Title: The Chronicles of Tanai's Hair
Post by Tanai on Jul 23rd, 2008 at 2:26pm
The Beginning

Alright so I've decided to start a journal, for the most part it will be about my hair, duh, not entirely sure how much other parts of my life will leak into here but we'll see.
So how about some hair background before I go bringing it all up to date.

I had medium length hair typically as kid until my mother cut it to a chin length bob when I was ten because she was sick and tired of all the knots. I had bangs too, until I was eleven and started growing them out for middle school. My hair stayed just past shoulder length from the time I grew it out until I hit fifteen, then I cut it to shoulder length, but quickly grew it back past my shoulders, as I was having trouble getting it to style into anything. When I was sixteen I got my hair done at a salon for the first time, I got it layered but left the length alone. I got my hair cut at salons three more times before I then began to decide to grow my hair long. After a misshap with a return to bangs early in my senior year I was content to simply let my hair grow out.

It probably all comes down from having some friends with waist length hair, it just looked so pretty and after awhile I decided I wanted it too. So I grew my hair out for a couple years. Then in one of my extra self deprecating days, no doubt due to the joys of PMS, I decided I looked like a little girl and ordered my mother to cut my hair to my shoulders. She did, which actually turned out to be a good thing because I hadn't cut my hair in a while, and was trimming only a quarter of an inch off every six months, so all the hair that was cut off was damaged anyways. So of course I think I liked the short hair for a few days then wanted to desperately grow it all back and then some again. I think the fear of looking like a little girl with the long hair stopped when I started looking more like a woman. So that was hah, only a year and a half ago, or something like that. So now I've decided to be a woman with long hair. I'm hoping it will give me an unfair advantage against other girls when it comes to guys.  ;D In this day and age where every 20 something is all starting to look the same: tall, thin, tan, bottle blonde, blindingly white teeth etc, you know the type. I like to believe that growing long healthy hair, daringly in my natural color, may actually turn more heads then those who are being to all resemble clones. We'll have to see won't we, seeing as my hair's not too incredibly long at the moment, and due to the heat I'm not wearing it down at all currently it's hard to gauge an impact.  :D

So that brings us up to speed. Currently I'm fighting humidity frizz. Cutting back to washing my hair once a week helped but the dryness and frizz has gotten bad lately due to the massive swings in humidity we've been having. Now when my hair's clean I have to use my spray leave in, oil it, and add my avocado butter for shine, and some days it's still dry! I miss the good old days of only last year where I all I did was wash and brush and my hair was ready to go. Suddenly it's taken on a high maintenance life of it's own. Sigh  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Wash Day

So after another week, today is wash day. And amusingly enough my ends are some how still dry and fly away when I comb through them. Even though there is several days worth of natural oils, added oil and spray on leave-in on them they still have the audacity to be dry!  ;D So before I wash today I'm going to try an oil treatment that someone else posted on here that is good for thick hair. It's 1/2 cup of olive or almond oil (I will be using sweet almond because it's cheaper). Comb it through dry hair, concentrating on ends, wrap it up in a towel for 15-30mins then wash and condition as normal. I will report back tomorrow to tell you how it worked, or didn't.  :-?

Weekend Style Part 1

Alright, tried the aforementioned oil treatment. Except I freaked out and worried that the sweet almond oil would be too heavy on my hair so I shampooed twice. My hair is softer except it has end to end frizzies which I managed to beat down with my typical routine. I have decided to try the oil again and this time NOT wash twice, we'll see next wash day. So today I was, I don't know why I sometimes want to, going to wear my hair in piggy braids. I tried it but for some reason I can't get past the impression that I look like a little girl or like a hillbilly so deciding a different route I instead braided the piggy braids at the back of my head then joined them together, part way down, into one braid. This solved the image issues. Not sure what I'll try tomorrow for church... I have such a hard time coming up with slightly fancier styles...  >:(

Oh, got to love clearance! Two very awesome button down shirts... $1 a piece! How happy am I  8-)

I love shopping clearance!!! That is the first place I head to when entering a store! My Mom doesn't understand how I find all the good buys and she gets nothing!

Weekend Style Part 2

livingandlovingx3 Oh yeah, same here, perhaps you mother has trouble finding things in her size? It goes both ways, I hate when my mom can find stuff and I can't, nothing worse then finding something fabulous, dirt cheap and in every size under the sun but yours.  >:( Oh well happy clearance sales!

Onto my hair. So today hair was still nice and soft but flyaway, that was easily controlled with my usual routine. I wonder if the fact that I've started to only brush my hair when I'm distributing oil that I've added or my own natural oils, making my routine down to brushing only once a day and not nearly as many strokes is having any impact on my hair and the softness factor? Or perhaps it's too early to tell seeing as I've only adopted this in the last week. Oh well we shall see. Well today I did one of my fast and simple styles a variation on the Edwardian braid. I simply flip the ponytail over topsy tail style and then add the braid. I added one of my favorite barrettes. I know that word typically has people cringing in fear for their hair but rest assured my hair is hardly every pulled out by any of my barrettes and if that misfortune occurs it's only one hair, so seeing as I don't wear them all that often I count my losses and continue to wear them.

I do a modified Edwardian style, too.  I do a 1/2 up section, flip the pony and then bun it, either as a ususal twisted one or braid.  Its so soft and feminine.  I hope you'll post a pic of your version!

Of couse you can wear barrettes!!  As long as you're careful and know what works for your hair type!

Less brushing will lead to more softness as you will be less abusive.  Too much brushing causes split/broken ends and that is not soft.

My mom never goes anywhere, unless I take her! I know about the size thing. There is either the really small or really large clothes left! My husband's dream, seeing as he is pretty small. I am talking a 28" waist!

Sakina Your variation sounds pretty I'll have to try it some time. I'd post pictures but I don't have a digital camera yet. As soon as I get one I'll probably make up for it by posting a bunch of pictures  ;)

livingandlovingx3 Yep exactly I hate that clothes where I'd have to either double myself to wear or cut myself in half to wear. I doubt you're husband has too much trouble finding clothes left over in his size, there aren't many men with that waist size, lucky.  ;)

I wish I was as lucky as him, I think if he had the boys instead of me  ;) he wouldn't be that size anymore either (his pants used to be too big for me) ;D.

livingandlovingx3  ;D You know if we had to rely on guys having the babies there would be no children being born lol. But yeah I hear having kids does that to you *has absolutely no idea personally* You're young you'll get back to it, mind you it won't be fun or easy, but it can be done. ;) Then you'll be the one buying the tiny sizes on the rack.  ;D

Hair Angst

This week my hair has been a royal pain. Normally after I wash it on Friday I only have to oil it Saturday and Sunday. This week I also had to oil Monday and Tuesday so now today my hair is greasy and dry at the same time.  :-? I will be looking for a new shampoo conditioner combo on Saturday but I totally know what to look at. I've been using natural shampoos and conditioners since '06, and my hair hasn't liked a single one of them. The last brand my hair liked was VO5, the moisture milks to be exact, I'm just reluctant to use the chemicals again. But then I get so frustrated about my hair that I'm almost willing to try anything and then there are now shampoos from Herbal Essence and  Pantene specifically targeted for long hair, and they make me curious... but then I think of the chemicals... oh I wish my hair wasn't so fickle!  >:( I also think my hair doesn't like the grape seed oil I've been using either... so I'll be changing that, with the oil I know what I want.  I think back to when my hair was last exceedingly soft and shiny I was using the VO5 moisture milks and I only ever combed my hair when it was wet... now I comb it everyday at least twice a day. Now does my hair hate to be combed or does it just hate my comb because the comb I have is pretty lousy?  :-/ I want my low maintenance hair back.  :'(

Wash Day

So today is wash day again, I oiled my hair again, but this time I'm using just the sweet almond oil, no conditioner on top, and I'm not wrapping it in a towel it's just kept up off my neck. Last time it felt like the towel had taken all the oil off of my hair and my hair never got to absorb any. Tomorrow I will be measuring my hair since it will be clean and I will also be hunting for, hopefully, a new shampoo and conditioner, because I don't think my hair likes the pair I have.

Title: Re: The Chronicles of Tanai's Hair

If you feel like your hair isn't absorbing the oil or conditioner, it may be time for a acv rinse or some type of clarifying.

Hair Nightmare

Sakina Thanks for the tip, that's what I had to resort to this morning... after the fact.  >:(

Alright so when my hair dried yesterday it must have had absolutely no idea what to do with the oil I had left on for an hour before I shampooed. My length was totally stringy and greasy and gross.  :P So this morning I did an acv rinse and then worked some shampoo through it before ending with a cold water rinse. As I type I am about to take my hair out to of the towel, and work a comb through it, hopefully the gunkiness is gone.

Ugh, oil can be so gross! I know all about the post-wash greasies, trust me.  :P
That's why I usually don't even bother with oil. Bleh!

Don't get me wrong, if it works for your hair, then great. But it's not for everyone.

On An Upswing

On a more positive note, the oil came out with the acv rinse. My hair is happily back to normal. It officially doesn't like sweet almond oil. I will stick to doing my Burt's Bees avocado butter all day intensive when my hair looks like it needs it *reminds self that self is running out of the aforementioned.* my hair likes that especially when I mix it with some conditioner, that really made my hair soft and shiny. My hair is soft though and was easily tamed with some of a avocado butter as my usual shine treatment. I wore it up, because it was humid and still too warm to wear down. I braided it pulled the braid up into a loop against the back of my head and used a jaw clip to secure the end of the loop. Simple and easy yeah finally hair is cooperating. I couldn't bring myself to purchase any of the chemical laden shampoos and conditioners so next week I will be getting Nature's Gate Persimmon and Rose Geranium shampoo and conditioner, it's supposed to moisturize, make her shiny, and help prevent breakage. I'm a skeptic but we'll see, it did smell really good though.  :)

Braids

So hair was dry like a haystack again, can't wait until I buy new shampoo and conditioner, next weekend, so just one more wash with my old stuff. I misted on my leave in as usual, then oiled it and added the avocado butter for shine, and it was a bit better but it still felt dry and it continued to fly away.  >:( Today, fancy hair day, I did I side part, pulled my hair all to one side then braided it accenting it with a barrette that's a row of hearts. Simple yet pretty I think. I still stink at braiding fancier braids, and I'm always so lazy to practice because I get tired of getting tired while doing it, the blood seems to run out of my arms and they get so tired. I can french braid, herringbone braid, twist braid, and dutch braid except my sections never show up well on the hair going into the braid and I can't keep my hair from parting on top even if I use hairspray. I use aloe gel when making my braids but it doesn't seem to do much, perhaps I'm not using enough. Maybe I'll convince myself to practice again today one more time... Oh and I can't seem to get the braids to start up by my crown, that's where I start them but some how by the time I get them finished the braid doesn't start there any longer...  :-/

Hair and Body

On the hair front yesterday I decided to wash my length with just my new conditioner then use my old shampoo on my scalp. My hair was a hell of a lot easier to comb through which will mean less breakage. *does a happy dance* It smelled amazing too, but when I went through it this morning it was a wee bit sticky, so I guess I'll stick to just washing once a week, and use the conditioner after I shampoo, that much my hair seems content with.

On the body front, started a new workout routine today. After a recent weight scare happy to report I'm back to maintaining the same weight as always. Maybe this time I'll be able to drop a couple more...  :-? but seeing as I've weighed the same thing since the beginning of '06 I'm not going to be surprised if the scale never moves down ever again.

Wash Day and Other Notes

So last night I tried sleeping with my braid in a sock. Didn't work much better then my usual braid does. Probably because I toss and turn so much at night, don't know if I'll bother with that anymore or not... Today I'll be washing and I don't think I'll do any oiling or anything before I wash it. Feeling lazy and since I've done it for a couple weeks in a row I'm even wondering if it may start making my hair too greasy. We'll see. Also started doing scalp massage last night. I will be getting some jojoba oil to massage into my scalp from time to time perhaps it will convince my hair to start growing again.

New Products

Today I just wore my hair in a braid nothing special, so I shall gloss over that. My hair seems to be liking the leave in I made with the new conditioner I got, it feels slightly softer and tends to be easier to comb. I can't wait to try the shampoo and conditioner on my next wash day! I think I may have actually found natural products that work! Oh and also picked up some jojoba for using during a scalp massage.

Weekend Style

Just a quick mention of what I did with my hair today. My hair was finally under control for the most part today so I got to wear it only half up because it was finally cool enough to. So I just clipped it back with my silver butterfly barrette. Tis it.  :)

Braid Practice

So I tried a herringbone braid, it slipped down as usual and looked too loose. Then I tried a french braid. The sections came out better but the end braid came out as a dutch braid instead of a french braid.  :-? I still get confused. Well either way they still need work if I can ever get them to look good enough maybe I'll actually be able to wear them out. Still seems like a long way away from that point though. :-[

I have never attempted to braid my own hair, even when I could have. I had cousins that always braided my hair when I was really little. Now I can braid anyone elses hair without a problem!

I've been braiding my hair, english braid, for around 10 years now. I'm fantastic at that and pretty good at most hairstyles but the more complex braids are giving me some trouble.

Shower Drama

So I've finally skivved (sp?) myself out enough from only washing my hair once a week that I plan on go back to twice a week if my hair will let me. So I did a clarify routine seeing as I felt so grossed out, my hair had been looking particularly greasy. Hmm must be the jojoba oil I used with the scalp massage.  :-? So I washed it with some of my mom's Biotin shampoo, I don't have any clarifying shampoo and we have so much left around the house so I decided to try it. Either the shampoo's terrible or my hair was so gunky because it did not foam up at all. I rinsed that out in cool water, then did an acv rinse, rinsed that out with cool water, then shampooed with my new shampoo. Well the stupid bottle said use a generous amount and I did. I had a bit of a problem trying to get it to wash out. The should seriously tell you exactly how much "generous amount" is too generic.  >:( Then I applied the matching conditioner then put my hair up and finished my shower. I skipped my leave-in as I want to see how the clarifying and new products worked.

So I went to grab a new Venus disposable razor from the closet because I threw the other one out last week. I grabbed it from the package and noticed that there was no plastic cover over the razor head.  :-? I looked in the packaging, it was a set of three, to see if it got stuck in there, nope. When I looked more closely at the razor it had gunk in the blades and black stuff on the head.  :o WTF! I think I had a used razor!  :o EWWWW!!! GAH I was so grossed out! I got stuck having to use one of the junky ones my mom buys.  >:( I am so never buying disposiable razors ever again. That was just too nasty for words.

On a cleaner note, rumor has it I will be getting to go clearance shopping tomorrow. *does happy dance*  ;D Wish me luck!  8-)

Shopping

Angel Spun Yep I took the last one out of the package and that's what it looked like. *shudders*
My hair came out pretty good today. The very ends were a bit dry so I oiled them with my grape seed oil after I sprayed on my leave in. I think that may be because I'm getting close to needing a trim. It looked shinier overall though, and was certainly easier to comb out, so we shall see how this goes.  ;) I wore my hair in a double flipped ponytail and was pleased to see that despite being twisted over twice the ponytail still was BSL length! Perhaps my hair is growing afterall.  ;D

Didn't find a lot of good buys today, just a few. A green t-shirt for $1.80, a green hoodie for $4.80, a leather purse for $7.20, and the best, fall-weight Tommy Hilfiger pajamas, originally $74 for $10!  ;D Not a lot but still great deals nonetheless.

Me And My "Issues"

So didn't do anything overtly fancy with my hair today just a braid with a pretty barrette. Hair has been nice and soft and more manageable then it has been in awhile. Today became a low self esteem day. I heard more then one person snicker as I walked by. Now sometimes I don't give it a second thought. But today my typical low self esteem surfaced and I wondered if it were about me. Now granted I know very well I could be totally wrong. And I know for a fact that if I was more confident and had better self esteem I wouldn't give a rat's patoot about anyone's opinion anyways. But I'm not so from time to time things like that trigger those thoughts in my head. And they tend to snowball because then I start questioning, and second guessing myself and then I start to feel more miserable.  :-[ *sigh* Sometimes I could just kick myself in the pants for this sh*t, but I don't know how to lick it.  :-/

Aww, Tanai. They probably weren't snickering at you. And even if they were, they were probably just being immature little gossips. How sad that they have nothing better to do with their lives, eh? Their prob, not yours.

But really now, you're the same gal who unnerves guys with your hotness. Why would anyone have cause to snicker? Just work it, hunnay. Walk by like you mean it! ;)

L&Lx3Sometimes I think the same thing. That's why I was never particularly fond of having girls as friends, though mind you I had several. Just hard to find "uncatty" enough girls to be around. *rolls eyes*

True but these guys tend to be teenagers and the quality of the likes of which I wouldn't consider saving the human race with, so an average looking woman could startle them like a wildebeest.  ;D Although... there was one guy a couple years ago, he was quite a cutey and when he got flustered he turned like seven shades of red, and it was so cute, I loved being able to do that to him. Too bad he up and disappeared on me after I purposely checked out with him every week for 2-3 straight months! (Checkout guy? Yes I know but I was 19 and he was pretty freaking cute and definitely had the most brain cells of any one to work a checkout in history) Hello a blind person could tell what I was up to! I never went back after he was a no show for a month. *sigh* Twas a bit of a bummer. But again I thank you for your supportive words, I don't have much of a self esteem boosting entourage at the moment, and if the fact that all my friends ditched me after high school is any inclination I probably never had much of one in the first place.  :-/ But I shall try to keep your "words of wisdom" in mind.  ;)

Title: Re: The Chronicles of Tanai's Hair
Post by Tanai on Aug 20th, 2008 at 1:59pm
So where to begin...

I did the BB avocado butter, mixed with an equal dollop of my conditioner, all day before I washed yesterday. My hair is really soft and shinier though still dry, I think it's due to the drop in humidity. I sprayed some leave in on it and then oiled the ends it's better now. I just love how soft the BBAB (burt's bee's avocado butter) makes my hair after I use it.  :) My tips are being to act strange, good thing I'm trimming in two weeks.  ;)

So those thoughts of cutting my hair etc turned into a total practicality issue. I do have all the time in the world to take care of it now but once I get my horse and the ball starts rolling I'm wondering if I'll have the time.  :-/ I know styling time isn't an issue with length seeing as it's easier to style, seemingly, the longer it gets. I'm worrying more about the time it takes to take care of it. I will be spending every day at the barn, then there's lessons, and I want to learn to train, and competitions, and I want to learn about breeding... so I wondered if I was going to have time to take care of my hair when my life gets to be this busy. I figured probably no. I won't have time to "coddle" my hair and take 10+ minutes to brush and comb it. Or to worry incessantly whether it's being damaged or not.  :P Sometimes it feels like I'm babysitting it. I don't think I ever thought I would put this much effort into my hair.  :o Me, someone who wants to stay relatively low maintenance. What sparked this I wonder.  :-? Now if I had a cushy job, such as my writing, I wouldn't be giving this a second thought. But seeing as my writing won't bring me in enough money, inspiration strikes me so infrequently I'd starve between novels, I can't make a career out of it. I was thinking make the descision now before my hair, possibly, gets longer and I get even more attached to it, just the same I can't bring myself to cut it. I'm so darn indecisive, about everything, except where guys are concerned  ;), I'll probably never make a descision. Two years from now I'll probably still be mulling this over. http://smilieshq.com/smilies/rolleye0004.gif And the more annoying thing is that every time I cut my hair, even if it was only BSL to shoulder length I always hated it and couldn't wait for it to grow back. So my answer to that was to grow it longer...

*sigh* Practicality stinks.  >:( But I still don't see how waist-hip length hair could be easy to care for...  :'(

Have you ever had horses before, Tanai?
If not, I'll warn you - they're a ton of work and extremely expensive. You most certainly won't have the time or money to spend on your hair that you have now. Not saying that you can't balance the two...it's just difficult.

Also, shows are not at all kind to your hair. You have to use ungodly amounts of hairspray and bobby pins and your hair must be worn in a show snood, which attaches with a French style metal barrette. You also have to wear hats. It's a lot of damage, kiddo.  :-/

If you're really into it, though, the health your hair will be a necessary sacrifice. And you will need to stay low maintenance because horses definitely aren't!  :o

I can't speak to the issues around hair care when doing horse shows, but I can address an "active" life with long hair.  My classic length hair is actually EASIER to deal with than shoulder length hair.  I commute to work on my bicycle most every day.  This requires wearing a bike helmet, containing my hair while biking, looking decent for work (thank goodness I work in a casual environment), and a shower every day.

A braid is a great way to contain and protect the hair when active.  I wear a light weight scull cap under my helmet to protect my scalp hair from the helmet itself.  Wear my hair in a bun or braid for work and rebraid to ride home.   I rinse and condition every day I bike and shampoo once or twice a week.

I keep my hair routine simple and it works great with my lifestyle.  If you really want long hair - you can do it with most any situation.

If not, I'll warn you - they're a ton of work and extremely expensive.

No I've never had one, but I'm totally aware of the expense and time commitment I've being reading up on the care of horses since I was 5.

Quote:
Also, shows are not at all kind to your hair. You have to use ungodly amounts of hairspray and bobby pins and your hair must be worn in a show snood, which attaches with a French style metal barrette. You also have to wear hats. It's a lot of damage, kiddo.  undecided

Well I don't know about hairspray... I can manage to make my hair do almost anything without hairspray. I already where French style barrettes from time to time, I'm probably lucky my hair is coarse because they don't seem to damage them, or if they do it's kept to a minimum, it would only be 6-7 shows a year anyways. And I never considered hats to be damaging.  :-? I always thought they were a good thing.  :-? Oh, and you're not confusing hats with helmets are you?  :-? Because I won't be wearing a helmet, a derby yes helmet no.  ::)

If you're really into it, though...
I suppose making it one's life/career would qualify as being really into it.  ;) ;D LOL I swear it's in my veins, I also swear that my mothers family was descended from Cossaks, it would explain my natural affinity with horses.  ;) But how I've made it this far without one still baffles me, it literally feels like a piece of me is missing. I just hope I continue to get closer to filling the void.  :'( Patience was a virtue I elected to skip.  ;)

BB: Thanks for your post about an "active" lifestyle. Since I can't seem to bring myself to cut my hair, and they fact that styling is exceedingly easier with long hair I figure the best way for me to make a decision in this matter would be to let me hair grow, like I hope it will, and see how much of an interference, if any, it becomes. If I find it too hard to care for, I can always cut it. God forbid.  ;) But I may actually find out that I can juggle the two. Speculating is never the same as living so I will have to wait and see.

Sweetheart, at nearly 30 years of age, I should hope I would know the difference between hats and helmets.  ;D
When you show horses, you wear hats and yes, they are damaging to hair. They're a very snug fit and you have to bobby pin them into place. Judges will dock you if your hat flies off. You also may end up changing hats a few times depending on how many different classes that you enter in a single show. You'll also be getting ready in a hurry.

And yes, you have to use hairspray. Judges will dock you if you have any flyaways.

My family has kept and shown horses for 16 years, so I know of what I speak. And for someone who has never done so before, it might seem a bit overwhelming.

Not trying to dissuade you in any way. Just waving a few little red flags so you'll know what you'll be up against.  ;)

I was just wondering if you were referring to helmet instead of hat damage seeing as some disciplines require a helmet and others don't. I prefer the latter.  ;)

I never considered a satin lining damaging,  :-? perhaps it's best to consider it less damaging then say velcro.  :D

I don't have too many flyaway issues just with my length which would be in the snood but natural hairsprays aren't that nasty, even though I've used the other kind, I just hate the crunchies.  :P

Hey no problem, I'm always looking for an "in-route"  ;) all I can say is how on Earth did you not get swept up into this if you're family's being doing it for 16 years? I wish I could say I came from a family like that. I'm going to be the first. It's at times daunting, terrifying, exhilarating and a source of pride, especially considering I could become the only member of the family, probably since forever, who actually accomplishes something of note.  :)

Apples....mmm hmm.  ;)

It's not the lining of the hat that damages your hair (although western and English hats do have bands on the inside that cause friction. It's all of the pins that you need to secure them, the act of taking them off and putting them on and the aforementioned friction. Not healthy.
And I haven't tried natural hairspray, so I don't know how it would hold up in a horse show, but I do know that you need to use tons of it. My sister used giant cans of Aqua Net...talk about starchy! lol
Judges aren't just looking at the performance of your horse, hon. They look at everything from your posture to your horse's posture to how you hold your feet in the stirrups to your appearance, your horse's appearance - everything. And it's a well-known joke that judges notice everything that you don't want them to and completely ignore you when you're doing well. It gets pretty corrupt sometimes...so be ready for that. An experienced trainer will be able to explain all of this to you in time.

How did I not get swept up in it? Easy! I looked at what the rest of my family was doing and said, "no thanks!"  ;D
Actually, it's kind of funny. I was the first person in my immediate family to take an interest in horses. I spent hours reading books about horses, drawing horses, writing stories about horses, you name it. Any opportunity I had to even get close to a horse, I'd take it. Even rode once in awhile when I was very small. I loved thoroughbreds especially and wanted to be a jockey when I was a kid.  ;D
But all the pleading to my parents to have a horse of my own fell upon deaf ears.

Years later, when my sister reached about the same age, she also took an interest. And when she expressed this to my parents, they bought her one. She began training immediately and, before long, started showing. Then, my parents bought her another horse. And then another. Each of them had their own unique talents and showed in different styles and different classes. English, Western, Equitation, Barrel Racing - my sis and her 3 horses did it all and I'm pretty sure that she made state champion in 2(?) states. She and my parents - and the other ladies from our ranch - travelled a lot.

These days, she no longer shows and we have only 2 of our 3 horses left (our first had to be put down in '06). The show ribbons that she won completely cover one wall of her bedroom and sit there...with her trophies...collecting dust, but serving as colorful reminders of what she used to get up to.
She's now a nursing student with a bf and a part-time job, so you can guess that she doesn't have as much time for the horses as she used to. My parents have had to pick up the slack...but even that isn't enough. They have jobs too...

So where did all of this leave me? Distant, but not entirely removed from it. When my sister was doing local shows, I would come out and help get her and the horses ready. Doing makeup, banding manes, whatever. I also served as a good luck charm because my sister always took first in all of her classes when I was there.
But I also showed up at the ranch on occasion to help out where needed...washing, riding, walking, braiding tails, doling out medicine, grooming, picking hooves...whatever needed done. And I still do, if asked. But having watched everything that my family went through with them...the dirt, the sun, the travelling, the hurry up & wait...oh, and the skin cancer (both of my parents have it now)...I can honestly say that it's not my thing. And for as much as I resented my parents for ignoring my wants, I'm actually grateful for it now.

So yeah...old wounds, whatever.  ;D

I know that.  ;) It's just sometimes the emphasis they put on my presentation amuses me. It's like who cares whether my hair's shellacked down or not as long as the horse does what it's supposed to. Unfortunately I know this is not the case. Oh well.  ::) I'm lucky there's a top farm right in my backyard, so to speak, and I'll be able to learn from people who are already on top of the game.  :)

I'm still sorry that you personally never got to give it a shot. Of course it's not for everyone and in your own way you got to experience through helping your sister. Still one should still have the opportunity to live out there dreams no matter how short lived they may end up being. I think every little girl gets into horses at some point and those that claimed they didn't are just lying.  ;) ;D But I digress I always say the only real way to find out whether something is really right for you or not is to go out and do it. You did, and it didn't work out, totally understandable, me still getting there.  :) I'm still jealous that at least you got to experience it.  >:(  ;) I'll get there though, and then I'll find out for myself whether I'm, and my hair, are up to the challenge.  ;)

Yes well Northern sun is not nearly as strong as southern sun. There are only two shows I would attend  South Carolina. Don't worry I'll use tons of sunblock and try to hide under any cover as much as I can. I'm not sure how much sun damage one can get through a wool coat but I digress. All I can say is thank God for the indoor ring.  ;D

Hair Updates

I wet my length a bit and put some jojoba oil in for an hour before I washed yesterday, plus on my scalp during a scalp massage. It washed out nicely I am happy to report. And my hair seems to be liking my new shampoo and conditioner as it has become very soft. The ends are a bit scary but I'll be trimming them in the beginning of September. I just wore my hair twisted up and secured under a jaw clip. Trying to hide my bushy ends.  :P Is it September yet.  ;D

Hair Observations

My length was dry again today. I oiled with my grape seed oil, which isn't heavy enough but I must finish it up before I can buy a different oil. I hate low humidity.  :P So ends seem to keep getting scarier.  :P Hang in there, only 9 more days till a trim. So for church today I put my hair in a braid coiled the braid up and fastened it to my hair with a big barrette that I took one of the inner parts out to make bigger for my thick braid. I pinned the tail under the loop and it worked. Surprised me.  :-?

I saw a woman in church today with a lovely shade of steel/smoke silver hair. She had her straight hair pinned up in a top knot with a snood over the bun. I figured her hair's probably shoulder length to BSL based off the size of the bun. It was nice to see an older woman without the ridiculously short curly hair that older women seemed destined to get when they reach that age. I wouldn't mind going gray if I could go a nice silver color like that. I still don't know who I'm going to take after since my hair doesn't resemble anyone's in my immediate family. So glad I'm not taking after my mother though, she started going gray younger then I am now.  :o Maybe when I'm 60, I'm not ready for that now though.  >:(

You may need to try a vinegar rinse to get your ends to stop being so dry.  Even if they are damaged, a rinse could make them softer and therefore less bushy.  Are you using products with cones in them?  Cones will make my hair dry and like straw.

Tamed Ends

So apparently my spooky ends were being caused by inadequate amount of leave in. I'd been running low since Friday and finally was forced to make a new batch yesterday. After spraying them a third time last night I finally found them behaving.  :) I put some grape seed oil on just the very ends today. Glad to see that problem's solved.

Sakina: Thanks for the tip, next time I have bushy ends, and it ain't a lack of leave in I'll know what to try!  :) Oh and no I don't use cones I can't stand synthetic ingredients any more.  :P

Hair (Almost) Contentment

My hair seems to be digging the new shampoo and conditioner and the new pre-shower oil treatment. My leave in oil's still too light so I had flyaways while brushing it through.  :P I hope to be able to get a new oil soon once I use this stuff up, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. But yeah, my hair has felt this soft or slippery in awhile. I've missed it feeling like this.  ;D Also need to get a new comb.  :P Scary breakage sounds make me nauseous http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/sick0001.gif and that's after I sanded the seams down twice.  >:( So hopefully next month at some point I won't need something else and will be able to buy a new one.  :-/

Styling

So on Thursday, I tried my first bun using the NSEW method I read on here. My normally annoying hair stayed all day, without a ponytail holder, and only four pins!  :o I was shocked, normally I have to first anchor my bun with a ponytail holder and then insert 15-25 bun pins only to have it fall out in the end.  >:( And these are pretty flimsy bun pins so I was really surprised that they worked. Well at least I know how to make my hair stay in a bun now.  8-)

Yesterday I did my usual pre-shower oil treatment. Hair continues to come out softer after each wash. Today I just wore it in a high ponytail. The increased humidity makes my ponytails really full.  :) Leave ins were spray on mix, grape seed oil on length and a dusting of BBAB for shine.

We're supposed to be going into a heatwave.  :P We didn't even hit 90 in August so now were going to hit it a bunch of times in September?  :-? I think our weather's confused.  ::)

Measuring Time!

So yesterday, I washed and did the jojoba pre shampoo thing again. Hair has been excessively dry lately due to the complete lack of humidity we've been having.  :P This is not boding well for winter.  >:( I'm thinking of trying the CWC technique on Friday to see if the extra conditioner could make any difference.

Today was measure and trim day! I'm so happy my hair has finally decided to start growing again and is still maintaining the 1in. a month growth rate thanks to the Biotin.  ;) So my pre trim measurement was 27" and my post trim measurement is 26" if my hair continues in this growing pattern I could be looking at waist length by the New Year!  ;D http://smilieshq.com/smilies/party0039.gif

;D My hair hates too low of humidity and too high of humidity.  :P I think it only likes that perfect 50% humidity which probably occurs a grand total of...oh I don't know... 5 days out of the year.  ::) It seriously needs to learn to cope.  ;D

Wash Day

So today's wash day. My hair was surprisingly looking dry even though I had oiled it for the past two days and the humidity has been higher. So I oiled it again today, even though I'll be doing my pre-shampoo routine. Bleck it got greasy.  :P I guess it was more frizzy then dry. Except I think my hair may have absorbed all the oil by now. So not a total problem.

Well I'll be picking up something hair related tomorrow, I just haven't decided exactly what seeing as I seem to need a million things simultaneously but alas only have money for one at at time. >:( :P

Tomorrow we'll be feeling the effects of Hanna as it moves up the coast. We are so overdue for some windy and rainy weather. I'm actually excited.  :) It's been dry like a desert out here lately. I honestly can't remember the last time it rained. It's great I'll actually be going out shopping in it.  ;D Don't worry folks by time it gets up to where I live it'll be just like a Nor'easter, just some heavy wind and rain, nothing overly dramatic. I've been in a weakening CAT 2 before ($#!t! I had school during the d@mn thing! :o) so this will be nothing, just some positively "rotten" weather.  ;D I love this sort of stuff!

I'm lucky where I live- we don't get hurricanes, blizzards tornados or anything like that.  But we get earthquakes.  I guess it's a trade off between all of them. ;D  The thing about earthquakes is that they don't happen for a long time and then come back in full force.  As opposed to the others where they have a set season and you can expect them.

We had an earthquake here once. A 3.5 small by West Coast standards but when you've never been in one before it's still quite an experience. I think I stick to the hurricanes and blizzards but I'd like to leave the tornadoes out of the picture. *eep*  :o http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0008.gif

So yesterday I decided to add conditioner to my usual pre shampoo jojoba oil. When I rinsed it out in the shower I noticed it made my hair feel exceedingly soft when wet. And I didn't need oil today, my hair wasn't dry it was just frizzy because it's like 1000% humidity out there.  :P Didn't do a CWC hair didn't need it seeing as the humidity increased as of late.

Yesterday I fell down a few of the stairs into the living room.  :-[ :P Bleah, I hurt all over and a "nice" rug burn on my one arm. Today, other then the healing rug burn, I'm fine. I just hate doing that sort of thing. But I suppose it's better to fall on one's bum, as long as you've got a cushy one. ;) ;D

My shower wasn't totally fantastic yesterday the hot water smelled of onions again.  http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/sick0025.gif
Yuck it always seems to do that only when I'm in the shower.  >:( So my shower was cooler then I would've liked. I've been washing my hair with lukewarm water so that was fine but the rest of the time was a little more brisk then I would've cared for. :P

The tropical storm's been hitting today. Heavy rain and wind.  ;D The humidity is so disgusting though, a sauna is probably drier.  :D So aside from the humidity my kind of weather.  ;D ;)  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

Today I bought some shower caps for deep treatments and to get my hair out of the way while I shower, so the conditioner can sink in. And a bottle of the anti breakage serum I wanted.  8-) All will be getting a test drive on Tuesday.

Money's tight as usual. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/ashamed0005.gifI so hate living with my parents.  :P I don't even bother looking for a job because there's no one hiring.  >:( So I'm forced to "mooch" of my parents.  ::) I hope my haircare won't have to suffer.  :P >:( Oh well increased financial pressure may be just the thing to get my parents to sell our house so we can move. *nods* One can only hope. There's been talk of moving since I was in high school. So I'm not going to hold my breath, but part of me would like to hope that this will finally be the time we can move out and make a new start!   :) Especially me! 8-)

Playing Catchup

So I have some catching up to do. Sunday I wore my hair in a topknot that surprisingly stayed with only four pins again!  :o I haven't had to dry oil my hair since before I last washed it on Friday. Really weird, not sure if hair is healthier now and no longer needs it or air has been more humid so it didn't need it? http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/confused0007.gif
Wash day was again yesterday. Did my oil pre-shampoo treatment sans conditioner and wore it under a shower cap for an hour. I like using those especially in the shower while my conditioner works in.  8-) Used my new anti-breakage serum for the first time. It goes in really well luckily the fragrant smell of coconut gets easily overpowered by the scent of my shampoo and conditioner. I hate the smell of coconut.  :P So yeah hair didn't need to be oiled again today. However it is continually getting harder to comb out in the morning.  :P I think it's time to try to track down a satin pillowcase. 'Bout it I suppose.

Is It Actually Dry?

I oiled my hair today. Not even sure it needed it. It's been very difficult for me to discern as of late whether or not my hair is actually dry and needs to be oiled. My hair looks and feel very dry before I comb it. But after I spray on my leave in conditioner and comb it neat it no longer looks or feels supremely dry, it feels the tiniest bit dry... :-/ Not sure if it's dryness or frizz. My hair should be cut-and-dry either it's dry and needs to be oiled or it's fine and doesn't I don't care for supposed dryness.  >:(

Weather has taken a wonderful fall like turn for the past couple of days after we had some exceedingly gusty thunderstorms Tuesday morning. Now it's cloudy and cool, the air smells like fall and I'm waiting impatiently for it to get cool enough to wear my boots, of which I have three pairs.  ;D Because I've been officially sick of sandals for the past couple of weeks. Well maybe it'll be cool enough for flats this weekend. Still no socks but not as bare as sandals. *crosses fingers*

LMFAO! Ha, I keep trying to exchange it for something I want but can't get a hold of anyone at customer service.  ;D :D

The weather is what I would consider perfect today. It's cool in the mid 60's, and there's a wonderful steady rain coming down. So of course I went walking around in it taking it all in from under my umbrella. Ten degrees cooler and it would be absolutely raw and even more perfect.  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif] I'm nuts I know.  ;D But of course tomorrow is supposed to be warm and very humid with a chance of showers.  :P And Sunday it's supposed to be close to 90.  >:( :P *sigh* I'll get to wear my boots someday.

So today is wash day and I did my pre shampoo jojoba oil leave in, added the conditioner this time. And it's under a shower cap as I type. I figure I haven't oiled much lately so it could probably use the help. I have no f'ing clue what I'll do with my hair in all the humidity.  :P I'm running out of ideas as is.  :-/ Oh well at least I get to look at some new flats tomorrow.  8-)

Strangely enough, it's been cloudy & cool all day today here. No rain, sadly. But perhaps we're sharing the effects of the same storm?

Not unless there's a storm out there 3,000 miles wide.  ;D  :o I'm on the East Coast. So my weather could be your coast's weather leftovers from like last week.  ;D

So my hair came out nice and soft. I think it really likes it when I add the conditioner to my pre shampoo oil treatment so I suppose I will stick to doing that each time. I'm going to be needing some more BBAB. It's getting hard to squeeze out of the tube to use a shine enhancer so an intensive is completely out of the question.  :P Today I wanted to do a pony bun but my hair just did not want to form any kind of coil.  >:( So I made three twists, one from each side and one from the back, and joined them together leaving the rest in a ponytail. Not sure about tomorrow.  :-/ If I don't have trouble coming up with ideas I have trouble getting my hair to cooperate with the ideas that I have come up with.  :P >:(

Couldn't find the flats that were advertised. Did see a cute gray suede pair with a buckle on them but alas their idea of a sale was my idea of full price, perhaps a steeper discount will be issued later this season.  :-? I always hate walking away from something cute, especially when it's in my size.  :'(

Well maybe then.  ;) Today it's so hot, humid, and downright disgusting.  :P It feels like July out there.  :P I'm looking forward to the forecasted cool down later this week.
However my hair has been holding up surprisingly well in spite of the humidity. It's just a bit frizzy but is still overall soft, smooth, and manageable.

Today I wore my hair in a double flipped ponytail which greatly resembles an Edwardian. And I accented it by placing one of my sterling silver combs in the middle of the two rolls. That's about it for today. I shall try my best to beat this unseasonable heat.  :P

:D  That hairstyle sounds really pretty! I can never get the Edwardian to work, so I might have to try that.

I play around with it too. I sometimes just do the low single flip ponytail or I'll flip it twice. I accent it with combs, barrettes, could probably even use hair sticks. I sometimes braid the tail as well. Lots of options, and I find it easier to do that way then actually following the Edwardian instructions.  :)

Oh my gawd, Tanai, we are so peas in a pod.  ;D  I often wear my hair in a flipped pony, sometimes with the tail braided. Yesterday, I did the double flipped pony with the tail braided. lol Man, this is just getting creepy.  ;)

Wash Day

Oh my gawd, Tanai, we are so peas in a pod.  ;D lol Man, this is just getting creepy.  ;)

Maybe we're longhair sisters from another mother.  ;D ;)

So today was wash day and I tried a SMT. Aside from the fact that water kept leaking out from under the shower cap. And that my whole shower effort took f'ing forever. It was alright. I suppose my hair's about as soft as it will ever get, because it's felt this soft with just the pre shampoo oil and conditioner treatments. So perhaps not worth the hassle. :-/ Oh well live and learn right.  ::) At least the weather's spectacular.  8-) Finally fall like  :) now how about some rain?  ;D

Finally

It finally happened the weather was actually cool enough so I could where my hair totally down!  ;D I haven't done that in ages. And I can honestly say my hair looks so much better then it did when I last wore it completely down. It's so soft and shiny and happy.  :D

So yesterday did the usual pre shampoo treatment of jojoba and conditioner. Leave ins for the weekend are the usual anti breakage serum (ABS not to be confused with anti-lock braking system. lol  :D) on wet hair, then next morning leave in conditioner spray, oil on bottom of length, and BBAB for shine.  8-) Debating adding honey either to that or to my regular conditioner.  :-/ Considering trying my first CWC Tuesday seeing as we will be well into a cool/dry pattern. I decided against it yesterday just in case my hair did turn out greasy I wouldn't have been able to wear it down today. So next time, if I remember.  ;D

The rose water I ordered came in, but I don't need to mix up a new leave in yet so it will have to wait. I've ordered a new tube of BBAB because I don't have enough for any treatments with it and I would like to try mixing it in with the oil and conditioner that I do before I shampoo. And the new oil blend I've had my eye on now that my grape seed oil is finally running low. Hopefully my hair will like this.  ::)

I don't know what got into me but I decided to paint my fingernails yesterday. Normally I only do my toes, which happen to be painted a silver with pink tint, but I decided I wanted to do my fingernails as well. So I painted them a very seasonal Port wine color. I actually managed not to smudge them before they dried and they have yet to chip! The two reasons I normally don't bother with them. So, so far so good!  :)

Warmer weather today means hair was up so I coiled it up and secured it with a large jaw clip and accented the hair around it with a couple of crystal bobby pins. Hair also didn't need oil today, which is good because I don't want to run out before my new bottle comes in. 's'bout it.

"Practice" Time etc.

So yesterday I gave myself a spur of the moment scalp massage, because I felt like it. Strangely enough.  :-? I mean I do them twice a week anyways but eh it felt good either way.  8-) Today I seem to be practicing my Dutch/French braids. I tried to do a French braid this morning but it came out as a rather good attempt at a Dutch braid.  :-? Well since I know what I did to get the one I should be able to reverse it to get the other. *snort*  ::) Well I'll try again this afternoon. Just a small update, aren't they always... d@mn I could use a life now... I hate waiting for things.  :P

I Can Braid!

So yesterday I managed to create a Dutch braid actually good enough to be worn in public!  :o ;D On my first try nonetheless. And today I created a similar quality French braid also on the first try!  :o I can't count the number of failed attempts I've made at either hairstyle. But somehow I've managed to master them both on the first try! Maybe I was bit by a radioactive braiding spider the other night or something.  lol ;D But either way I can officially add both the Dutch and French braids to my hairstyling repertoire.  :)

Right. Anyway, congrats on mastering both the French and the Dutch braids at once! And revel in the fact that you're so kicking my butt because I can't do either one.  ;D  Well, I can French braid other people's hair. Doesn't help me much though.  ;D

LOL ;D Thank you. And it's pronounced Teh-NEYE.

Nothing much to report on the hair front. Yesterday was the usual oil/conditioner pre shampoo. Had too much oil on my head from unrinsed scalp massages.  :P And my scalp hurt yesterday as well.  :P Just used the ABS and didn't bother with oil or leave in today, hair didn't seem to need it and I don't really want to add too much stuff to my hair because I will be venturing out without it being washed on Friday but my hair braids better slightly dirty, too many products would just make it too dirty.  :P

Hair Oddities and Fabulous Weather

Quote:

Well what I meant was the first try of the day. It normally would take several tries just for me to even figure out if I was following the directions properly, and in the end it would still look nothing like it was supposed to. However these two attempts I didn't even consult the instructions, and hadn't attempted either braid in at least a month but just developed the process in my head, tried it, it worked, then reversed it the next day and got the other braid.  8-)

So I mentioned yesterday that I didn't use any other leave ins except the ABS on my wet hair. Well no leave ins again today, last night I just brushed it with a BBB to distribute the natural oils so I wouldn't get greasy roots. Last night and today I've noticed that my hair is softer then it usually is after using the leave ins.  :o :-? Don't really know what to think about that.

A Nor'easter's coming!  ;D *does a happy dance* Bringing wind, rain, and cool temps our way as early as late this afternoon and all day tomorrow, so I'll be out in it.  8-) *giggles wildly* this was so what I was talking about the last time. Windier, rainer, and no humidity, with temps in the low 60's. I have a feeling only Angel understands the allure of such weather.  ;)

lmao!  ;D

So the rain was a bit of a bust.  :P No strong winds, driving rain, not overly cool.  >:( However we did have a nice blowing mist/light rain from time to time, so not a total loss.  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

So today I sprayed on leave in, and added grapeseed oil and BBAB. My hair was just greasy enough to look clean still but easier to braid.  8-) So I did a French braid today, a good hairstyle for windy wet weather. Of course my order of new oil arrived after I had already done my hair.  >:( Ah well maybe tomorrow.

So I washed when I got home. Did jojoba/BBAB/conditioner for an hour. I wonder if the BBAB will do anything in an hour?  :-? It used to take a whole day to make it work before but maybe now under the shower cap?  :-/ Hey, I wonder if I'll be able to tell.  ;D Did ABS on wet hair, waiting for it to dry as I speak, or type, whatever.  ::)

So decent rain today.  8-)  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif] Too humid though.  :P Hair had the frizzies today and yesterday.  :P I tried BBAB doesn't do a thing for frizzies and neither does rose water.  >:( Next year will probably need to look into some actual anti-frizz stuff. However adding BBAB to my pre shampoo treatment does make a difference.  8-) Hair feels like what I believe Angel termed "liquid gold"  8-) good stuff! Oh and hair likes new oil, yeah!  :)

Wash Day and Hair Decisions

So yesterday was wash day, did a scalp massage with Jojoba, then my pre shampoo routine of jojoba, conditioner, and BBAB under a shower cap. Leave yesterday was ABS and when dry this morning oil. Hair really likes pre shampoo treatment, ABS, oil, BBAB for shine, shampoo and conditioner. Hair does not like leave in conditioner mix, or rosewater.  :P So much for those ideas.  ::) Finally glad to be rid of the humidity though, unfortunately 60°'s temps+dry air=flyaways.  :P Oil seems to be taming it for now.

What A Day

So today we had to take my dog, who's a BlkLR btw, to the vet for his first round of 3yr shots. He's the biggest chicken going.  ::) He freaked out when the car started moving, he freaked out at the vets, he freaked out going back in the car.  ::) *sigh* We also found out he's a lot heavier then we thought. I figured he's around 65# turns out he's 84#.  :o Oh my goodness! He's certainly looks like he's going to be the biggest dog I"ve ever had seeing as he's only 1 and some months. My mom had a 150l# GSD so he'll be second biggest for her and my dad. So that was an exhausting morning.

Also measured this morning only a half inch of growth.  :-? *sigh* oh well at least it is growing. So yesterday was wash day as always JO/BBAB/conditioner pre shampoo, ABS, oil, and BBAB this morning. Wore hair down with the very front parts brushed back and pinned back with a pair of tortoiseshell barrettes. Bought some more JO today as well.

Pleased to say I topped off my afternoon with a pumpkin muffin. Which was really good. Tomorrow looks to be less tiring.  ;D

The neighbor across the street's got a Trans Am and he's like playing with the friggen car alarm.  >:( It's one of those older ones that makes all the different siren noises.  ::) Guys are so stupid.  ::) Sounds like the kind of car that someone would try to break into in an inner city neighborhood.  ;D

Playing Catchup

That's what happens when I forget to post, I have to play catchup.  ::) So Monday night, I go down into the the laundry room area and I look down at the wall across from the stairs and there's a huge spider on the wall. I freak and as I run back up the stairs I spot another!  :o So I of course do the only logical thing, run back up the stairs and scream like a girl. Still not keen on going down there even though my dad killed both of them. *shudder* Monday night and last night it was cold enough that we got heavy frost. Slept with an extra blanket seeing as we have no oil for the furnace yet.  >:( ::) *sigh* October has officially arrived.  8-)

Yesterday was wash day. So I did my usual pre shampoo treatment for about an hour. Then I decided to try my first CWC. I didn't know whether my hair wanted it, needed it, or if it would even like it but I figured I'd give it a try. My hair absorbed all of the conditioner right away from the first condition. I figured that was a good sign. Just did ABS when wet. This morning it feels softer. Not sure how much softer then when I don't CWC. So still not sure if it's actually worth the extra effort or the extra conditioner. :-/ Still needed oil on the length low humidity=flyaways.  I never can tell if I'm using enough, because I always worry about it getting greasy, so I only use a small amount but I typically still have flyaways even after I oil so I wonder if I should be using more.  :-/ Suddenly I seem to have a pair of hair quandaries. Isn't that always the way, as soon as you think you got it all figured out your hair just has to throw something new your way.  ::) ;D

Quote:

Yep, it's fitting though. I'm painfully indecisive so why should I expect that my hair would be any different.  :D 8-)

So a little more oil doesn't seem to make much of a difference. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/confused0005.gif Ookkaayy.. so does that mean my hair actually doesn't like the oil, or that I'm still not using enough?  :-? I decided I will try another CWC tomorrow to see if maybe twice will make a more noticeable difference or not. Not really sure what I'm expecting with that.  :-/

So umm... the title of this post...  :-[ yeah. Not entirely anything to be embarrassed about. However I did hear that at 5'3" the ideal weight is 115lbs +/- 10% most likely based off frame size. I know I should be 115lbs. No less, because well, I just don't think it would be possible to weigh less then that and still have "useful" muscle mass. And certainly no more, I mean if I actually had a bigger frame yeah, but I have small wrists, and slender hips, so I should be slender all over. Now I keep going back and forth saying my weight's fine, how I look is fine then it's not.  ::) However I've come to the conclusion that since exercise alone is not bringing my waistline down any, (and I would like to lose another 1 1/4" from there) that 120lbs is no good either. So my first steps have been a new exercise routine, and I will be cutting out snacks, just breakfast, lunch, dinner and chocolate. (I can't survive in a world without chocolate much less a day.  8-) but that will be in a limited amount.) Not really sure how much good that will do.  :-/ See I was sick early this year and I didn't really eat much for a week straight. A few years ago that would of meant that I would've dropped 5lbs easy. This time I dropped 2... and kept them off for 2 days.  >:( So I'm not entirely sure the no snack thing will do anything. *sigh* At least I'm trying I suppose. I'll weigh myself tomorrow just to double check that I really am 120lbs. Just making sure I'm not a pound or two more then I figure on.  ;) And then I guess I'll do it again in a week. I figure I'll weigh whatever I need to to maintain the waist measurement I want.  [sarcasm]This should be fun... *whee* [/sarcasm]

*tap tap* Um, Tanai? 120 is a perfectly healthy weight for a 5'3" woman. It's not rail thin, no. But it's not obese either.
And yes, I have personal experience with this because that's how much I weigh during *ahem* "that time of the month."  :P

Healthier changes are good, but don't go off the deep end when you're already at an ideal weight. Try doing a few searches on healthy or ideal weight, BMI and fat percentage.

I'm also 5'3" with a small frame and I typically fluctuate between 115 and 120. So you know what, hunnay? Don't sweat it. Gain or lose a few lbs. as you wish, but don't go crazy with it. You're a hot mama just the way you are.  :)

I'm aware of what a healthy weight ect. is, healthier changes would be a bonus. But I'm so "unmotivated" that I've failed to start already.  ;D Needless to say I'm not sure "deep end" stuff would even make a difference, my weight as wanted to budge for years.  ::) That's probably where my loss of motivation came from.  ;D But those pesky 1 1/4" if I could just make them go away without any more effort then I already do.  >:( *sigh* Looks like they're here to stay as well.  ::)

Motivation comes & goes. That's just kinda how life is. Doesn't matter what sort of motivation it is either. It fluctuates and everybody loses it at some point. You'll get it back.

Personally, I haven't power walked on a regular basis in months, but I know I'll get back on it eventually (probably when the weather cools down). It happens. Just ride the wind, as they say.

Too bad I'm such a classic Aries. I get all enthused about starting something and then I never really follow through/finish out the thing I started.  :D  ::)

So yesterday was wash day decided against a CWC after I noticed that my length was just as flyaway as it usually is without a CWC.  ::) Oh well saves time and conditioner. So the usual routine. Pre shampoo treatment, ABS, oil. The same ol' same.  8-)

Today I wore my hair with the front most pulled back and braided and the rest down. I applied a bit more oil on the length after styling it because it looked still too flyaway. It helped, I think.  ;D

Found another fabulous bargain. A $20 purse for $2!  8-) Oh yeah!  :D Only downside is it smells faintly like tires.  :P :-? It's just normal dark brown straps, and a cord weave bag. Why the tire smell? Yep, they're pretty sweet.  8-) And the filling is even orange.  ;)

Didn't write Sunday, was a) too lazy and b) my life is such a yawn so I didn't feel like updating with a two sentence mention of a hairstyle.  :P

So on Sunday I wore my hair half up and accented with my silver and rhinestone butterfly barrette.

Yesterday was wash day, and I did some things different with my pre shampoo routine. I used AKO instead of JO, I warmed the mixture a bit, and I wrapped a towel around my head over top of the shower cap. Well needless to say my hair came out very soft.  8-) Not sure what aspect exactly helped but I shall recreate this on Friday using JO because I have a bottle left, then I think I will just switch to AKO because it's cheaper. But we shall see if the oil was what made the difference.  ;) :-? Needed some oil on the length still. Just can't seem to get rid of those pesky flyaways without having to add something on my dry hair the next morning.  >:( ::) Still used ABS, and I believe I may be on the verge of running out of conditioner soon.  :o Actually I've been using it since late August some I'm really quite surprised it's lasted this long, what with treatments, and longer hair. I'm usually notorious for going through two bottles of conditioner for every bottle of shampoo, but not this time.  8-)

Luckily this strange, warm 70° weather ("Indian Summer") will be coming to an end by the weekend with highs only in the 50's.  8-) I just might to be able to bring my boots out for the first time.  :D 8-)

I'm another 4:1 condish to shampoo girl.  My mom always wants to know why I always need conditioner and never shampoo, and why I roll my eyes whenever she gets me loads of shampoo when I gave her the conditioner bottel to compare to the ones at the store. ;D But I need a huge amount of condish to detangle my hair without major death-ness.

Same here. My current conditioner to shampoo ratio is about 4:1. And that's only if I don't dilute my shampoo.

Hmm... :-?

Callisto & Angel Spun: My ratio has never been worse then 2:1. But with this brand it looks like it will be more 1 1/4-1 1/2:1 Only slightly more logical.  ;D ;) Not that there's anything wrong with being illogical.  ;D

So... today I stepped on the scale... why do I do these things.  ::) And somehow I've gained two pounds.  :-? :o My real "question" is where did I put it. I've lost 1/4" from my waist, and fluctuated (again) 1/2" off my hips. Which is totally normal I've been fluctuating the same inch since 9th grade.  8-) No other parts look bigger... so where'd it go?  :-? ;D [sarcasm]It makes perfect sense.[/sarcasm]  ::) I'm exercising more so I've gained weight?  :-? I figure it's either a) all the excess chocolate I've consumed in the past week. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0076.gif or b) it's muscle. I'm actually hoping it's a because b makes it sound like everything I'm doing is counter productive. Yeah, exercise is making me fat.  ::) Not something I'd want to hear, but would be nice if it worked that way, because I'd sit on my @$$ forever.  ;D:D

It is possible that you are gaining muscle.  Since muscle is denser than fat, you can gain weight and loose inches.  That's why it's kinda ridiculous how much stress our society puts on pounds, not body fat percentiles.

Also, people can fluctuate several pounds throughout the day depending on water retention, and stomach/other digestive organ contents.  Personally, I weight about 100 lbs when I get home from school, and if I weigh myself after dinner (rarely, I usually do my homework) I can weigh a pound or two more.

When I went on my trip to Costa Rica, I lost four pounds in two weeks from walking 4+ hours a day.  My dad made me weight myself before and after to see the difference.

Too true, I know several people who, by BMI standards, are considered overweight when in reality they are nearly all muscle.  ::) So I suppose I'll weigh whatever I do, as long as my measurements are where I want them. :) I'll just have to remember to stay away from the scale after that point.  ;D

Quote:

Yep that's why I always weigh myself first thing in the morning, sans clothes, because it's your truest weight.

Quote:

100lbs... :o I haven't weighed 100 since 7th grade, and around 100 since 9th grade.  :P You lucky tiny thing you.  8-) ;) ;D lol.

Great way to lose a few, but I can't afford a trip to Costa Rica or some other such trekking getaway.  ;D

So yeah, yesterday was wash day. That new pre shampoo routine worked just as well with the JO as it did the AKO. So that's settled. Oh and my dad makes turban jokes about my towel that I wear over my shower cap.  ::) See Angel, I told ya I knew what it's like.  ;D ABS, oil as leave ins. Just wore it in a braid today, because it's breezy and I'm to freaking lazy to do anything more.  :D

Today was the first day I've worn a sweater this season!  8-) Course it's a 100% cotton one, but still. Gotta love that brisk fall air.  ;D Certainly feels different then the 77° we had two days ago.

hehe Tanai...you're lucky if that's all the grief your dad gives you about your hair.  ::)

And don't worry about weight fluctuations - they're totally normal. The important thing is that the numbers are healthy and steadily going down at a very gradual pace.

Weight loss doesn't - and shouldn't - happen overnight. When you're already at a healthy weight, getting down to your ideal weight takes bloody forever. The last 5-10 lbs. are the hardest to lose. It can take months or even years depending on your chemistry. The key factor is consistency. Just keep at it and it will happen for ya eventually.  :)

Well, Tanai, I am only in 10th grade ;D.  But, I'm nearly all muscle (four gym classes and three dance classes a week will do that to you) and only 5' 1".  So I'll probably actually loose weight when I stop having gym classes (next year) from loosing the muscle. ::)

Today I tried to wear my hair in a French tuck but pathetic bobby pins are no match for the weight of my hair.  ;D I seriously need to find some better hairpins.  >:( So I wore it in a French braid. It was pretty d@mn windy out there today, and not exactly warm. I wore a light cardigan under my blazer to keep me warm. My outfit was probably as goth as I get. Burgundy blouse, black blazer, black dress pants, black suede heels.  ;) It's supposed to be 30° tonight.  :o Zounds already!?! So I brought out my down blanket. Time for three blankets seeing as we still don't heating oil.  ::) >:( Though my mom did say we will get some this week, before prices go back up.

We are only required to take 2 years of gym. After that people either have a prep (free period) take an extra class or take advanced fitness.  But that's really only for people who want to be professional athletes or physical trainers or something.

*nods* My high school required 2 years of P.E. as well...but I took 3. I needed another class to fill a time slot, so I took a grueling aerobics/fitness class that put me in the best shape of my life just in time for graduation.  ;)

I'm probably going to have a prep Junior year and take AP Bio, and then take both Physics and Biotechnology senior year, with the Biotech filling the PE time slot.  That way I can take Spanish and Art classes all four years and still fill my voc-ed requirements.

I was really sad b/c they said they were going to offer dance as a gym class, but the teacher got pregnant and they didn't bother replacing her.  Thus, I ended up taking normal gym instead.  :P.  Our teacher gives us grades by how well we do on our fitness tests, and I CANNOT run the mile in under 8 mins, to get an 'a'.  Luckily we are allowed to do badly in one test, and since I can get the highest level for the boys(which for some reason are higher?) in sit-ups and the highest in push-ups, I'm fine in the others.

High school requirements are weird.

Wash Day

So yesterday wash day. Hallelujah! I was quite the grease monkey.  :P So much in fact that I decided against a pre shampoo treatment. Which was a good idea seeing as it would've just sat on my hair then get rinsed down the drain. So I clarified using some Tea Tree shampoo that was lying around *cough* strong smelling stuff. Then ACV because I was too lazy to locate and then proceed to open the huge bottle of DWV that's lurking somewhere.  And shampoo and conditioned as usual. With ABS wet, and plenty of oil dry. It really dried my length out this time but the top certainly needed it.

We have heat! Hallelujah, again!  ;D Finally because yesterday the house was so freaking cold.  :P I might actually be able to sleep with only two blankets tonight.  :) Oh and we had the first snow flurries of the season. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/jumping0045.gifAlbeit tiny pathetic brief snow flurries but still flakeage nonetheless.  ;D 8-)

Update Sorta

Just wanted to report that yesterday's weighing saw a 1lb drop. Of course I'd prefer if it had been from 120lbs instead of 122lbs but a 1lb's a pound in my opinion. I have a feeling I knew where it came from... someplace where I didn't exactly need to lose weight.  ::) Anywho so it looks like stagnation for the most part because waist is back up 1/4" just small fluctuations. That's fine as long as it's no drastic gains.  >:( So I shall just keep on trucking with my new routine and check again next Friday.  8-)

Wash day was moved today because I'm going out tomorrow not today staying home for the BC (that's Breeder's Cup for those out of the loop). Big day so ciao!

Wash Day etc.

So Saturday was wash day. Usual pre shampoo and leave ins. However had to blowfry my hair that night, I used the cool setting.  >:( Because I wasn't going to stay up another two hours waiting for the back and underside of my hair to dry. It's no worse for the wear. Yesterday I wore it with a side part then half up accented with a black sequin and beaded beak clip.

Yesterday we bought a lovely Black Forest cake.  ;D Don't worry I'm not eating too other junk and it's been since the beginning of the year since I've had cake, shouldn't be too much of a sin.  8-)

Winter Weather

So yes yesterday I forgot to mention that Sunday I watched Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.  8-) Only showing of that I'll see.  :P And no one seems to be showing Nightmare Before Christmas.  :-? >:( I should seriously get the special edition DVD.

So anyways we have a full blown Nor'easter going on out here. 40+mph winds, driving rain/sleet/snow at times and temps are stead in the mid 30's.  ;D I can picture you now Angel staring dumbfounded at this post while you live in your SoCal sun.  ;D Oh and I should mention that locations have snow on grassy surfaces and elevations over 1500ft have gotten around 10".  8-) And yes this is totally unusual for this area at this time of the year. Global warming anyone?  :D

Wash Day

Yesterday was wash day, the usual pre shampoo treatment and leave ins. Hair dried like a puffball.  ;D Plenty of static.  :P

So unfortunately we received no accumulating snow. However there was one lucky higher elevation pocket that got 17".  :o And the funny part was if you drove 3.5mi out there was only a dusting of snow on grassy surfaces.  :o ;D Still windy out there but not as strong or as cold it's about 40° but is still very raw and cold and it has started drizzling. *brrr* I mean I like the cold but this is that kind of raw cold that even if you wear a coat, hat, scarf, and gloves it still chills you to the bone. Ironically it's supposed to be 60° by Friday/Saturday.  8-)  :-? Crazy weather. lol

Quick Update

So today wash day, talk about that tomorrow. But I did manage to lose another pound this week bringing me back to my start weight of 120lbs. Wouldn't it be something if I could actually see a number lower then 120.  :o That's been like 3+ years. So in spite of eating black forest cake for three days I still managed to drop weight. Looks like my exercise routine is working.  8-) So I can have my cake and eat it too.  ;D Sorry just had to do it.  ;)

Wash Day WTF?

So yesterday I figured I'd try something different for my pre shampoo treatment. I to the usual concoction of BBAB conditioner and JO I added some SAO, AKO, my KO dry hair oil, some AVG and rosewater. Mixing it together it came out thicker then it usually does. A good sign I thought. Unfortunately I had to use a cool blowfryer last night again. But this time my hair came out very dry, last week I used a blowfryer with the usual pre shampoo mix and my hair was fine.  :-? Weird thicker mixture dryer hair. Whatever not doing that anymore. So had front of hair pulled back with small ponytails to hold up barrettes. However they annoyed me because they weren't staying so I took them out. As I was combing my hair out I realized how dry it actually was.  :P I suspect I also didn't use enough oil today. So I put it in a side braid and left it.

Wash Day  :-?

So yet another wash day dilemma. I acquired greasy roots before I shampooed.  :-? The air's drier and yet my roots are greasier?  :-? And I just did a clarifying day what two-three weeks ago.  :-?  :P Bleh I wonder what that's about. Anyway back to the typical pre shampoo mixture. Hair seems to like it a bit better as long as it's followed with ABS and ample dry oiling.  ::)

It's supposed to be fabulous here on Friday, sunny and in the mid 60's.  8-) Autumn's last hurray I suppose. Then onto the snow!  ;D Yes well after that day where it was so raw that I thought my bones had frozen :o I'll take a brief bout with the 60's.

It's only November 5th and already radio and television stations are playing Christmas carols and are running holiday ads.  :o And they wonder why by the time December actually rolls around that I'm practically sick of Christmas already.  >:(  :P There is such a thing as overkill people.

::) That about sums it up.  :P

So yesterday was wash day, nothing out of the ordinary there. It was more humid today so I needed more oil and BBAB to fight frizzies. Wore hair in a braid that I looped around up the back of my head and clipped in place.

Bought some makeup from Ulta. They had a makeup train case with $195 worth of make up for $20 with a 20% off coupon.  8-) Good deal. Also got my dog some giant loofah toys. Angel:  8-) Uh huh, it does get better when you do it two days in a row.  ;)

Today after minimal oil and BABB just to make hair a bit more manageable. I wore my hair in a flipped ponytail with the end braided and accented with two sterling silver and faux pearl hair combs. Good style for church Sundays with wind or foul weather. We had the former a bit.

Afterwards I bought outdoor boots for going out in the yard. And a cute pair of suede/faux shearling boots for when it gets cold. They were on sale.  8-) Yes another good day with a chocolate chip muffin lunch. More sweet deals and meals.  :D Yes it rhymes I know. "don't spear me!"  :D ;D

Would You Believe Even More Wash Day Confusion  :-?

So yesterday, being my typical exceedingly lazy self. I decided to opt out of doing my usual pre shampoo routine.  :o So other then ABS when it was wet. Then oil eventually. I discovered it was not more flyaway or drier then it normally is. And it actually seems fluffier?  :-? Wow this could be a good thing. I might actually be able to get away with only doing intensives once a week. *blinks blankly* What confuses me is how is this turning out to be a good thing?  :-? But my laziness loves it.  ;D And apparently so does my hair.  ;D

Stuff

Yes so it looks as if this lazy @$$ will be cutting back to deep conditioning once a week. In other hair notes I've figured that once I get my hair to my goal length...
34" @ 1/2" 9/12mos - 1"tri-annual trim = the twelfth of never.  :D
That I will stop taking the Biotin to a) slow my growth down so maintenance will be easier and b) to thin my hair out again. Since my hair is thick and coarse it can often look bushy, which can at times look overwhelming on someone of small stature and frame. So eliminating it should bring it back to where it was before I started taking it about a 3" ponytail instead of a 4". And should make some styles easier to do because I have a #ell of a time coiling my hair.  :P But that's neither here nor there at the moment.

Anyways it's a "nice" weather day. In the 40's with steady rain, that bone chilling nip in the air. A perfect day for staying under a blanket and having hot chocolate with spice cookies. Which is precisely what I plan on doing later this afternoon.  :D

Wash Day, Updates, and Weekends

So yes forgot to post that weight has dropped back down to 120lbs. That weight gain was precisely what I thought it was. Will stick to new exercise routine for a month and see if there's any improvements before trying something new yet again.  ::)

Yesterday was wash day. Forced myself to do my pre shampoo routine. Hair is definitely happier with only weekly deep conditioning it isn't weighed down as much. ABS and a little extra oil and BBAB this morning because had to put hair back in a braid today. 50mph winds.  :P So I did a Dutch braid. No clue about tomorrow's contained style as of yet.

So it was "supposed to" rain all day today. The weather stations were so certain of it they said 100% chance of rain... it didn't rain 80% of the day.  ;D ::) It came down like crazy this morning and was really windy. The wind stayed but the sun came out and it got to 70°. Of course I didn't bring sunglasses.  ::) Tomorrow is supposed to be windy again but only in the 40's. We have a chance of snow showers later in the week, and it will be very cool all the way through next week averaging in the upper 30's to low 40's. Such is November in our part of the Northeast. Incidentally it still can warm up last Thanksgiving it was 68°.  ::)

Tis A Windy Weekened

$#!t that wind makes it cold out there. It's 44° right now with like a 30-40mph wind. *brr* So yes. Hair was just a braid today accented with my rhinstone scrolled butterfly barrette. With adequate KO and BBAB to make it behave. First time I got to where my hat/scarf/gloves. My dressy church set is a white furry hat, a lot like a Russian hat, with white gloves and white Angora scarf. And my plain set is the multicolored scarf I knitted myself with brown Angora hat and gloves. Yes you heard me Angora if you're one of those PETA minded people who have a problem with people wearing animal fuzz just keep your BS to yourself. I'm not for cruelty or animal testing but d@mn it I will wear them and eat them.  >:( And yes I actually do plan on owning a leather jacket and fur coat one day, 8-) I've already got leather boots and purses.  ;) And yes I do eat meat.  ;D So anywho... it'sa cold out there. And I'm ready for any potential snow showers that may come our way. The cold doesn't look to be going anywhere and I can't wait to break out my sweaters.  8-)

Wash Day...*brrr*

It is freaking cold out there. Our highs have been and will remain in the mid to upper 30's all week. Of course this means sweaters and my new boots can come out to play but $#!t it was 70° on Saturday we never seem to get anytime to acclimate. And our average high is actually 48°. This weather also means lots of hot chocolate and time under a blanket after freezing my tail off.  ;D

So an uneventful wash day. Used a little more ABS seems to make my hair behave a bit more. *hmm* I'm thinking of trying the rest of the products from that line because they look like they have some nifty stuff and I'm curious.  :D

Wash Day, Weight, Hair Stress
Weighed myself yesterday. Three muffins this week put me up to 121lbs. So no muffin today and perhaps next week to see if I can't lose a couple. After that I'll probably not weigh myself until my waist measurement actually drops. No point otherwise, I don't actually have any excess fat anywhere else so that would be a good indicator.  :P Anyone know any "miracle" ab exercises?  ;D

Yesterday was wash day with a TWC usual routine. ABS wet and KO and BBAB dry tried using extra BBAB on damp hair to make braids. Those didn't stay so I took them out and made one braid that didn't stay.  >:(  :P  I've got a couple more ideas on that front before I throw in the towel.

It's so f***ing cold out there it was only in the low 30's today which for us is typical only in January!  :o Needless to say I got to wear my first sweater and my new boots.  8-) Both of which helped to keep me toasty.  ;D

Bought a new nail buffing block today and some Split End Mender (SEM). Desperately need to order some hair pins and a new comb.  :P Also will be running out of shampoo in 1/2 weeks.  ::)

I just figured out that if my hair only grows 1/2" for 9 months then stops growing those months in the summer and I trim an inch every 4 months that my hair will only be a half inch longer by next October.  :o WTF? So I've decided to try to hold off on trimming my hair as long as possible perhaps the SEM will help my ends to keep from looking scary too soon. I mean I'm going to work at "growing" my hair so I can gain half an inch?  :-? :P I don't think so.  >:( Needless to say that p!$$ed me off.  ::)

Just An Update

Hair was worn in a flipped ponytail accented with a crystal and sterling silver hair comb. Twas a bit nicer yesterday upper 30's with sun. Today it's in the mid 40's except it's very cloudy and raw with a bone chilling wind. I'm sitting here now with my hot chocolate and blanket "thawing out" so to speak.  ;D Rain is expected. Unfortunately to late at night to enjoy it.  :P Perhaps tomorrow.  ;D

Quite The Busy Hair Day.

So yesterday was wash day. After realizing my scalp had been itchy for the last week and my hair was looking gunky I decided it was high time to do a clarifying day. So after my usual JO scalp massage that was precisely what I did. I washed with tea tree scalp therapy shampoo that was lying around, must get some clarifying shampoo. Followed with a white vinegar rinse, and my regular shampoo, with extra conditioner. Wet leave ins were ABS on length and SEM for the first time on ends. Hair dried and is 20x better then before. It so needed that.  8-) Just needed a touch of oil on the length today and hair is very silky and safely out of the way. Ended the day with a round of S&D which must become a regular part of my routine if I hope to extend the time between trims.

:P I've got a very mild case of acute viral tonsillitis. It's more of a nuisance then anything else. A swollen tonsil, some cold like symptoms, no fever or anything. But a perfect excuse to get out of exercising.  ;D 8-)

Well I won't be posting till Friday because tomorrow's Thanksgiving, duh.  ::) Happy Thanksgiving everyone! http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/char1character0104.gif

I'm sure just love that they call it that Angel.  ;)

So no recession around where I live. Lines were very long most places. Bought a few things. Got boots for mucky winter weather, some new slipper socks, the WALL-E DVD, some new lotion, and a new sweater blazer it's blazer cut with buttons and a waist tie, it's really cute need to lose about 5lbs to fit it though.  ::) Perhaps next winter, and before you bother to ask yes it is my size it's just the crop cut puts emphasis on ones tummy.  :P ;D Hair wasn't washed yesterday, and I'll wash it tomorrow. So I wore it in low braided pigtails with my denim "news-boyish" hat. Hope everyone snagged some great deals.  8-)

Wash Day

WALL-E was great. So cute, so amusing, great story, even greater message. And the extras were funny as well.

So yesterday I was wash day. So being a lazy @$$ I decided to just mix some BBAB and conditioner together and just leave it on under a shower cap and towel for about 15mins. My hair is softer after this then it is after the usual hour treatment.  :-? Ookkaayy... well that's good news for my lazy self.  ;D

Simply "wonderful" weather today. It's been in the 30's with rain and that lovely raw tinge to the air. We got a dusting of snow/sleet overnight. All in all pretty nice.   [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif] now all we need is some snow. And according to the winter forecasts this year we should be seeing plenty of it.  8-)

No Wash Day

So no wash day today. The hot water heater finally crapped out.  :P Probably the source of the "onion" water and lately the "rubber glove" water no doubt.  >:( So until we have a new one showers should be pretty interesting. And washing my hair is totally out of the question. It used to take two quarts to do my hair when it was around shoulder length it's probably at least double now. Too much hassle so my hair will get a special conditioning treatment from my own natural oils.  ::) *sigh* My parents totally need to start getting things fixed before the fall apart. First it was the old computer last year and now the water heater.  ::) If only money wasn't an issue... well at this place in my life I would have to be living in a fantasy world for that to be true.  ::) ;D

That Was The Oddest Wash Ever

So yesterday I washed my hair first time without hot water still.  ::) But umm it was odd albeit ingenious. I warmed up some water and filled several pitchers with it and used that for most of it then rinsed my conditioner out with cold as usual. Showers haven't been too bad it's basically the same concept. So ABS on length, SEM on ends. Hair feels gummy today.  :-? Perhaps it was too much ABS? But I haven't increased the amount. I figure it's more likely that my shampoo wasn't rinsed out completely.  :P Eh hair went in a braid and was out of sight out of mind. All will be normal on Tuesday for my next wash day so we'll see. Tis cold out there with potential snow tonight.  8-) However it will be just as cold tomorrow except with the addition of 30-40mph winds.  :o Not so cool.  :P

Title: Re: The Chronicles of Tanai's Hair

...I Can't Come Up With A Title...  :-?

So yesterday was wash day. Certainly much nicer with the new water heater.  8-) Water stays a constant temperature, no pitchers or "onion" water.  8-) Water pressure suxs though.  :P Big time.  >:( Hair still turned out gummy today. I'll try cutting back on leave ins. Must be using too much.  ::) Getting new shampoo and conditioner this weekend.  :) Hopefully they'll be nice.  ::)

So we had our first measurable snow Saturday night. Not much just 1/2 an inch. Then we didn't even get to 30° on Monday.  :o Now it's 57° and raining.  :-? Tomorrow it will be 35° with rain/sleet possibly even snow.  :-? The weather certainly is being weird. It's confusing even my hair.  :P It's December, cold, snow period!  ;D

Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's that simple. The hot water flow is pretty bad in the bathroom sink as well.  :P I doubt my parents are going to spend the money to fix whatever the problem may be.  :P Such is life in these times eh?

Wash Day... And A Bad Hair Idea

So Saturday was wash day. Usual WC routine with less ABS and SEM. I decided to put my hair in four braids overnight for waves. Used aloe vera gel and oil to set them. When I took them out it looked awful.  :P I looked like I had had a run in with a bad crimping iron.  ::) Makes me wonder if they always looked that bad.  :-/ From now on I will use soft rollers to make waves. Needless to say I had already applied soft hold hair spray and BBAB before deciding this.  ::) As I combed and brushed at it my hair became very bushy. Which reminded me of why I'm glad I'm not naturally wavy or curly.  ;D After getting my hair tangled into a mess I manged to get it into a braid and wore it as such.  :P Got new shampoo and conditioner yesterday will be switching to them on Tuesday with my clarifying routine. Said leave ins have made my hair a greasy gunky mess.  :P

We had snow showers on Saturday, it's 60° today, tomorrow we're supposed to have 2-4" of snow and ice and sleet  http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0044.gif:o :-?... weird stuff. Though we probably won't have a white Christmas, we rarely do.  :P

Clarifying and Winter Weather

So yesterday was a much needed clarifying day. With the typical routine of clarifying shampoo, DWV rinse, and regular shampoo and conditioner. I also tried out my new shampoo and conditioner. They're both very thick and work really well. I think my hair likes cones. It certainly hasn't felt like this in awhile. A couple more leave ins and I think I may have it under control.  ;D So the usual ABS, SEM, and KO. Hair is into two braids today which made doing S&D so much easier. Will be checking ends every month starting next year for oppressive damage really hoping to delay my trim until at least March if not longer. Seeing as I'm unsure whether or not my hair will stop growing again this summer or not. I so want to reach at least waist length next year. Too many trims and a lack of growing time will prevent that, but I'll guess I'll just have to wait and see how it goes.  :P Not an easy endeavor for an impatient person.  ::)

We got 3.5" of snow yesterday.  :D 8-) With more wintery weather expected Friday and Sunday night into Monday.  8-)It may not actually snow on Christmas but there might be snow on the ground. That and it's supposed to get freaking cold. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0007.gif Which becomes entirely more tolerable as long as there's snow.  ;D ::)

Wash Day and More Winter Weather

So yesterday was wash day did a TWC routine. Hair hadn't had a deep condition in two full weeks.  :P It's exceedingly soft but still incredibly flyaway.  :P Such is winter. Leave ins were ABS, SEM, KO. Hair was just in a braid so it can easily be tucked under my coat and hat.

It's cold out there. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0007.gif 25°. Yesterday we had all manner of winter weather. Snow, sleet, freezing rain, wind. We got about 3.5" of snow with about a 1/4" of ice. Another storm is coming tomorrow and another on Wednesday.

So today I ventured for the tape measure, allowing ample time for any um... "monthly issues" to have subsided. I've lost an inch from my waist and dropped two pounds! :o  http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0203.gif 8-) I haven't weighed 118lbs since I graduated high school! http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0192.gif Apparently my body likes my exercise and eating habits.  8-) So I'll keep it up and will hopefully maintain this any added losses are a bonus.  8-)

Wash Day and Christmas

So since tomorrow is Christmas Eve and it's obviously followed by Christmas I'm posting today because honestly I'll be too busy to do this then.  ::) So yes today will be wash day. I'm contemplating a CWC... because I've got serious flyaways.  :P Except their mostly triggered by my evil plastic comb.  >:( So I don't know. I might just for the hell of it... We'll see.  ::)

So yes I being the baking fiend that I am will be making a Nut Roll for Christmas those of Eastern European descent won't be surprised by this choice.  ;)

So anyways after having temperatures that would've frozen limbs off, had I been crazy enough to venture out.  ;D We'll be warmer/seasonable for Christmas. But alas no snow, which is usually the way of it.  :P But I really shouldn't complain. Even though we had a low of 9° the other day I know someone, who that same day, had that temp for their high.  :o Yep too cold for my blood. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0007.gif But honestly 25° with 40mph winds isn't much fun either.  :P

So to make a boring story short. Merry Christmas All! See ya after the holiday!

Christmas

Angel: Well I would certainly hope you would know what a nut roll is.  ::) T'would be just scary otherwise.  :-?  :o  ;D

So yes Tuesday was wash day. Just did a WC. ABS, SEM, and KO with BBAB yesterday. Will wash tomorrow, not enough time today.  :P So yesterday I wore my hair in the "Victorian" which is about the only fancy look I can pull off with out good hairpins.  ::) Amazingly it stayed.  :o I accented it with a silver and faux pearl hair comb. Outfit has been my standby a wine colored silk blouse and pinstripe trousers with my dress boots. So afterward it was home to fight the nut roll.  ;D So Wednesday I made the dough and refrigerated it overnight...  :-? odd for nut roll dough... so then the recipe didn't really make quite enough and there was way too much filling.  :P Besides who ever heard of meringue in a nut roll?  :-? There was so much excess filling that it was oozing out all over as I tried to roll it.  :P >:( :o However, I did manage to get it baked and it is quite good with the edition of my dark chocolate glaze and chopped walnuts. The excess meringue was turned into makeshift cookies which are good for not being really what they are supposed to be.  ;D :) So all and all not too bad, just so not using that recipe again.  :P

Today hair was worn in a French (rope) twist. By Sunday it'll be very mild and I'll be able to wear that sweater blazer I bought Black Friday, seeing as it'll fit now.  8-)

Wash Day

Alright Saturday was wash day. I, almost, forgot to do a treatment prior to washing.  :P Talk about being lazy and scatterbrained.  ;D :D ::) So I just dumped some conditioner on my length dry then stuffed it under a shower cap and towel for about 15mins. It made my hair bushy which is typically the hallmark of a bad hair idea. But it turned out alright in the end. Don't know if it did any good but I did something.  ;D So yesterday I wore my hair contained under a jaw clip because it was insanely windy. But also 63°.  8-)  :o Weird stuff. Now it's going to get colder and snow.  :-? Welcome to winter where I live.  ;D Got to wear the sweater blazer which I think was my highlight of the weekend. That and our football team made it to the playoffs.  8-) :o Where they'll probably blow it.  ::)  ;D Yes ladies I am a sports fan, just football and anything equestrian. I don't do long and boring.  ;D  ::)

Hopefully will be getting closer to going comb shopping in the next month or so. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/jumping0047.gif I'm nuts I know.   ::) ;D http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/jumping0001.gif

Wash Day Woes

So I, being a repetitive fool, decided, last minute, to try another CWC. Which of course did absolutely nothing, which I knew was precisely what would happen.  ::) So perhaps this time I will finally learn my lesson.  ::) Well ABS and SEM wet. And my hair's dry as a bone today.  :P Two helpings of oil, which I believe it does not like straight, (must be pre-blended with other ingredients) and it's still dry!  >:( I believe my new shampoo and conditioner are not moisturizing enough... I knew I should've gotten a more moisturizing formula. *V8 head bonk* So will try to rectify the situation soon before it become mid-spring and I need to get anti-frizz products for summer.  ;D

So yes it's about 30° with a 40-50mph wind, maybe 15% humidity... oh yes great hair weather.  ::) Which is why I'll stay indoors with my hot chocolate.  8-)

Have you tried any of the products made specifically for curly hair?  I have to use them or my hair and scalp dries out really bad.  I like Devacurl, Mop Top, and Ouidad's Quench line.  Devacurl and Mop Top have travel sets you can get to try out for a pretty low price.  Check out www.curlmart.com where they have lots of stuff available.

I don't remember if your hair likes cones or not.  They dry the heck out of my hair so I don't use them.

Good luck, I hope you can solve your issue soon.

Resolutions http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/indifferent0001.gif

Thanks Sakina. I think my hair does like cones I did notice they've helped lessen the coarse feel of my hair. However I'm not entirely sure if curly products will do any good on a straight hair. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/confused0024.gif But as with everything lately money is an issue limiting abilities to acquire anything.  :P >:(

So um... resolutions... I guess it's several that can be listed under two headings...
1) Get hair to at least waist length... feasible if it'll grow this summer. *glares at hair  >:(*
2) Put plan into action...with successful results God willing! (Yes Angel my aforementioned plan... and I've only got 9 months to pull it off. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/confused0089.gif Definitely going to take some help from "upstairs.")

Wash Day

*hugs* Thanks Angel. I need all the help I can get.  ;) ;D ::)

So yesterday was wash day with a pretreatment. I did a proper one this time BBAB with conditioner and left it in for over half an hour. Wet hair leave ins were the usual ABS and SEM. My comb suxs so bad it makes my hair so staticy.  >:( I can't wait until I can by a new one. That and new shampoo and conditioner again.  ::) Got hair under control with a healthy dose of KO (which my hair hates  ::)) and dollop of BBAB. Got it manageable enough to measure. Woot woot 28"! Hip length here I come! Just hopefully not with this much static.  >:( :P Well today I brought out my sad pair of Claire's hairsticks. And used them to secure my braided bun. Only needed two bobby pins for the tail.  8-) Still don't think my hair will stay without braiding the bun first yet. That has always been trouble.  :P Got a cool dark periwinkle key hole 7/8 sleeve shirt with singular rhinestone decoration on the keyhole. Oddly enough I had a coupon for it.  :-?  So I got a Gloria Vanderbilt top for $8.  :o 8-) I love bucking the system. ;D ::)

Trial and Error

So today I decided to see if my hair was long enough yet for a pony-knot. I tried it several months ago and the tail just about made it out of the knot.  ;D Now however it is successfully up in said style today. However the very tips of my tail just mange to brush my shoulders.  ::) ;D However it's a decent enough hairstyle when one has no where to go. I think it's still a little too funny looking to where out.  :D

On the sports front our football team advanced this week.  8-) As I hear did the one out Angel's way. It would be hilarious if our teams played each other in the Super Bowl.  ;D  8-)

Wash Day

Wash day was Tuesday. Just the usual WC with ABS and SEM. Horrid oil when dry.  :P Hair likes any additional moisture in the air which was why it was better yesterday (raining) then today dry, cold windy.  ::) :P [sarcasm] Fortunately I live in a place where winters have higher humidity.  ::) [/sarcasm]  ;D

Snow!

Yes finally a snowstorm, not snow to mix or some other such nonsense. Just snow.  8-) We've got an inch now and they're still forecasting 5-9 inches.  8-) Of course I want the 9.  ;D ::)

False Meteorological Advertising

So yes of course as with most snowstorms they got it wrong. If they say a foot you get an inch. If they say an inch you get a foot.  ::) How quickly 5-9in became 3-6in which wound up being a measly 3.  >:( *sigh* Such is life. All I can say is I hope their wrong about this incoming cold because by next weekend our highs ares supposed to be in the teens.  :o I can't even remember the last time we had temps this cold during the day.  :P Too cold for even my snow loving blood. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/char1/character0197.gif <-- I have no desire to become one just because I stood still for five minutes.  :D

Well anyways yesterday was TWC day. Which I always find to be a pain in the butt, well because I'm lazy mostly.  ::) But yes today hair is quite the haystack due to lack of humidity. I attempted to do a french braid pulled over to the side which was better in concept then execution.  ::) However I did manage to purchase a new hydrating conditioner and will hopefully follow it in a week or two with the matching shampoo. At least it's the same brand as what I'm using now so it shouldn't matter too much.

Next week hair is going to disappear into a French tuck so I can make it disappear under my hat. I'm so tired of finagling with a braid that keeps getting messed up from being tucked under my coat.  :P This is almost making me wish for spring.  :o ;D Almost.  ;)

Ish Cold

I failed to wash my hair on Tuesday due to a distraction caused by horse pull events at our state Farm Show. Good for my hair anyways to sit in extra natural oils. So yesterday I did a TWC with my new hydrating conditioner. Hair is showing a bit of improvement in the flyaway department which should be corrected with the additions of the matching shampoo and a new comb.  ::) Leave ins were ABS, SEM, KO, and BBAB.

It's been so friggen cold. Thursday night/Friday morning we got down to 3° and our high was 17°. Last night we got down to -3° and managed to get up to 19°. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0007.gif I managed to get my hair into a french tuck which actually looks like a big mess.  :P Covered by my angora hat it's totally forgettable which was the point. Definitely a day for warm coats, fuzzy hats, boots, scarves, sweaters, and gloves. And lots of hot chocolate. All of which I wore and what I shall now consume. Thankfully there's a warm up coming by mid week that and that I don't live north of where I do, where they got down to -20° or better. Or in Maine where they got down to -50.°  :o Too cold for even this North Easter. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0007.gif

Thermal underwear, no I'm not kidding. You need a second layer at that temp, and preferably as little exposed flesh as possible. Especially if there's a wind chill. Believe it or not there were still people walking around in just sweatshirts and I saw one kid in shorts.  :-? :o ::) Some people just have no sense.

;D "Watching" most likely meant you flipped channels a half hour into it saw they were losing bad and stopped "watching" there.  ;D :D ;) We're playing today. So we'll see we just might make the Super Bowl again, then I can be into more than just the commercials.  ;D Just kidding, the Super Bowl is usually a pretty good game. I've seen some exciting moments in my time. Then there have also been the games that were total snores.  ::) Yes, even this fan manages to get bored from time-to-time too.  ;) I'm not male so I'm not die hard.  ;D :D

Thermals! I knew it. hehehe ;) Believe it or not, it actually gets cold enough for them here in SoCal every so often.

And my dear, you give me way too much credit. ::) Flipping channels would suggest that I'd been sitting idly in front of the tele for any given amount of time...which is unlikely for me. ;)
Actually, I think my parents had the game on and I walked in, watched long enough to predict the outcome, then left the room. The next day's headlines confirmed what I already knew.

My mistake.  ::) ;D And yes they pretty much were doomed from the start of that game. As was our team who decided now was a good time not to show up.  ::) Around here it's about par.  ::) Oh well Super Bowl commercials are still fun.  ;D

Yesterday I mixed up my own version of a Moisture Mist, that is the same line of my hair products. However I haven't been able to find a place that sells it so I improvised. I took the same scent hydrating conditioner I just bought dumped some into a spray bottle added water and I've probably something practically identical to what I can't find. I used it last night and this morning and it's cut back on the static from combing big time. It should work exceedingly better than my last at home leave in conditioner concoction which was made with a conditioner my hair didn't like and oils my hair didn't like. Perhaps I'll pawn my leftover KO onto my mother, who usually winds up with my castoffs anyways.  ::)

My monthly measure and weigh in has me up a pound but my waist is the same.  :-? Whatever I'm more interested in keeping those inches the same then the pounds. And if anyone can actually tell the difference between 118 and 119lbs. They're certifiable anyways.  ;D ::)

Wash Day

So this wash day I tried something different that I found on here. Twas called C-COW-C. Now I've done both COW and CWC washes both with bad results. The COW just added a grease layer and the CWC did nothing. This, however, left my hair softer and not greasy. Happy less flyaway and dry hair. Leave ins were ABS, SEM, and MM. I think I'm getting the hang of this.  :D

Wash Day

So yesterday I did a TC-COW-C. Hair is soft and happy with flyaways under control. Leave ins were the usual ABS, SEM, and MM. Wore hair today in a flipped ponytail with braided tail. As it was windy and cold today.  :P Yesterday we made it to 50°.  Figures I'm not going out until today and tomorrow, which will be even colder.  ::) Hair will probably be the same for tomorrow with the addition of an accent for church. Wee... ::) Hat/cold weather hairstyles are growing annoying.  :P

Wash Day

So yesterday was wash day. And it was time for a clarifying routine. So it was done with my new clarifying shampoo, that I finally got to use.  ::) DWV with another wash and conditioner. The usual leave ins of ABS SEM and MM. Hair's not complaining too much and is clipped up and out of my way.

Last night we got 4" of snow.  8-) Still paltry but I'll take it, except it switched over to sleet/freezing rain this morning and is now freezing rain/rain.  :P It never fails.  ::)

Cold And Wash Day
Wash day was yesterday with a T-C-COW-C with my treatment being left in for over an hour. Hair was braided for under hat wearing as it was cold and windy... again.  :P Tomorrow will be the start of a two day warm up which is possibly being followed by a massive snowstorm.  :o 8-) *does happy dance* However as I, and Trisha know don't believe it 'till you see it, because these forecasters can't get anything right.  ::) ;D Think snow everyone!

Wash Day and The Storm That Wasn't  ::)

Yesterday was wash day. A, now, typical C-COW-C. Leave ins the same ol' same ABS, SEM, and MM. Will need to make more MM. My stupid flyaway hair wants gallons of it.  ::)

Yes, yesterday was the snow storm that wasn't. Now we did get 4" of wet snow. And it did snow practically all day. But Saturday it was "supposed to" give us a direct hit and about a foot of snow. I can't remember the last time we got a foot of snow from one storm. And I was looking forward to it.  >:( Now we have a two week warm up ahead, which I hear is supposed to bring cool weather to SoCal. So there goes are chances of snow.  :P

Today I attempted to do a self trim with feye's instructions. My ends were looking spooky. Well I failed miserably so I just had my mom even it out. Luckily no length was lost especially good seeing as I hadn't added any in the last month.  >:( Stupid hair.  ::)

Wash Day and Nail Polish  :-?

Yesterday was T-C-COW-C day. Followed by ABS, SEM, and MM which I still have yet to make more of.  ::)

The warm up is here! Which meant not having to go out with a hat on.  8-) And not having to worry about my hairstyle fitting under said hat.  8-) Since I still wore a coat I still wore my hair up, I hate the way it hangs with that coat.  :P I did a braided loop with a jaw clip. It's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. And will stay in the 40's-50's for at least all of next week. We'll probably get a snowstorm afterward. Which is equally cool.  8-)

In a fit of insanity.  ;D I decided to paint my fingernails yesterday. *checks to see if Angel fainted or if her jaw needs to be picked up off the floor  ;D* They're our now neatly,  :o, sporting a color with a lousy name, Metalworks Frost form Sally Hansen. It's a metallic royal purple with faint purple sparkles that are only actually discernible in direct sunlight. It's perdy.  ::)

Sunday, yes I'm slow, I know.  ::) I wore a braid with my black beaded beak clip. It was wicked windy yet wonderfully warm. Which it will also be again tomorrow, when we perhaps, *gasp* hit 60°.  :o  8-) It'll probably snow a foot next.  ;D

4 days later and my manicure is still holding up.  :o :-? Huh, wish I could explain it.  ::)

Air dried towels suck.  :P They get all hard and crunchy. Our stupid dryer has a part that needs to be replaced.  >:( Luckily my mom ordered it today so soon we shall have a working dryer with nice "soft" towels.  ::)

Wash Day

Wash Day was yesterday. With a C-COW-C and added MM when wet before ABS and SEM and then again dry. I think the only thing missing is the shampoo to go with my moisturizing conditioner. Adding that I think will help close the gap. Because my hair's a bit dry, not oppressively so like it was prior to the new conditioner and MM. Will have to see if I can get some this weekend. Which yes I realize is Valentine's Day.  :P Nothing says love like celebrating the martyrdom of a saint.  :-? ::)

Today it's in the low 60's, sunny, and with a lovely breeze.  8-) Tomorrow will be in the low 40's with 30mph winds and snow flurries... and yet equally nice.  ;D However they do say there is a potential for some thunderstorms tonight as the cold front comes through.  :P Me no likey thunderstorms.  :P

I like a good sugar coma as much as the next gal.  :D However I don't really care for flowers, they always die too fast.  :'( And glittery hearts can have their place. But it's jewelery and chocolate for me.  ::)

Alright yesterday was supposed to be a T-C-COW-C. But I skipped the treatment due to laziness. Hair is no worse off.  :-? Must mean hair hates said treatment.  ::) Leave ins were MM, ABS, SEM. And MM and BBAB today.

Today I discovered a hairstyle that makes my hair look like an attachment. It's hilarious.  :D I put it a highish ponytail, then took a small section braided it and wrapped it around the holder. Then braided the length. It totally looked like I had fake hair on.  ;D I'm going to love this the longer it gets.  ::) ;D ;)

Finally got my moisturizing shampoo so we'll see if it seals the deal.

Nails are finally a disaster.  :P The polish started chipping Wednesday. Which was surprisingly longer than I figured it would make it.  8-)

Wash Day, Hair Revolution?
So yesterday as I was preparing my "shampoo cocktail" for my C-COW-C it hit me again. My hair has become high maintenance!  :o I've mentioned it before. But I was standing there and thinking I'm making "shampoo cocktails" doing C-COW-C's, deep treatments, vinegar rinses... who's hair is this?  :o So most will say I've gone bananas but I've decided to resort back to the old measures that worked perfectly well on my hair making it much the same as it is now with a lot less effort. So for yesterday's wash day all I did was wash and condition with my moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. No leave ins. And be prepared to faint... I used my plastic cushion brush to detangle my dry hair today. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0011.gif And I would like to add that I heard less breakage using that brush then my usual comb.  :-?  8-) I smoothed it with my BB and it's just as soft and shiny as ever.  ::) So yes looks like my low maintenance hair is back!  8-) I've only been unconventional at best. I mean growing long hair is pretty unconventional these days, so why should my long hair behaviors be conventional?  :D ::) Say what you want, my hair does seem to give an f*** one way or the other.  ;D

Tis snowing today.  8-) Ain't sticking but it's still pretty to watch. Although I dread the high winds tomorrow.  :P

;D I so love the way you put things.

You'll probably find out through this spectacular long hair journey that many of the "rules" of caring for it are utter nonsense. Brushes, cones and colour can be used; and for heaven's sake, hair can be washed! So long as your products and practices are safe and low impact, you can pretty much do whatever you want. *hugs* And enjoy your snow, my love.

Snow was a pathetic dusting.  :P Which turned into cold rain. *sigh* It's probably the end of the snow season out this way.  :'( Tomorrow will be cold with more high winds.  >:( Rain is expected on Friday. Oh well I guess it's time to get in my cold/raw/rainy mood.  ;)

Over the weekend my father finally manged to figure out how to put the dryer back together. Hallelujah for fluffy towels!  ;D

Yesterday was wash day just shampoo, conditioner, comb out and air dry. Hair only needs a spritz of MM when the air's dry, like it's been. Going back to brushing to detangle my hair has been great. It's back to having that incredibly soft feeling it used to have.  8-) :)

Was exceedingly windy this morning, and fairly warm in the low 60's. I got home just as the rain started to fall. :P Total bummer. Wind has died down and now there's a nice steady rain. Looks like it won't be much of a storm over the weekend. Figures. ::)

Ooh, girlie, that sounds like dream weather to me! And low 60's is warm?! :o

We have both Claire's and Icing.

For this time of year 60's are very above average our highs are supposed to be in the mid 40's.

We finally finally finally got our big snowstorm!  :D There's about a foot of snow out there, with blowing winds and near white out conditions at times. I just learned this is the biggest snow we've had since 2003. I cannot wait to go out in it!

Saturday was wash day with my lovely new low maintenance routine.

Hair was worn again in a flipped ponytail braided on Sunday as I had to wear a hat.

Plan A has fallen through, who knew horses has MRSA? :o :P Well have no fear because on Friday Plan B fell into my lap.  8-) The odds are about the same, but I have hope, there's no life with out hope so I will continue to hope for the best because I don't really function well otherwise.

Now It's Warm

Yes our 14" of snow has melted, and it's now 70° outside.  :P It got a little too warm too fast and it almost feels hot.  :P Well when you go from 25° on Tuesday to 70° five short days later it is a little much.

So due to time constraints I only washed my hair once this week. It felt dirty yesterday.  :P Ah well not like I have pretenses to keep up at the moment.  ::) ;D But yes wash condition, with some MM because it has been D-R-Y.  :P Hair was worn in a simple ponytail today. I need hair pins.  >:(

Ironically enough I purchased a pair of flats that I wanted several months ago, but couldn't find in the store, for $5 clearance.  8-) :-? My question is where were they before? But I'm not one to knock a discount.  ;D ;)

Shopping

So today turned into a good surprise shopping expedition. I got two new shirts and a new tissue-weight cardigan on deep discount.  8-) Another bottle of conditioner. A cute bean bag GSD puppy paperweight, clearance.  8-) And a new candy pink nail polish, because alas my last one was finally too old to be usable.  :P The nail polish was 70 cents!  :o Yep Walgreens has all Wet N' Wild cosmetics that are 99 cents on sale for 70 cents until April 10th, it's Glamour magazine's 70th anniversary. Yes Angel they had a black and an eggplant purple that was almost black, it was that dark. Don't know if you have Walgreens in SoCal though.  :-/

Yesterday I had wash day, which somehow wound up being a week from the last time again.  :-? Confusing stuff.  ::) Next bottles of shampoo and conditioner will be targeted for spring/summer a.k.a frizz combating.

After our brief warm up it's been colder again.  March is always so wacko.  ::)

;D Of course we have Walgreens in SoCal! But I avoid the cheapie polishes like the plague.
My personal fave "midnight meets purple" shades are Sally Hansen Salon formula in Pat On The Black and Deepest Of Violets. Maybelline also makes one, but the name escapes me. Of course, it was OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark that started the trend, but I now avoid OPI like the plague as well. ::)

Oh, and a coat of metallic purple over a coat of black can also look quite striking. ;)

I've come to the conclusion all nail polish sucks so it doesn't matter to me.  ::)

Wash Day

Wash day yesterday. Nothing out of the ordinary. Haven't used a leave in other than MM in a while. Don't have time, and they don't make any difference.  :P ::) So hair was practically uncontrollable today.  >:( So I just wrestled it into a braid and happily forgot about it. Totally can't wait to get a new shampoo or conditioner in the next month or two. Hydrating my @$$.  :D

The other day I was twisting my hair up into one of my giant jaw clips. I adjusted it and heard a crack.  :o It broke.  :P Now I shall have to go to Dollar Tree and get another one.  ::) Their hair safe their a $1, yeah, win win.  8-) I'm just surprised it broke like that though.  :-?

If your leave-in's aren't making a difference, you're using the wrong ones, dahling! Try something richer, or combine your current leave-in's with a teeny bit of oil or serum. You should never need more than 2 leave-in's total.

Unfortunately I don't have richer conditioner at the moment, can't buy any and the leave ins that I do have lying around suck.  :P Oh well I guess I can only hope for higher humidity and a dew point above 2°.  :P ::) Spring humidity would certainly help.

Of course, I think it's relative to what you're purchasing. I mean getting cheap appliances or electronics will equate to junk without question. However there's no justification for $200 jeans when a $20-$40 pair will hold up just as well. Given that I paid only $1 for them I'm surprised they made it this long, so they were probably worth it. This has been Tanai's "Is It Worth It 101" Lesson for the day.  ;D :D

Wore hair in a braided loop secured with a purple jaw clip, and accented with my lone (they were a pair) purple and rhinestone butterfly mini clamp. I'll find it when I clean my room... along with anything else that has gone missing  ;D ...which will probably happen when we move.  ::)

It's been freaking cold the past few nights with the low making it to 16° the other night. I'm not a fan of warm weather but even I get tired of being cold. ::) That and I'm just sick of the flyaways. Bring on the frizzys!  ;D

;D Welcome to my world, hunnay. ::) Have you tried oils? Hand lotion? Dryer sheets? A few tricks from out in the sticks. ::)

You have the sticks in Socal?  :o Hunnay I'm in the sticks, it took us until 2005 to get a pizza joint, we just recently got a gas station and will be getting a CVS.  ;D  ::) When my parents moved here there was only a small general store and one traffic light past the tiny post office. :o Ask me about the size of my graduating class and you may just faint.  ;D ;)
My hair hates oil, I'm low on lotion, and dryer sheets can't combat the static of all my hair.  ;D

So how do you know you've gotten the driest air of the season? When the dewpoint drops to 1°, the humidity 21%, you can now clearly grasp SoCalian dryness, and your hair craved a ton of conditioner last night.  ::) Oh and my nose has been bleeding, and my hair, after spraying it with a heavier batch of MM that I whipped up (the same conditioner but the new one seems slightly less watery  :-?) and two minutes after brushing it in order it manged to puff and knot itself up into a mess.  >:( :o Another application of MM and a struggle to get the brush through my hair, I hastily braided it and have gratefully forgotten about it.  ::) :P

Bring on the rain!

Yup, it sucks what the weather can do to hair...and skin. :P

And yes, there are sticks in SoCal. Quite a lot of them, actually!

A fair example. This is very close to where I live. ;D And our humidity today was 15%.

That's a freeway.  ;D You have to drive 20 minutes from where I live to find one of those.  ;D And yes not much town activity along them mostly exits and roadkill.  ;D :D ::) So even the sticks in SoCal are more developed.  :D

Wash Day

Wash day was yesterday. Humidity's a wee bit higher so hair just feels dry and gets a lot less poofy, but is still problematic.  :P Finally had a shower cap fail last week. So I'm down to two.

Today's style was supposed to be a herringbone all the way down but I still can't get the hang of the tail part. So I stopped at the base of my neck and ended it in an english braid. It's fine either way.

Got new mascara today, had a coupon to boot.  8-) Finally can throw out my old one, it was starting to act funny, which is usually the sign that its been around too long.

Rain was nice last night, we've got some more lined up for tomorrow ending Sunday morning.  8-)

I have decided to again embrace longer nails, which are still called short, 1/4" out or less from the tip is considered short. I never go past 1/4". They're "me" so I shall retain them to the best of my abilities. So of course I decide to start when they're peeling.  :P ::) So I coated them with nail strengthening polish, and I'll make sure I get enough protein and we should be fine.  8-)

Weekend Style & Wild Weather

So yesterday, hairstyle was a flipped ponytail with tail braided accented with a rhinestone and sterling silver hair comb. *grumbles unintelligibly about needing hair pins*

I've already had one nail peel off and break.  :P >:( And they're only an 1/8" out.  :P

Gadzooks we had a bad thunderstorm yesterday evening. In terms of precipitation it was the worst I've ever been in. With quarter-half dollar size hail.  :o In terms of wind/rain/lightning it wasn't overly bad. The "icing" was the tornado warning that accompanied it. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0008.gif It's freakishly early for us to get such bad storms, and we only were about 60° yesterday. This is going to be a long season. If you want me you'll know where to find me. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0016.gif

Holy crow!  Reminds me of a few years back when we got a wicked storm.  It was the tail end of a hurricane and the trees were bending and the house was shaking!  I put my bunny in a basket and wrapped up the bird cage and took them down to basement. I ran out into the yard gabbed my bonsai tree and dashed back just before it hit.  Poor bunny was trembling and so was I.  He plastered himself against my chest and dug his nails in.  The hail was bouncing off the house.  The sky had turned green and all I could think of was tornado!   When it was all over there were golf ball hail all over the grown, and some broken windows in other houses.  Freaky Canadian weather!

:o Scary stuff! We've had hurricanes hit here, but luckily we only ever seem to get torrential rains and wind. Our thunderstorms tend to be worse then the hurricanes.  ::) And they're calling for more on Friday.  :P

Catch Up And Such

Wash day was Monday and yesterday. Nothing exciting. Current products suck like a Hoover so that's where we're at.  :P Hair also decided not to grow last month.  >:(

Today's style was braided and contained under my last large tortoise shell jaw clip as it was windy and rainy.

Speaking of that, got stuck in the unmentionable Wal-Mart, which is now only useful for cheap slippers, and nail tools,  ::) during a thunderstorm. It was raining very, very, very hard. And thundered occasionally too but was mostly raining like the end of the world.  ::) Meanwhile back home it stormed for two straight hours.  :o How glad was I too miss that.

Speaking of nails. Alas another one broke.  :P Quel surprise.  ::)

So my birthday is Sunday.  :-[ I will be making a cheesecake of some sort for Easter/my birthday/my dad's birthday (which is today) next weekend, forgot to get a recipe this weekend.  ::) Well at least they're forecasting beautiful weather, mid 60's and sunny.  8-)

Thanks Angel.  :) And it was blasé as all my birthdays have been for about the past decade.  ::)

So Saturday, in what I would describe as a fit of insanity ;D ::), in desperation to deal with my ever drying hair I used some of my remaining KO oil.  :P Not only did it do nothing but my hair is now greasy and dry today.  :P I have finally gotten the message though. The message my hair has been sending me for the past three and a half years. You hate natural products. I get it. I shall now return to the last known working product, which would have last been used when I was in high school.  :o I know I'm a little slow, but hey at least I eventually figure these things out right?  ;D :D

So hair yesterday was some more of the same. A flipped ponytail with the tail braided and accented for the first time this season with my flower/enamel and crystal barrette.

Twas warm yesterday and tomorrow it will be cold.  :P Easter forecasts are contradictory at best.  :-/

Oh yes and another nail has been lost to the cause.  :P And I spilled nail polish remover in the bathroom while removing my last pedicure color.  :o :P :-[

Of course dahling.  ;)

So catching up Thursday was wash day, with nothing to report there. Friday I wore my hair in a braid.  :P Dullsville.  ::) Got some more shampoo and conditioner in the stuff my hair likes.  8-) Saw some stuff I can't afford.  ::) Bought some moisturizer. Will be getting mousse, seeing as I now have chronic "pancake" head.  :P

Saturday I just tied my hair in a low ponytail and stuffed it under my denim newsboy hat, it was windy and rainy, and I wasn't going anywhere particularly nice.  ::) Came home and made a chocolate cheesecake which turned out to be a lousy recipe.  :P

Easter was basically Christmas again. Same outfit, same hairstyle. Except it was colder and way windy.  :o I was freezing, my clothes were thin and the wind was really cold. Though I did manage to smirk at the dumb teenage girls who wore spring dresses and no coats.  ::) ;D It's been freaking cold for far too long. Wash Day

So yesterday was my first wash day with my "new" (read: old, that my hair used to love but I foolishly got away from and have finally realized to come back to.  ::)) shampoos and conditioners. I'm using two, one for body and one moisturizing. My hair is already a lot better.  8-) I even whipped up a MM with the two conditioners so the fragrance would match, that and they other one didn't actually work.  ::) Speaking of fragrance, combining the two my hair smells like strawberry champagne.  :o 8-) :D It's incredible and delicious even if they weren't working I'd keep using them just for the fragrance.  ;D ::)

Also I'm quitting the biotin. I can't stand the overly thick poofy mass my hair has become since I started using it. I'm even beginning to believe conditioners have trouble penetrating it all.  :P :-/ So growth rates be damned, they were never consistent anyways.  ::) I'm wholeheartedly looking forward to controllable hair in a month or two.  8-) :)

Wash Day, Stupidity, and A First

So after my wash day on Monday, I being a complete moron.  ;D ::) Tried, again, to use the natural (insert V8 had bonk here) root boost I had lying around. *Dodges incoming bonks*  :D Yes of course I knew I shouldn't have bothered, and of course it didn't work.  ::) Just made my hair greasy and gunky.  :P

Yesterday wash all the gunk out.  8-) Hair is looking better. Feels softer, still dry, due to low humidity and too much density I think.  :P However it smells wonderfully like strawberry champagne so really I'll deal with minor "issues."  ::) Today's style was a Dutch braid.

Bought some mousse today. Should work it was the same stuff I used to use awhile ago, before I became as exceedingly lazy as I am today.  ::)

It's freaking beautiful out there today it's about 70° and tomorrow is supposed to be in the low 70's.  8-) Then we cool down to the upper 50's and get some rain.  8-) Finally spring weather I can enjoy.  ;)

I got my first hair compliment today. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0044.gif http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/ashamed0007.gif I was honestly wondering how long it would have to grow before someone took notice of the fact that it's longer than most and is of a color that actually occurs in nature.  ;D ::) A lady behind us in the checkout asked me if I braided my own hair or did my mother do it. I told her I did. She couldn't believe that I could get it so neat on the back of my own head. And she said I had beautiful hair.

Believe it or not the only line my hair likes is Vo5.  ::) Combining their Extra Body and the Moisture Milk Strawberries 'N Cream makes that wonderful fragrance.  :D And my hair's improving already.  8-) Yes my hair is classless I know.  ::)

;D Sometimes quite true.  ;)

Righto then. Hair was simply in a braid on Sunday with my crystal butterfly barrette. Le sigh.  ::)

Yesterday was wash day. Hair continues to improve with each wash.  :D

It was freaking cold, windy and rainy yesterday.  :o :D So after freezing one's "assets" off it was hot chocolate and a blanket for me.  ;D 8-) Today will be in the 60's tomorrow more showers then we hit the 80's over the weekend. We're having spastic weather with a time delay.  ;D ::)

So I heard.  :P After today's supposed showers we'll be getting our taste of summer as it will stay in the mid 80's through at least early next week.  :P Luckily we won't make 90° this April. We did in 2002, 96° to be exact. The only difference between that here and in SoCal is yours is a dry heat, the humidity was like 85%.  :P And I had to be out in it for Freshman Bio class.  :P
Still it will be too warm too fast just the same. I mean it was 44° Monday and by Saturday it'll be 86°. We never get Spring anymore, we just go directly into Summer.  :P >:(

I had heard tale of it.  ;D

Thursday, wash day, hair continues to improve. Still needs MM though.

On Friday I wore my hair in a mid ponytail with the length half braided and a section wrapped around the hair ties. Went in search of a hair product that I still can't locate.  :PI've got three more places yet to check so hopefully I'll be able to find it. Went shopping for shorts, came home with a tank top and lingerie.  :-? Yeah not sure how it happened myself.  :D

Today's style was a braided bun held up by my lone pair of hair sticks. Today I found hair pins!  :o :D 8-) *does a happy dance* Finally I have hair pins! My hair is now currently being held up successfully by them in a cinnamon bun as we speak.  8-)

All my nails have been cut back seeing as half of them have wound up broken.  :P

The summer weather is here, yesterday it was 88° today looks as though it may hit 90° and tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed be hot as well. It hasn't been this hot here at this time in 7yrs.  :P >:( Looking forward to showers on Wednesday, hopefully sans thunderstorms and any potential dangers they may bring.  :P

One Quick Installment

Alright, wash day was yesterday. Nothing really to say on that front.

Alas and alack, we hit 90° yesterday.  >:( However we've been trying SoCalianesque heat as our humidity has yet to be above 35%. Although there is a chance of thunderstorms this evening.  :P :-/

So since the air is exceedingly dry, my hair is exceedingly flyaway and poofy.  :P However a product purchase on Friday should render the situation.  8-)

...That bird is still banging the window... he's (like it could be otherwise  ;D ::)) been at it for about two weeks... :-? :P... the room where the computer is located is right above the window it attacks so if the window's open that's all I keep hearing.  ::) Sheesh!

So this week is Derby week. If you live in this country and have no idea what I'm talking about I suggest staying far away from me because I'm not only speechless but getting ready to throw something at your head.  ;D :D Needless to say I shall be very busy, so this will be my last posting on here until Sunday. Wish me luck, I need to make some money!  ;)

I'm not sure there were any too be found.  :-/ Or don't worry I would've.  ;)

So Thursday was wash day. Nothing to mention there.
Friday was one of those day when you know you should've stayed in bed and tried again tomorrow.  :P It was an exceedingly annoying day.  >:(
Attempted to wear hair in a Chinese bun. Hair refused to cooperate.  >:( I got angry at it and at my sad pathetic little purse brush.  >:( Settled on a braid which wouldn't cooperate either.  >:( Couldn't find decent shorts anywhere.  >:( I refuse to be a hoochie.  ;D Found a pair of sneakers for the rain finally.  :) Felt considerably annoyed and grouchy about the stupidity of others in general.  ;D ::) Went on a hair rampage and bought a cream I was looking for, a deep treatment, a styling product, and a new no static brush, which works great btw.  :D Bought heel liners for new sneakers as I got a blister, they won't stick.  >:( Spent the whole day feeling like http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/mad0050.gif. I'm sure there's more I forgot.  :P

Yesterday was the aforementioned day. I hit nothing.  :P My mother however picked the derby winner.  8-) So yes still an infinitely better day then Friday.

Today it's raining and cool.  8-) Finally found a pair of decent shorts, and a pair of spring pumps for the aforementioned rain.  8-) The mousse doesn't look like it gets rid of my pancake head  :-? but it helps with the haven't been washed greaseies.  8-) The new styling product works pretty well, my hair twisted into a bun quite quickly and easily. However I am incapable of keeping it in a bun at my nape, no matter what kind of pins I have in.  :P ::)

Thankfully it was completely dull in comparison.  8-)

Drear:Huh, imagine that. I feel for ya, because I had first hand experience.  :P

Forgot to mention the woman I saw on Friday. She had knee length hair with fairy tale ends.  :o It would've been so much more impressive if the ends hadn't been ratty.  :P Trims make all the difference.  ;)

If my nails were an 1/8" past my finger tips I'd be surprised. But even at that pathetic length I manged to break three.  >:( :P So I cut them all back as far as I could and painted them in the new candy pink polish I got last month. Which lasted a day before chipping.  ::) Albeit I only did 1 coat.  ::)

Wash Day

Had to clarify yesterday. As I product build up.  :P The natural clarifying shampoo I have left over is the only natural product my hair likes. However it's not quite as affordable as conventional.  ::) I will be changing product lines yet again.  ::) After using the deep treatment, I bought Friday, yesterday I liked how soft it made my hair and the incredibly sexy floral scent it left behind.  :D It's not too big a problem. I'm almost out of the one conditioner, because it was from awhile ago, the other shampoo technically isn't mind. And I can blend the rest for a bit.  ;D :D So some more hair shopping this weekend.  8-) :D

We've been pulling a Seattle as of late. It's been cool and rainy here since Friday.  :o It's supposed to warm up a bit over the coming days, which will bring thunderstorm potential.  :P I'd rather have it cool and rainy.  8-) I just wish the house was warmer.  :-/

Over The Weekend
So Saturday was warm, but was finally rain free after we tried pulling a Noah's Ark.  ::) Wore my hair in a ponytail at the crown then put another hair tie in halfway down. Bought large size bottles of my new shampoo and conditioner.  8-) They're 33.8oz each!  :o Should last me a month....  ;D :D lol just kidding,  ;) I figure 3 months at least. Got some Lindt truffles the white chocolate on white chocolate w/cocoa pieces.  8-) Those things are freaking awesome.  :D Went to the dollar store to get another pair of large jaw clips. Hey the last one's lasted 3 years. Some things really are only worth a dollar.  ::)

Yesterday was simply beautiful in the upper 60's with wonderful fresh wind.  8-) Sigh enjoy the spring, next thing I know it'll be 90° again.  :P Hair was twisted in a partial low bun with the remaining length secured by an aforementioned jaw clip. I accented it with my pair of crystal flower bobby pins.

Hair is flying away again.  :P Guess it doesn't like VO5 as much as I thought.  :-/ Luckily new products will be used Tuesday.  8-)

Thinking of removing nail polish some time this week, it's chipping bad and looking crappy.  :P

That stupid bird is still outside the window.  >:( ::) très annoying.

So it'll be lovely weather all week, until Saturday with a chance of thunderstorms.  :P C'est ma vie. And that's about as good as my French is.  ::)

Wash Day

So first wash day with the new Aussie Moist line. Hair loves it.  8-) It's soft, shiny... and a little dry at the ends due to our sudden low humidity.  :P >:( No worries whipped up a new MM with the conditioner and I'm good to go.  8-)

Anti frizz leave in creme seems to be working well helps keep away the flyways, frizzies and coarseness.  8-)

Life is good when you're hair is happy.  8-) ;D ;)

Catch Up

So was wash day Friday. Nothing to report there.

Saturday hair was just worn in a braid. Because A: I'm lazy. And B: I wasn't really out that long. Got some more of those Lindt truffles milk chocolate with a white chocolate center.  8-) It was humid and disgusting and we had thunderstorms Saturday night.  :P

Sunday hair was worn in the double bun style. Pins held well, just needed some bobby pins for the ends that like to poke out.  ::) It was freaking cold, we just barely made it to 60° which was quite a contrast from just the day before.

Nails are now neat, nude, and growing... for now.  ::)
Hair has lost all of it's Biotin induced poofyness.  8-)
We have a frost advisory for tonight, and by Thursday it will be in the 80's.  :P

Stuff

There's never really much for me to say in these things.  :-/ That and I waste enough of my time doing other things so I post when I post.  ::)

Tuesday became a WTC after we had several low humidity days in a row which had made my hair completely dry and flyaway.  :P

Now however we have gone back into humidity.  :P Which causes an equal amount of problems.  ::) On Friday it was just a regular wash day. Wherein I discovered that my anti-frizz cream doesn't do jack.  :P

Saturday's style was a braided loop held up by a medium jaw clip.

Purchased a new bottle of humidity spray after determining that my old one was bottled when I was 8.  :o I've been noticing that it's not as effective as it should be.  ::)

I think I need to buy and actual leave in conditioner spray. I don't think my MM concoction is cutting it. Oh the joys of length, my hair can now mange to be dry when it's humid.  ::)

Two of my nails have managed to break already and they're only an 1/8" past the tips.  ::)

I feel pretty http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/mad0214.gif and  :'(because of a lot of stupid s#!t  >:(, that and it is nearing that most "pleasant" time of the month.  :P ::)

Oof

So yesterday... some day.  ::)

The weather was fabulous. It was windy, rainy and in the low 50's!  :o 8-)

However we were supposed to have the cable guy come out for a problem and he never showed.  >:( And there were two outages yesterday afternoon and this morning. One a car hit a pole. This morning the garbage truck brought the lines down.  ::) Ironically enough they were in the same location.  ;D

Well the molar I have a cavity in part of the tooth broke off yesterday.  :P :o So I have to get it filled Friday morning. Whee.  ::) It's fine other then the sharp point that jabs me in the tongue when I chew.  :P That's the joy of having parents who never got you dental and now I can't afford dental. But my mom finally got me covered under a plan. Too little too late I always say.  :P

Yesterday was wash day. Tried the MM when my hair was wet then again when it's dry it's better. Awaiting the end of the useless anti-frizz product which seriously does bupkiss.  ::) Though with all my length that shouldn't take too long to come.  ;D

I haven't been using my anti humidity spray because I'm not out and about, though my hair was seriously bad this morning and it's really not even that humid.  :-/ If this continues I may have to use it even at home just to get it all under control.  ::) :P

Major Catch Up

So been having a hard time trying to get on this site to post, until now. Most likely due to the joys of dial up.  ::)

So... let's see I last posted... on the 27th.

Friday was my wash day as always. I had tried the humidity spray and wound up using way too much because it was spraying poorly.  >:( So I used my still remaining natural clarifying shampoo to get the gunk out of my hair. That still remains the only natural product I think my hair actually likes.  ::)

Found out on Friday that I need a root canal.  :o http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0015.gif However when my mom called to make the appointment yesterday they mentioned that the dentist said I may not need one.  :) Yeah. I've never needed major dental work and I'd like to keep it that way.

Saturday we went to a farmers market and got some fantastic strawberries.  8-) They have tomatoes there that are practically the size of my head.  :o Certainly better looking produce then one finds in the grocery store, tends to be cheaper too.  ;)

Saturday's style was a Dutch braid, was meant to be French but dyslexic me forgot which way produced which.  ::)

Sunday's style was the ever classic flipped ponytail, low, with the tail braided and accented with one of my sterling silver combs.

My hair has been acting completely out of control lately. It seems to hate anything I use. It's become very poofy and dry with the low humidity and it's twice as poofy when it's humid.  :P :-/ I used some of my leftover BBAB that I had pawned off on my mom to try to do something with the dryness. But as with 99.9% of natural ingredients it left my hair horribly greasy instead of improved.  :P

So today I clarified, used DWV to correct my PH, shampooed again, used my deep treatment then standard conditioner. Followed by the useless anti-frizz that I have to get rid of. I have no idea if it did anything of use or not.  :-/

I'm also currently trying to get my part out of my hair. I've parted it the same side since I grew my bangs out at 12.  :-[ I look in the mirror and it looks the same and it's bugging me. I can't part it in the middle because I look too young. I can't part it on the other side because it looks horrible. I have no idea how I'm going to coax it to stay.  :-/ Suggestions of products (preferably not totally natural) would be welcomed.

Four nails have no broken. And just when they were getting to the proper length too.  >:( :-[

We've been having fantabulous weather up till today, where it's become humid.  :P However it won't last and will improve again by the weekend.  8-) So far our late spring/early summer is looking quite nice.  8-)

Tomorrow, when my hair dries, I'll measure. If it's grown a 1/2" I'll be at waist length.  8-) :)

The way I'm handling my own hair I probably shouldn't be giving advice. ::)  I like to keep my nails short regardless of whether it's fashionable or not.  I never got the hang of nail scissors and use the clippers most men use so flat over 1/4" is the max length.  Not finger tip length though.

Very true Melusine, seeing as I get Glamour myself.  ;) But I'm very unconventional and longer nails have always been my thing. With my preferred length being 3/16" past the finger tip. Now if they'd all get there at the same time...  ::) ;D

Drear: I feel like that about my hair care routine.  ;) ::)

So today was measure day. And I'm now sporting waist length hair.  8-) I tried using a drop of AKO that we still have lying around, we're out of JO I believe. I used just the drop it didn't have any negative effects but didn't have any positive ones either.  :P :-/

Hair is constantly trying to part itself in the center.  ::) Which I find really ironic because I haven't parted it there in years and then only briefly.  ;D :D

Sorry about your dental woes. A few years ago, my dentist told me that I might need a root canal also, but it ended up being just a filling.

;D Thanks Angel.  :)

So what was it... yes later on Tuesday it started raining and got cooler and all day Wednesday we had a hard time hitting 60° and it was raining and windy.  8-) Nice stuff then we had some beautiful late spring/early summer (whichever you prefer.) days in the 70's with low humidity. Then it got humid and disgusting then a couple nice days and today it's back to humid and disgusting, and that seems to be the pattern we will be in and out of over the next week.  :P

Friday I did another WTC didn't make much of a difference. Hair needs more.  :P So I just read in one of my magazines that Indian women do weekly coconut oil scalp massages to keep their hair smooth and sleek. So yes anti natural hair product Tanai will be trying this tomorrow.  ::) ;D Hey I'm desperate this stuff is out of control.  ;D ::)

Sunday wore my hair in just a braid as I was a bit crunched for time and picked up the aforementioned coconut oil. Oy vey this out to be good.  ::)

The Hair Saga Continues

Monday I wound up doing a CO because I got scuzzy from exercising. Same thing yesterday. The first I tried with some of the leftover conditioner I have lying around the second was with my deep treatment. Neither of which seemed to do anything of use.  :-/ :'( Tuesday was regular wash day with my first coconut oil treatment that I left on for an hour. I'm not sure if I used enough.  :-/ But there's no difference. Been using one single drop of AKO after any sort of a wash helps in the most infinitesimal way or I'm merely imagining things.  ::) Probably the latter.  ;D

So I don't really know if the coconut oil, given time and using more, will work or not. Really running out of ideas on this one. And I'm quite frankly glad I wear my hair up all the time because it's a completely embarrassing knotty puffball otherwise.  :P :( :'(

Weather's psycho again. We had bad thunderstorms Tuesday morning, then it's been very humid and warm. Today we're in the low 60's with rain.  :-? Yeah I don't really get it either.

All my nails are finally the same length.  8-) :o :D So today I did a French manicure.  8-) Now their long and perty.  ;D

Actually us getting into the 60's at all at this time of year is weird. Our average is in the uppers 70's and we usually stay there or into the 80's. Trust me I can't easily recall a time where I wore a sweater in June and was comfortable.  ;D :D Something's up. LOL  :D

So today. Started out odd...
So we're driving into town from the sticks. And the traffic starts backing up like work traffic. Someone's going only 40mph and the speed limit is 55mph. They do this for sixteen miles. When we finally come to a place where we can pass them, we've been thinking must be some 900 year old fogey, turns out it's a twenty something girl.  :o Even I went 65mph on the bypass with only my permit.  ::) I was like w...t...f...?  :-? She even used her breaks on this not too steep hill, must have been scared to go over 40mph.  ;D

Later on it rained like the end of the world... It rained and rained and rained. There was street flooding and everything. My jeans totally got soaked at one point.  :P And my feet were wet.  >:( And I was cold.  :P It rained for three hours over the same area so we were out in it for quite a bit.  :P It wasn't the heaviest rain I had ever seen but it was the heaviest rain I had ever been out in.

Yesterday was wash day with a WTC which I'm still unsure if it does anything.  :-/ Used humidity spray which helped a bit got hair up in a ponytail at crown then did a rope braid and tucked it up and secured with another hairtie. Used the AKO again makes a small difference I guess. It seems to help with the dry feeling a bit.  :-/

When I got home I changed into sweats and socks and warms slippers because my feet were so cold. Then I had hot chocolate with some cranberry bread and peach butter from the farmer's market. I can't believe I had hot chocolate in June.  :o Now that I know is a first. That and I'm still in my sweats and am comfortable.  :o

Just hope I don't get sick from being wet and cold.  :P

Wash Day

Alright Sunday I wore my hair in a braided bun because I forgot I had wanted to try something else.  ::)

Yesterday was wash day with another round of the coconut oil. Needless to say I've neglected to mention that coconut oil smells like vomit as I'm washing it out. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/sick0001.gif Thankfully the scent of my shampoo and conditioner cover it up nicely.  :) It does seem to be working though. Hair feels softer and seems more manageable. Albeit we have slightly lower humidity so it will be tested in the coming days. Hopefully I may have finally found an answer.  :)

My manicure lasted one day before it chipped off.  :P I knew the brand was awful and yet I bought it anyways.  ::) Needless to say they will be cleaned off and left bare as usual.  ::)

So more rain and cool weather for the next few days starting tomorrow. We had storms a couple days ago.  :P Heard tell that we'll be stuck in this lousy pattern until July.  >:( :P This looks likely to be the first June in at least ten years where we won't hit 90°.  :o I mean I hate the heat but wearing sweaters and longsleeves is a bit absurd for June.  ::)

Mmm, hair vomit. ;D

It is weird being able to wear long sleeves and jackets in June, but I'm certainly not complaining! ;)

Update

So Friday was wash day. A typical WTC. Hair's hanging in there, but still has a ways to go.

Sunday I did a flipped ponytail with the length braided. Used humidity spray because it's yucky out there.  :P Hair feels dry already.  :P Bought some more deep treatment. It's getting a workout around here these days seeing as my mom's using too.  ::)

It's been raining and cool for what feels like forever now.  :P Yesterday did turn out pretty nice which was surprising. But notice as soon as I start to complain... they're forecasting 89° for Saturday.  :o >:( Me and my big mouth.  ::)

Tomorrow is another coconut oil treatment. Hair is improving each time so we'll see how this one goes.

Updation

So last week I started doing proper CWC's. See before I was still shampooing the length. When I read about them again I realized I was doing them wrong.  ::) Quel suprise.  ::) So after the coconut oil I did a CWC and a again on Friday, which was actually a CWTC. Hair is still as dry as ever but I don't think shampoo directly on the length helps things any.  :P Oiled Wednesday, Friday and twice yesterday.

Yesterday's style was a bun.

Bought some Shea Butter to mix with my deep treatment and I've started using it on it's own. It made my hair feel a lot better when I tried it yesterday however it was just as dry this morning and it needed some more.  :P Something tells me more then my treatments and leave ins need to change...

Speaking of which I know what shampoo and conditioner I want to try next.  :D Albeit I have to use up the remaining Aussie I recently purchased,  :P hopefully shouldn't take more than two months.  ::)

Bought some hangers yesterday to finally get rid of the last of the old yucky wire hangers still living in my closet.  :P >:( Also got some more Lindt.  8-)

Time To Update Again

So routine is modified slightly again. It includes occasional CO washes, like one last week, due to exercising in the blasted humidity.  >:( :P Coconut oil routine Tuesday. Have been using AKO or SB (shea butter) on the length. I tried it just out of the shower but it didn't make any difference.  :P ::) And Thursday I added SB to my deep treatment for the first time.  :D My hair loves it!  8-) It's looking better all the time and since Thursday I've only needed to oil then length instead of SB.  8-) Things are looking up.  ;)

Friday's style was a French braid, which the tail wouldn't stay braided.  >:( :P Probably because I forgot to use product.  ::)

Bought some more Lindt.  8-)

Had to cut my nails back as too many of them have broken.  >:( :P

We finally got rid of the stupid rainy pattern which was no longer fun as it had become very warm and very humid.  :P Which meant our "rain" was mainly thunderstorms.  :P However as of yesterday, and through the rest of the week, we'll have fabulous summer weather with low humidity, a pleasant breeze, and temps in the upper 70's low 80's and no rain.  8-) Yep if you must have summer this is the weather you want.  8-) :)

Oh and I made $11.80!  :D So I do know what I'm doing.  ;D 8-) It's not much but this is only meant to be a supplemental income anyways so, any money is good.  ;) :) 8-)

So What's Been Going On...

Tuesday was the fabulously lousy smelling coconut oil treatment. Seriously wonder if my hair likes it, it still needs to be oiled the next day as opposed to shea butter treatments.  :-/ Speaking of which that was Thursday. I think my hair likes the combination of shea butter and my deep treatment. Hmm...

Oiled everyday except Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. However hair actually needed it on Sunday so I wound up double oiling today.  ::)

Saturday's style was a braid with this dyed silk scarf, I got from one of my friends as a birthday present my sophomore year, braided into it. A girl who works at the farmer's market said it was cute.  :) ::)

Sunday's style was a bun with two rope accent braids. Got asked a question by a I guess you could say cute, I've gotten extremely picky with age ::), guy at church.   ::) I find 90% of people very aggravating, and as opposed to most gals I find guys noticing me to any capacity extremely annoying as opposed to flattering.  ::) But that's me and I have my reasons.  ;) Of course afterwards my mom asked me if I had thought he was cute.  ::) Oy mom! Talk to me about five years ago when I wasn't as picky. But trust me I couldn't be his type, I'm too much for 90% of devout Catholic boys.  ;) ::) ;D Seeing as I want to do lots of things they way you're not supposed to.  ::) :Dhttp://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/innocent0009.gif

Another round of Lindts was had Saturday. Got myself some oil perfume. So now I smell loverly like Jasmine.  8-)

Went clearance rack shopping. Scored a cute green blazer for $7.20, originally $72!  :o 8-) And A 7/8 sleeve royal blue open neck polo $7.80 originally $39.50!  8-) Yep I'm the queen of the sales racks. My mom found nothing.  :D

Oddly enough Angel mentioned recently doing the same thing.  :-?I did my brows today, I tend to forget them.  :-[ Hey pain suxs end of story.  ;D

Nails are back to growing out in good order.  8-)

S'pose that's it.

The all do seem to have their moments don't they.  ::) ;D

So the week before last I had a CO wash mixed in due to heat and humidity.  :P Last week I decided to try two shea butter treatments instead of one coconut oil and one shea butter. The coconut oil thing is a pain in the @$$ and makes my hair smell horrible.  :P >:( The shea butter takes 3mins.  ::) :) Hair seems about the same. I know it's because I need better shampoo and conditioner.  ::) Must get through the lot I have first.  ::)

Had to throw out one of my shower caps. It was greasy and stretched out.  :P Down to one now will need to pick up some more soon.

Saturday's style was just a braid due to the fact that I had to shower Saturday morning.  :P >:( Thunderstorms interfered with my wash time as is typical in my world.  ::) :P  >:(

Sunday's style was called the Grecian. It was basically a ponytail at the crown with more ponytails spaced 2" down the length with the hair loosened a bit in between. I accented it with my two crystal bobby pins. One of which is missing a crystal.  >:(

Discovered that my perfume turns rancid after awhile.  :-? WTF?  :-/ Not sure what I'll get now.  :(

More Lindt Saturday.  ::)

Nails are growing nicely.  8-)

They've called this "The Year Without A Summer" because it's been so cool for the most part. Right now it's rainy and cool.  8-) They say the pattern will basically continue except it will be warmer and humid starting tomorrow. :P  However they are calling for a cold and exceedingly snowy winter!  8-) :o :) ;) *does a happy dance*

So Sunday I got knocked over outside by my psychopathic Lab. Ow. My shoulder/arm hurts like crazy. My leg's better but still bothersome.  :P >:( Damn nut job.  >:( One can only truly understand if they've owned a Lab.  ;) They're in a league of their own.  ::) ;D :D Still can't understand why they're the nation's #1 dog breed.  ::) ;D ;)

My apologies if you already know this, but perfume will turn after a long period of time.  You can make it last longer by keeping it in a dark place like a drawer or at least out of direct light.  Also, don't keep it in the bathroom because the frequent temperature and humidity changes can cause it to turn faster.  HTH

Thanks I did no about that however the problem was the perfume was turning rancid smelling while I was wearing it.  :P :-? Further confusing things. Ah well I'll get a different one eventually.

Alright lets see, hair is the same as always. Same styles, same issues, same products.

Nails are good, their long with only a couple minor breaks.

Weather has been horrible for the most part. Was nice over the weekend but for the last three weeks it been humid and today it's supposed to be 90°.  :P On the 26th we got a bad storm that knocked trees down and stuff. All's well though.

I've been to busy to write on here lately. Not because I have a life.  ::) LOL. Perhaps more because I'm getting one.  :-/ Even with plan B falling through a couple months ago. A change is coming I can feel it. It believe in it more each day as I work on my "self renewal." I guess that's what you call faith.  ;) I could explain more but I think you would have to be me in order to understand.  ::)

So there you have it the world's fastest and laziest updation. Because honestly there's really nothing to update.  ::)

Wow!  If that's the case, it sounds like that particular perfume doesn't react well with your body chemistry.  I loooove perfumes that have a lemony-citrusy smell, but it turns on me when I wear it and smells like something altogether different.  I find that perfumes that have vanilla-y/musky tones work best with my body chemistry.  I've had to try perfumes that I normally wouldn't think I would like in order to find one that smells really good on me.

Ugh how much does it suck not to be able to wear stuff that you think smells fabulous!?!  >:(

So I think the sun is frying my hair.  :P It's too dry for the humidity we're having.  :P Can't imagine what else it could be unless of course my shampoo and conditioner really do suck that much.  >:( :P ::)

Styles have been the same. Probably need a clarifying soon due to all the humidity spray I've been using.  ::) :P Thankfully September is right around the corner and will hopefully put an end to this insipid humidity and heat we're having.  >:( :P

Oh and a "milestone" yesterday. Wore my first skirt in eight years!  :o ;D After recently discerning why I had stopped with the skirts/dresses in the first place. :-X But I must say it's amazing what hips can do for your wardrobe.  ;D ::)

Seems I'm A Lazy MoFo  ::)

...but honestly there's really nothing to say for these things.  :-/ Nothing's going on worth reporting and I hate just talking about my hair. There's so much more to me then that.  ::) But I hate taking the time to write two second trivial posts so I wait awhile and lump all the patheticness together.  ::) ;D

Hair routine has been the same basically. With on stray CO and one stray week of not washing. Both of which did nada for the dryness.  :P However I am nearing the end of my conditioner so a new one is on the horizon.  8-) Treatments are supposed to be back up to twice a week but I don't have enough stuff to do that at the moment so I used some left over BBAB which also did nada.  ::) Hair is being oiled every day sometimes twice in one day.  :P Will be trying olive oil with my shea butter because a) not enough of the deep treatment and b) lets face it I'm just grabbing at f'in straws here.  ::)

Weather's been sensational for over the past week.  8-) However the new lack of humidity is leaving my hair drier then ever.  :P >:( C'est ma vie.  ::) However it's supposed to be wonderfully raw and rainy the next couple of day due to another out of season Nor'Easter.  :D This winter is looking so good... ;D

Money tends to trickle in however I've squirreled enough away to make a purchase this weekend. Now if I could only make a descision.  :-/ But if I could then I wouldn't be the "queen of indecisiveness" would I?  ;)

Anyone know a store that sells a hair slide? I've looked at Kmart but not the Revlon accessories. Target online, CVS online. No one has one. And I found a cute hairstyle for one too.  :( Figures.  :P

Nails are fine had a couple breaks but they've grown out. When they're all the same length again I may get inspired to paint them something fallish.  ::)  ;)

So yes that's it a whole rousing bunch of nothing.  ::)

I Didn't think...

...It had been so long since I last wrote. Silly me.  ::)
All right there was the Friday wash that became a Thursday. So I nixed the deep treatment for another week.

Bought a top to replace a similarly colored one that is now too small.  :-? Or may have always been too small in the first place.  ::)

It was windy and misting nicely on the 11th.  8-) Good times except when it appeared that a tree looked like it would fall on our car.  :o No worries. Didn't happen. Freaked out though, nothing a chocolate brownie and an evening glass of wine couldn't solve.  ::)

Last week I tried the shea butter olive oil thing. It made my hair so greasy that I shampoo it out meaning I shampooed the length. So it was more dry than usual.  :P I wound up oiling it four times in one day then by the following day it looked greasy and dry.  :-?

Most fortunately though I will soon be switching shampoo and conditioner.  8-) May the new stuff work better then the crap I have now.  :P

Styles have been basic, bun, Dutch braid, did a long clamp bun on Sunday. Hair is impossibly dry due to the lack of humidity, even though it's humid today, so getting it out of my sight, and everyone elses for that matter, is a must.  ::)

Have decided to take up knitting again.  ::) Yes even though I swore it off a few years ago after an aggravating run in with a scarf.  ::) This pattern book we have was calling to me I wanted to be able to do something nifty like that. I'm better at it then I was then. And finally figured out how to purl...  8-) only took me ten years.  ::) ;D First project will be making a blanket for my dog. However am making sample patterns now to practice the basics.

Just found this thing where you can learn beginner languages online.  :-? In twelve weeks my French should be better then it was in the four years of my life I wasted in school?  :-? :-/ If this works I'll be just as surprised as anyone. It's free so who cares if it doesn't right?  ::)

Guess I'm trying to busy myself so I seem less dull to myself and less mopey.  ::) However an income flow would be nice.  ::) :P Maybe in a month I'll have an opportunity...

Nails are fine one broke, the rest need a trim if they look halfway decent may paint them.  :D ::)

Got flattened by the monthly monster yesterday.  :P >:( Slept lousy, like normal and felt simply awful all day. However my shower was oddly refreshing.  :-? Must of been the pomegranate candle I had sitting out.

Seems for once I wasn't overly dull typing this.  :D

LOL Sounds like me!  My mom tried to teach me to crochet when I was a kid.  All I could manage was the beginning chain.  Much frustration for her and me both!  Then when I was in my early twenties, a friend's mother was crocheting and was happy to show me how.  All of a sudden I got it!

Except I can't figure out crocheting no matter what I do.  ;D ::) Oh and I teach myself. I can't seem to learn most things properly if I have to be taught.  ::)

So y'all. Nothing much to report. Hair still in sad shape. New shampoo and conditioner don't do squat. Sometimes the conditioner doesn't rinse out.  :P Not really sure anything works.  :P :-/ If it continues to be this bad may have to cut.  :'(

Styles have been the same stuff.

Weather's something. Two consecutive Nor'easters since yesterday through Sunday. With rain/drizzle/wind/and temps about 40°. Yes I will pop out into it tomorrow even though I'll probably feel like I'll never be warm again.  ::) :D ;D

I don't ever seem to remember to write in this thing. I can't find the time, though oddly I don't seem to do much.  :-? And I hate typing a lot. And yet I consider myself a writer.  ;D ::) So yeah. Well when it's always the same ol' same why write often? *shrug*

I can't really think of things to report. It's all the same. Annoying hair, lack of money/job/life yadda yadda. So that's it. I probably didn't forget anything.  ::)
