Title: white dot point?
Post by tinselhair on Aug 6th, 2008 at 7:52pm
Can you tell me what this means?  I have noticed some white dotage in my long slivery tinsel hair....???? :-?  especially now that I am trimming my own split ends.

I used to notice some on mine, but none since I have changed my haircare. Everytime I would touch where the hair was, it would break right there! :'(

The white dot is usually a spot where the hair shaft has been broken and will usually break off easily at that spot.  Trim the hair just above the dot to prevent the damage from traveling up the hair shaft.

Hello all of you long-locked beauties~well I finally bit the bullet and got my hair porfessionally trimmed--I was seeing too many of those white dots, and I didn't buy quite expensive enough scissors to trim them--so I found a school of cosmetology where the students (and being a teacher, I love students) are monitored while they work and ask questions and receive instant feedback and support while trimming.  It was a fantastic experience--took her 2 hours.  I am so pleased and satisfied with my long layers.

I have no split ends (that I can see) and no white dots.

Now, my question is...how can I avoid getting white dots in the future while my hair is growing back to hip length.  I have about 3-4 inches to go.

Sincerely,
Tinselhair

Hi, Tinselhair!  Good for you getting your trim, now you can grow those last few inches more healthily.  If you braid your hair frequently, be sure to not stop at the same place every time.  That can break hairs which leads to the white dots.

I'm glad you got a result that you really like.  Just keep taking good care of your hair, and remember that those ends are old and therefore fragile.
