Title: Konnichi-wa!
Post by SeaWitch on Oct 7th, 2008 at 9:38am
That's Japanese for "hello". :)  My name's Shannan and I'm a new LongLocks-aholic.  I'm active duty Navy and despite the time and fashion constraints, I've managed to grow my hair down as long as my butt, yet never shorter than mid-back.  I don't have a lot of patience for girly-do's, much to my mother's everlasting dismay, but I do enjoy simple, easy hairstyles that keep my hair out of the way when I'm not in uniform.  Madam Susan's gorgeous sticks are PERFECT for me because they're beautiful and different, yet easy to use. :)

Now if only I could get some Wilbur Buds to bribe her with. ;)

Please to meet everyone!

Well, I've been in 10 years as of last month and I've been stationed in Maryland, San Diego, Japan, and now Guam.  I've visted two dozen countries from Bahrain to India to Australia.  I work primarily in communications and have had assignments in everything from Radio to Networks.

By nature and by the demands of the job, I'm not very girly but I do love my pretties... and Susan's Stix are PRETTY!  :D

10 years - congrats!  My father was in the Navy - WWII and Korea, then the Reserves until they kicked him out for a "pre-existing medical condition" after 19 years, 6 months.  We lived on both coasts with his assignments.  I was pretty little during those years, but I do remember the quanset hut housing - especially in the rain.  Communications sounds like a great career area.  And the travel can be fun.

Keep up the good work.

19 years and SIX MONTHS???  That's shifty; they could've had him at a desk for six months. :P  I'm doing my 20 years, and the boyfriend-with-hubby-tendencies is looking at doing 30.  He's NUTS... of course to be a Marine AND in love with me, he'd HAVE to be certifiable!  ;D

The medical discharge was a real bummer.  He DID have a pre-existing heart condition that had never been detected, and it was eventually going to be a serious problem (He had 2 heart valves replaced many years later), but, heck - he was in the reserves, as a training officer at a landlocked base.  He could have finished out his time with no complications.  Instead, he was out with NOTHING.  I had to fight to even have him buried at a National Cemetery.  He served active duty in TWO WARS!  Ah well - that is all in the past.  On the up side - they did diagnose what was a serious heart defect that might have gone undetected for many many more years and might have killed him at an early age.

Good luck with getting your 20 in.  Hopefully it will be all fun and exciting.  Having a BF/potential hubby with Marine background around isn't all bad either.  ;)

I'm trying to talk Susan into doing a camo-themed hairstick design for me, but she's digging in her heals. :P  I'm not trying to be funny; I want to wear them for my Jerr! LOL ;D  The green cammies would even compliment my hair color.  It's not that she's against the uniform... I think she just hates the pattern!  ;D

Hi SeaWitch! Welcome to LL!

I have no idea how you manage to maintain long hair and have an active career in the Navy! All the travel sounds awesome!

Oooo - camo - very cool.  Susan does tend to lean towards pinks and purples and the "girly" designs.  But give her time - she may still find a way to do camo for you!

If ONLY I could order Wilbur Buds online!!!!  :'(  Then she'd do it... or at least consider it!  ;D  I know a spatter-pattern of green, brown and black wouldn't be difficult to do, and she could use mink and dark emerald Swarovskis for sparklies.  Since it's the Marine Corps, the metal fittings could be gold.  Hm... you know, as DuetStix, the mental image I have of them are actually pretty cool!

SUSSSAAAAAAAAAN!!! PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE WITH WILBUR BUDS ON TOP!
