Title: Here is another newbie
Post by denisem on Dec 10th, 2008 at 1:01pm
Hi all. Let me introduce myself. I am a 42 year young outdoorsy female. I work as a ranch hand\ horsetrainer on a 44 head horse ranch.Along with caring for the 2 horses I currently own, more to come.  I am also a retired barrel racer. Happily married to me best friend Ronnie. I love my long hair which is now a lil past my back bra strap. I hope to make as many friends here as I can. You all seem to be very sweet helpful ladies. Until next time... Talk to u all soon.

Lovely to meet you, DeniseM. :)

My family also owns 2 horses and my younger sister is a former barrel racer as well.
Do you use horse products on your hair? And if so, do you have any recommendations? My sister has recently expressed interest in switching from salon products to horse products, so I'd be interested to see what someone else in the equestrian circuit might suggest. ;)

So what type/colour hair do you have? What's your routine like?

Welcome to LongLocks!  I don't own a horse - never have, but I did spend a summer at a horse camp as a camp counselor.  ;)  Loved riding everyday and being around the horses.  A bad back prevents me from riding now, but I still love the big animals.

Welcome Denise!!

I used to be a horseperson too!  I trained several for some friends, but never got to really own one myself.   :'(  My riding days are over now.  I've had three surgeries on my left leg and hip, and the doctor says "No more."  I still like being around them as much as possible, which isn't much anymore.

My hair is about BSL (bra strap length) also, but mine is layered.  Is yours layered or blunt cut?

I used to spray Show Sheen on my hair when it was down, but now I can't remember if it did anything, or I just liked spraying it.   ::)  Have you ever used the hoof dressing on your nails?

Hey angel.I used to love barrel racing still do but I did it for almost 7 years. What a toll it takes on the body. So now I just train them, which is still hard but very rewarding. I have a paint mare named whiskey, and a blue roan\draft named blueberry. I love them to death. They are my childrn. As far as horsey products go I would reccommend to you and your sis not to go there.the shampoos are very harsh and drying to our hair. Trust me I've tried them all.  I do have one excellent product though I use on a daily basis...its called Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine. I buy a 12 oz bottle and it lasts me quite a while. You can request a catalog from there website www.horse.com.   Now as far as my hair goes: my hair is pretty long a little past the  middle of my back. Light brown with some honey & wheat highlights. I only wash my hair 2x a week it is very dry with all the dust getting in it on a regular basis. I normally keep it in a braid or bun for work. And usually down and air-dried wavy for home. When I actually am home and not at the farm. I also use hollywood beauty olive oil on my ends every night, and it may seem weird, but on especially cold days I put the oil from ear lobes all the way down to my ends, put it in a ponytail and wrap that with saran plastic wrap really tight and take a nice hot bath. The steam along with the plastic wrap really penetrates that oil into your head like norhing else can. I swear by it.

Hey. I've never used the hoof stuff on my nails. And my hair is layered, well almost grown out I haven't cut my hair in over a year and my hair is cut into a V shape at the bottom.

Hey, cool, I'm a light brunette too. :)
And using olive oil on your hair doesn't sound weird at all. Most of the ladies here do. ;) Myself included, even though my hair hates oil. I have a big bottle of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) that I'm trying to use up.

Your horses sound adorable. :)
We have a sorrel paint quarter (our former barrel racer) and a thoroughbred/quarter paint (our former big prize show horse). Both belong to my younger sis and are kept at a ranch in the next town over.

As for horse products, I don't use them since they're usually loaded with oils, which I try to avoid. Horse shampoos are indeed very harsh, but I think the leave-in's and treatments were mostly what my sis was after. I will pass along the recommendation for the Cowboy Magic Detangler & Shine...thanx for the tip. ;)

Welcome denisem. I'm just another horse enthusiast on this board.  :) I've loved them ever since I could think.  ;D I'll probably be getting lessons next year. Not sure how much of a role they'll play in my life at the moment.  :-/ But it'll be great to be around them, haven't been in a few years. So are you planning to maintain your length or add to it?

Welcome to LongLocks, Denise.  I always wanted a horse of my own, all I got to do was ride.  I really loved getting in the ring, first English and later Western.  Say Hi to your 4 legged babies for me!

See you around the boards!
