Title: Conditioning
Post by YesitsReal on Mar 22nd, 2009 at 11:21pm
I've heard that overconditioning your hair (here, meaning conditioning it too many times per week) can make your hair shaft brittle because it's like dipping the hair in wax repeatedly.  Has anyone heard this?  How often do you condition your hair?  I've been conditioning just about every day, even if I don't use shampoo to wash.  Is that okay?  Having fine hair, it breaks easily anyway, and I hate to cause more damage than necessary!

Thanks!

I think you want to condition every time you wash your hair.  With fine hair, you might need a lighter conditioner-look for one that says its formulated for everyday use.

I also think it is possible to overcondition your hair by using too heavy of a conditioner for your hair type.  I don't know about it causing breakage, but it can make your hair look greasy even though its clean.

Fine hair needs to be conditioned with every wash. Over-conditioning is actually very difficult to do. You would have to be using a super heavy conditioner and not rinsing it out all the way at least, oh, 10 times a day and never clarifying for that to happen. ;D

Personally, I have very fine, thin hair and use at least 3 different conditioners every day. Of course, I clarify once a week. But even when I didn't clarify at all, I never had a prob with over-conditioning.

But to better answer your question, yes, it's perfectly safe to do COW's (conditioner only washes) on fine hair. I've certainly had to do this once or twice when pressed for time!
