Title: yaaay! I'm happy to be a new member!
Post by lalalalove on May 11th, 2009 at 11:36pm
Hi Everyone!
I'm so happy that i finally signed up here!
I have read several posts and finally decided i wanted to be part of this.
I also think that the best people to ask for advise is people who obviously know what they are talking about.
And i think i've come to the right place!
Now for my very first question here...
what shampoo does everyone use?

I am wanting to switch to something without SLS or ALS or anything like that... any suggestions? (by the way i have dry hair but within 3 days my roots are a little oily (end still dry though).
I really looove long hair and i used to have hair a little below my bra-strap but died it and fried it, so i had to start over. so im just really trying to do everything possible to keep my hair healthy while it grows out..

Hello and welcome, lalalalove.

I have dry hair, being wavy/curly and so I use:

DevaCurl Lo-poo
Allafia shea butter and virgin coconut oil shampoo
Allafia neem and virgin coconut oil shampoo (for when my scalp itches)

How long is your hair right now?  What color/texture/type is your hair and how long do you want to grow it?

Are you currently using conditioner every time you wash and do you use a leave-in conditioner?

Welcome to LongLocks!

Your hair type will have a lot to do with the type of shampoo and conditioner that you use.  But anything that is gentle and provides some moisture should be good.  I've been using JASON products alternating with others to see if there is anything else that works for my very thin, classic length hair that has a lot of wiry grey in it.

Good luck with your hair goals!

Hey! thanks for responding you guys!
Sakina, my hair is about an inch past my collar bone (i dont know the technical term for that.. haha) and I'm hoping to grow it out about waitst length (around where the belly button is). my hair texture is wavy (used to be curly but i messed it up i think). My natural hair color is a medium ashly brown that looks almost red-ish in the sun, but it is dyed dark brown.

Thanks again for your help! :D

oh! i forgot about the conditioner.. yes, i use both.
i use a conditioner after i wash it and then i use a leave in one afterwards.
currently i have been switching back and forth from using mane 'n tail shampoo and conditioner and garnier fructis color shield. my leave in conditioner is the herbal essences long term relationship i think. but i'm going to try different shampoo and conditioner now. i just dont know what

Hi Lalala and Welcome aboard :)

I have thin, light brown greying, curly hair which is mid back length and I use Jason Sea Kelp shampoo and Avalon organics Lavender condtioner with some great results. I also rinse with ACV (apple cider vinger) in between the poo and condtioner.

Greetings and welcome, L4. :)

Your hair actually sounds a lot like my sister's is naturally, so I applaud you for going back to your roots.

As for shampoo, I'm currently using a slightly diluted Pantene Ice Shine. That won't help you much if you're looking for sulfate-free shampoo.
L'Oréal recently launched a line of sulfate-free shampoos, so you could try those if they strike your fancy. I've not tried them since I personally have no problem with sulfates.

My sister uses a sulfate-free, hydrating shampoo made by Enjoy, which she absolutely loves. As I mentioned, her hair type & texture are very similar to yours, so you might try it out if you can afford it.

Anyway, lovely to meet you and happy growing.
