Title: Just got it layered.

Hey there. Is it normal for naturally straight hair to become wavy after getting it layered? Also, when wet, it's straight again, but upon drying, it flips out all over the place, starts to wave, and generally just looks bad.

My question: what can I do to make it straight again? Get it cut all one length like it was before or something?

Hi, bsnow22.  My guess is that you have some natural wave that didn't show before because the weight of your length pulled it straight.  Now that it has been layered and weight is different and the waves are showing up.

You could comb it while its drying to help it lay better or use a pomade to weigh it down.  I don't advocate the use of flat irons because the heat is damaging, but of course you could use one if you choose.

Naturally straight hair does not wave by itself. Ever.

Your hair probably has a natural wave that was being suppressed somehow...likely through excess weight or ill health. As for making it straight again, I would say don't. You should never try to make your hair be something it isn't.

Many products out there can tame frizz, but only torturous methods will (temporarily) change the texture of your hair.

I just want to confirm what the posters above me wrote.  Many people actually ask for layers to bring out natural waves.  I have layers around the bottom and front but that hasn't caused my hair to wave.  My hair is just stick straight and will never look wavy.  If my hair was cut short enough, I'd just look like I'd been electrocuted.  That's all. ;D

Impossible. I've never used dye or any product on my hair, so its health couldn't have been "ill." And it's longer now than it was before, so weight isn't the issue either.

Yeah, my hair was stick straight too. At the time, I had no idea layers did that. I just thought a haircut was a haircut and the lady screwed up royally. Looks like that was true.
