I was getting my nails done this morning and there is a new hair dresser at the salon I go to (it is a great all purpose place) and she couldn't imagine why anyne would want hair as long as mine (the girls there that know me had me take my braid out to show her).  I told her that I couldn't imagine having short hair....the girls there told her that this is why they are in business every one wants something different....she think that if I'm going to have long hair I should have it cut back to classic length....that is almost 10 inches of hair I asked her if she was nuts....I got a big laugh from the salon owner  he jokes about cutting my hair off all the time and he wants to dye it bright red too...that would be a sight!

Stress can do a lot of damage to your hair...my Mom lost some of her hair a couple of years ago to stress (part of one eyebrow too).  It has grown back now but it really made me think about my life style and I've slowed down a little to rest and relax it is a good thing to rest and relax and have fun and not take life so seriously.

Take it easy

Ginny;
It always amazes me when a hairdresser or stylist makes comments regarding hair being too long.  You would think they should appreciate the care and patience it takes to achieve the length.  Granted, they are in business to cut hair, but there are many ways they can still "make money" on a person with long hair - conditioner treatments, trims, etc.

Sounds like you are comfortable telling the stylists how you feel!  Way to go!

Haha - every time I go to a beauty salon they used to compliment me on my long hair! Hmm, cultural differences I suppose!

I have not been to a hair salon since my hair hit my shoulders, so I have no idea how they would react.  I am thinking about trying to find a salon in my area that would do a deep conditioning treatment on my hair.

Have you been trimming your hair yourself?

For deep conditioning I usually put in conditioner and leave it in all night, wash it out in the morning. I have found that most of the salon deep conditioning doesn't do the job very well  Undecided you might have better luck.

My husband had been trimming my hair every 6 months, but I have not had it trimmed for 10 months now. I have not been to a hair salon in many years.  But with waist length hair and the ends starting to get rather dry looking I thought I might try for a "real" conditioning treatment.

I do "dust" any split ends I find on a regular basis, but I don't have many of those  Grin

I heard that if you wear your hair up a lot, it increases your potential for having split ends, and if your hair is very long it weighs down your hair and creates tension... or something. There was a year when I would make a bun with a really cool clip *all the time* and that's when I got my first split ends, so I guess it could be true?

I've not heard that wearing the hair up in a bun causes splits, in fact I have heard and personnally experience the exact opposite.  When my hair is down, the ends, which are fragile due to their age, tend to break and spilt.  When worn up in a bun, they are protected (they are tucked into the bun and not exposed).  As for the tension, as your hair gets longer, you may find that you need to put the hair in a bun in 2 parts so that all of the weight is not stressing the same segments of hair.

patience ladies....when I was growing my hair out again it hit the middle of my back and stayed that length for about two years Undecided...I didn't think it would ever grow again....it is now about 2" above my knees........

patience....time and patience Wink

when I want to do a deep condition on my hair I wet my hair down and work warm olive oil into it I tie it all up in a plastic bag and then wrap it in a towel...I stay that way for a few hours and then wash it out and condition.. my hair seems to like it so why tamper with the "salad treatment" Smiley

How long have you been using the olive oil as a treatment?  I found that it was drying to my hair and have heard others say the same thing.  I have very fine hair, so maybe it is the type of hair.

But you are so right, growing long beautiful hair takes a lot of patience.

Not really  Embarrassed It looks much healthier, and it grows and grows but the hairloss is still there. I am wondering every day how much hair is still left over and itīs my chance that I seem to have so much hair that there is enough to fall out  Angry
