Leia mentioned tension.  Has anyone else had neck  problems or headaches associated with the lenght/weight of your hair?

I have been having difficulties with both for quite some time now.  My hair is "bum" length and not too thick or thin.

I find i have to support my neck sometimes with my hand when rinsing out shampoo and conditioner.   Cry Several times lately, I have come close to cutting it off.   Shocked

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've had times where my bun will pull on my hair.  I usually remake the bun and use just the top half of my head to make the bun and secure it , the coil the remaining hair around the first bun and secure it.  It usually is not noticable that I have made the bun with 2 separate groupings of hair.  Also, placing the bun in a different area of the haed, higher or lower can help.

How do you wash your hair?  In the sink, tub or shower?  Do you lean forward or backward to rinse?  Do you have problems with your hair tangling if you change the direction of your hair?

How long have you been using the olive oil as a treatment?  I found that it was drying to my hair and have heard others say the same thing.  I have very fine hair, so maybe it is the type of hair.

But you are so right, growing long beautiful hair takes a lot of patience.

For years now and my hair seems to really like it...my scalp too.  My hair is fine in texture but it is thick.  I've never had a drying reaction to it.  Maybe it is because my grandma used this on my hair as a baby that it is something my hair and scalp are used to....

Robin,

I have problems no matter how I wear my hair.  I always wash in the shower because I don't like my hair going partially down the drain when using the sink.   Shocked

I rinse from the back, with my head tilted back.  I don't have tangling problems with respect to wahing, primarily because I like to let my hair dry mostly before combing it.  I have always been taught that your hair is most vunerable to damage from brushing/combing when it's wet.

I see what you're getting at, I'll try rinsing from the front and see if that helps...

Thanks

I agree on the hair down the drain  Grin

Have you tried the split bun?  Does you neck hurt when you leave your hair down?  Could it be your pillow or how you sleep on your pillow?  (Don't laugh, the wrong pillow or the way you sleep on your pillow and cause serious neck pain).

Stress in general can also cause neck pain (along with headaches).  It is pretty unusual for hair to be the cause of head and/or neck pain.  The pain is usually from something else.

Hope you figure it out   Undecided

Your body is built to support your hair growth until it reaches its maximum length. In the days of the cavemen, I don't think the women knew to cut their hair, and God would not have made us to have a certain amount of hair unless we could support it (if you don't believe in God, think of natural selection; we adapt to our environment, in this case, our hair  Grin). You hair is not and never will be too long for your head to support. I agree with Robin, it could be stress, as well as the way you might be sleeping, especially if you leave your hair open when you sleep.

Thanks for the advise, ladies.

I have tried different pillow with little or no improvement.    Sad

I'm glad to hear that it probably wouldn't be from the weight of my hair.   Grin  I've been reluctant to ask my doc for fear he'll suggest a "trim"    Cry

I hadn't thought of Leia's philosophy, Thank's Leia!!

KASiss;

If tension and/or stress is causing neck and back pain, I'd suggest some relaxation.  Try taking a hot shower with the water streaming on the areas that you have pain.  A soaking bath is also good.  A nice neck and shoulder massage can do wonders for you.  Try doing neck and shoulder rolls several times a day.  Pay attention to your posture and make sure you are not slouching or tensing your neck or shoulders.

I hope you can find some relief, we certainly would not want you to feel you need to cut your hair!  Tongue

This is what I do to get rid of stress: I meditate for a while on what is actually the cause of my stress, and then see what I can do to fix it. It isn't often that I am actually stressed, but when I am, it causes me to become anorexic which causes my hair to fall and me to become very sick so it's very important that I find out what's causing it! Sometimes the problem seems unsolvable. A few years ago, it was unpopularity, and I wasn't sure why, but I just basically ignored it and was myself and now I have no problem with that anymore. Once a boy was troubling me and I couldn't get rid of him for fear of hurting his feelings, but what I did was go up to him and tell him exactly how I felt about him and asked him to stop bugging me.

Bust that stress and save that hair  Grin

I'm 15 years old with bra length, kinda wavy-straight brown hair. My mom completely adores my hair because it's really thick and full of bounce and shine. She would never allow me to cut it! She told me that hair now will be gone tommorrow. I guess its true. I don't really like long hair as it isnt in trend right now but just for my mom, i'm keepin it for a while. Does anyone know any cool hairstyles for my kinda hair? Thanks!

How can you say it is not the trend right now???? Look at all the celebreties that pay tons of money for extensions!!!!  It sounds like you have beautiful hair.  In fact, hair that many others would love to have.

A fun hairstyle that would look good on a young person, is a knotted ponytail.  You pull your hair up for a high ponytail (you could put a hair friendly ponytailer on it to make it stay easier), then twist it like you were going to put it in a bun. Lay/twist the twisted/roped hair around once, then pull the remaining hair through the center of the bun from the bottom up.  Secure the knot with  pins or hairsticks.  This gives you a shortened ponytail!

I'm only 14 and I'm very proud of my long hair. I always keep up with the latest fashion and everything, but in my opinion long, beautiful hair is the one thing that is always in fashion. It always looks great and anyway, bra-length isn't all that long.

Another hairstyle that also looks great on young girls is a sausage-link-ponytail,where you tie your hair in a regular ponytail and then add a scrunchie every few inches all the way down 8)
