Oh oh no my hair is fine now! It was quite short then, and it has all grown out now. I'm glad it's all natural  Smiley.

An easy way to figure out if it really is all natural or if there's still some of the processed hair left, is to measure how long your hair is.  Hair grows on an average of a 1/2" a month, or 6" a year.  If the damage occured a year ago, anything longer than the 6" mark would still be processed hair.  This is of course assuming you trim your hair on occasion.  If you don't, then the ends of your hair as far as up as the length of your hair was when you processed it are not virgin hair.

If you should figure out that the ends are processed, you don't really need to worry about cutting them until they show signs of damage, which they likely will eventually.  The thing is that you want to trim them off at the *first* signs of damage so that it doesn't have the opportunity to move up the hair shaft and affect the healthier hair growth.

Thanks a lot - I checked and my hair grows really fast - there's about half an inch of damaged hair! It hasn't split yet but I'm keeping an eye on it!

I used a "wash out" dye to color my slightly grey hair about 5 years ago.  I finally got the courage to follow your advice about unhealthy hair, cut it.

We cut off 8" of hair to finally get rid of the light auburn color that refused to wash out.  My hair feels wonderful and my tiny bun is the same color as the rest of my hair.

I've learned that natural looks better on me and it is so much healthier!

Are you growing your hair back out? How long was it when you cut it?

It's great that you're going all natural. When I stopped blow drying my hair and using products I felt much better about my hair and my looks, it just feels better when it's in it's normal state!

Glad to hear you feel better about your hair and how it looks going natural.  I am sure you will re-grow the length before you know it.

Yes, I'm regrowing it.

I was standing behind a woman with waist length hair and the last 4 or 5 inches were old dyed hair that was in very bad shape.  I felt so sorry for her hair!

Then I took a good look at mine.  That settled it.  I knew I had to cut and cut again if I was going to have healthy hair.

It was between my bra and my waist, now it is just past my shoulders. I'm also growing out my bangs, they almost reach my nose.  My hair still won't be one length so I know I'll have to do it again later, but not so drastically.

Longer hair stays out of your face, and so do short bangs.  I am using a headband for the bangs and a pony tail or bun to keep the rest of it out of my coffee.

My hair grows quickly in the spring so this was the best time to do it, but right now it is driving me crazy!

Love & Prayers,
Linda

I know how it feels to have to cut off a lot of your hair! I'm very sorry but to make you feel better, I'm having to grow my hair back down to my hips also!

I am also growing out my layers and there is a way to do it that is gradual rather than drastic. If you can find someone to cut it for you it would be more helpful than going to a hair dresser. Every few months, or whenever you need a trim, ask someone to cut a bit off *the bottom layer.* If you keep cutting the bottom layer the layers will gradually grow out until it is all one length.  Grin This is my approach and I find it better than having to cut off a lot of hair at once! Hope it helps!

I've heard that your hair grows faster once it is all one length.  Of course it just might *seem* faster because you aren't waiting years to get it that way.

My dear husband has not said a word about my shorter hair.  I think he is ignoring it until it grows long again.  LOL

If my hair grows 6" a year then it will be beautifully long again by next summer  Grin

Keep taking care of it and you WILL have beautifully long hair by next summer.  Good luck!

I use a very small amount of jojoba oil (natural foods and vitamin stores carry it).  I put a drop in the palm of my hand and rub my hands together to spread it on both palms.  I then run my hands through my hair (from the shoulders down).  I try to concentrate most of the oil on the ends of my hair where it is the driest.  I do this until the oil is no longer evident on my hands.  Depending on your hair, the amount of oil will vary, but I recommend starting with very small amounts until you learn how much is necessary for your hair.

I am wearing a bun and hat the next time I go to the movies. And sitting in the very back row. Unreal!

All of the stories, I feel really grateful that mine is just plain silly. Have any of you ever rolled your hair in the automatic car window, and not known it until you almost rip your head off turning to the other side. ROFL. I hadn't thought of this for years.  Grin
