My hair!!
Jul 2nd, 2004 at 6:42pm

Cry I recently started taking birth control and the hair around the edges of my hair are thining noticably it is also shedding really bad and I dont know what to do. I am so upset. I told my doctor and all he said was "that just happens sometimes" That just happens sometimes I dont care how often it "happens" I dont want my hair falling out over some stupid birth control I love my hair and it was doing so good and now this, I am so upset. I also asked him if there was something else I could take and he said there isnt because I am breastfeeding so I am just going to be bald and sad I guess. (CRy) Cry

Any change in hormones can cause temporary fallout (or lack of fallout).  I'd give your body a chance to adjust the change and see if it resolves itself.

Giving birth frequently causes significant fallout, but it always settles down after a couple of months.

Hang in there, it will be OK.

I have a friend in your situation, candylipsgurl. She also lost a fair amount of hair but figured at least some of it was post-partem hair loss, as it tapered off eventually.

How old is your baby? How long are you planning to breast-feed? It might be worth it to just use another form of birth control for the upcoming months, and after you stop breast-feeding go back to your old birth control pills.

I didnt know that would cause your hair to fall out(postpartum I mean)  I only have one child and he is four months old, I am not planning on having anymore I had a very hard time with this one. It was pure pain the entire time. It was worth it though I got a beautiful baby boy out of it so Im happy, he is beautiful. I am still distrought though because I love my hair alot too. Cry
I want it back NOW!!! (((cry))

I remember after the birth of my son that I lost a ton of hair. It seemed like half my hair.

Sometimes it seems like your hair is thinning out after
you give birth because some women's hair thickens
during pregnancy.  My hair came in thicker when I
was pregnant with my sons, then it fell out after
birth.  It got thin around the sides but it did grow back
in again fairly soon, so don't worry!!

Yes,exactly. All the hair that doesn`t fall out during pregnancy due to the high estrogen levels will fall out later  Sad  It was the same with me,but it normalized after 2-3 months.
A relative of mine had problems with the birth control pill she was taking and was shedding lots of hair-she was prescribed another brand and the shedding stopped. So maybe that's worth checking out  Smiley
