"growth plateaus"
Aug 3rd, 2004 at 9:59pm

Hey Folks,

I'm wondering if there's a rough trend for "growth plateaus" where your hair takes a rest period. For those with extra long hair, at what lengths have you all gotten these rest periods? I know rests have a lot to do with personal growth patterns and those vary like crazy, but I can't help wondering if there's a pattern. Any thoughts?

I think that more often we have "measuring" plateaus than "growth" plateaus. I think that hair hangs a certain way, or waves a bit more, or we measure slightly differently, and it looks like we haven't grown at all.

I do believe that sometimes growth is faster, and sometimes it's slower, but I also know that when it seemed like the tape measure was telling me my hair wasn't growing, I still needed to touch up my roots regularly. If my hair wasn't growing, I shouldn't have needed to do that.

I think my hair grows faster in the summer hot months and slower in the winter cool months. I think a lot of people have similar results. What are your growth plateaus?  Smiley

I've only been measuring since May, so I don't have any kind of feel for a normal growth pattern.

I feel my hair has always grown fast, and the first month I measured I got 3/4". But it was a month and a half after that before I was sure, given the learning curve of measuring growth, that I had grown more.

The roots seem to keep growing, even though the ends stay put. Roll Eyes

My hair seemed to "rest" and not show any growth for about 4 - 5 months.  This happened when my hair was just above waist length.  It was very frustrating.  I finally just decided to put it in a bun and quit measuring.

My hair then returned to it's usual growth of about .5" per month.

I've read that resting periods are not uncommon with extra long hair.
