henna to cover/blend grey
Sep 12th, 2004 at 6:59pm

Hi Everyone,

There have to be more redheads here!  Come out, come out, wherever you are.....
I'm strawberry-auburn and have just a few scattered silver hairs-I've just recently stopped pulling them out-I really don't dislike the silver-but, Roll Eyes, I've been thinking about trying henna-who uses it and likes it? Does it hurt your hair? What kind is best and where do I get it?

TIA,
strawberryfine

Ah, yes, the "how to deal with grey" conundrum.  I've not used henna myself, but have heard that basicially henna is not damaging because it really is not permanent.  It leaves a layer of pigment on the hairshaft that with time, will fade away.  Also, the primary color will be red.  Being a headhead to begin with, you shouldn't have any issues with that!

I know there is a great site that explains more about henna, but of course I can't find it at this time.  I'll hunt around some more and see if I can find it for you.

I thinks it's called "hennaforhair.  I've been thinking
about using henna, too but I'm kind of chicken.
i have previously chemically treated hair, but its been
about 4 months now.  I've all of a sudden got a lot
of grays coming in the bang/fringe area.  But I don't
know if Henna covers gray.  I hear its actually good
for your hair, but it sounds like its difficult to apply.
Anyway, I think its called hennaforhair

I use henna, but not to cover gray (and I'm not a redhead!) It gives me subtle red highlights in my very dark brown hair. It doesn't hurt your hair at all if used properly, and the best kind is pure, fresh henna. It grows in my backyard  8)

You're welcome BB!  I used henna many many years
ago (about 25) when I was very young and had virgin
hair.  I don't know if it was good quality Henna, It
was callled Egyptian Henna, I think.  It gave my med
brown hair subtle red highlights.    I think it gave me some volume and it dried it out just a little.  But I haven't
used it since then.  My friend had to help me apply it, I'm
a real dunce when it comes to doing that kind of thing
by myself.  I'm thinking of waiting a few more months.
I like red, some I'm not afraid of going red.   I like the idea that it doesn't hurt or damage the hair.

I found another good henna site if anyone is interested-

www.everydayhenna.com 8)

They have the Everyday Mehndi henna.
