best way for hair at night? 3 year old-long hair
Sep 29th, 2004 at 1:14am

My daughter who is 3 and a half as VERY long hair.  Down to her behind when pulled straight or wet.  She has natural banana curls at the ends (usually the curls are about 4-5 inches long), hair is to pant waist when it is natural with the curls.  It is also thick.  I have finally figured out how to get the tangles out, etc.. now my question is.... I have noticed  split ends and I am thinking it is due to nighttime.  Is it best to braid hair/pony tail at night or will that make it break being in the elastic when she turns her head at night?  Should I leave it free, will it break less?    I am planning on buying a satin pillow, it says hair with glide on that. Thanks.

Hello Heatha68

Leaving hair free will leave it more open to friction damage. It also requires mucho detangling, which I personally think is the worst damage to hair in general. It is best to do both of what you mentioned:
(a) Sleeping on a satin pillowcase, and
(b) Containing hair at night. Braids are excellent and very hair safe as long as you use a scrunchie or soft metal-free elastic. Scrunchies are best, especially with fine "baby hair" at her young age. Even better, you can stuff the braid inside a sock or some pantyhose and secure that with another scrunchie.

Sweet dreams and I hope this helps  Kiss

Welcome!

I agree with Anais.  Containing the hair will most likely prevent most of the tangles and damage.  Braids are probably the easiest method to use.  Be sure to use hair-friendly elastics on the ends.  Another option for the end of the braid, is to get those soft rollers (cloth covered foam with snaps on the end) and roll the ends of the braids in those.  It prevents the potential breakage on the braid ends, and gives curls!

Using the sock method is also a great way to protect the hair at night.  I usually braid my hair, roll the ends in a soft roller, then put a sock over my braid.  I have no tangles in the morning for my hip length hair.

Hello
Thankyou for this whole forum!!!
I am eleven years old with long hair and it really
helped me.
Now if i put it in a sock it is so amazingly tangle-free in the morning, so i don't have to comb it before i go in the shower.
thankyou,
