hair too long to wear down?
Mar 19th, 2005 at 1:07am

My hair is just about hip-length now, and suddenly, in the past couple of months, it seems like it's too long to wear down! Shocked  I can do almost anything when it comes to updo's, braids, etc.  Sometimes, though, I just get sick of having it up, and I want to let it down.  But it gets stuck in stuff (like chair backs), and gets tangled-looking eventually, and gets in the way.  Also, it just looks so long-- I don't want to look like "I have long hair and I don't know what to do with it so I just leave it down." Undecided  Does anybody else with hair this length feel like it's just too long to wear down?

I don't wear my hair loose as often now that my hair is beyond my hips. But now, when I do wear it down, I feel it is really special.

I wouldn't say it is too long to wear down, but it is to the point where I think twice about wearing it down.  I have to think about what I am wearing, what I will be doing, where I will be going and what will the weather conditions be.  I always keep a hairstick with me for the situations where I need to quickly control my hair, like going outside, in a car, etc.

If you can't enjoy your hair when it is long, what is the point of having it long?  One of my daily joys, is to let my hair down at the end of the day and comb it out.  I like to look at the waves and feel the softness.  I then carefully braid it loosely for the night.  It is a private, personal enjoyment.

I haven't worn my hair down for ages, it comes down to my hips and if I have it down it just hangs there. Undecided  Tongue

If your hair gets caught in chair backs, either get new chairs or make back covers to slip over them. Life is too short to stop wearing your hair down because of something that can be changed.

My office chair used to catch my hair.  I found a pillowcase to put over the back and "hardware" which solved the problem.

My school desk used to get mine, so I would drape my coat over it, or a flannel shirt or something.  Easy and portable, also effective.

Actually, I meant other people's chair backs Wink.  But thanks for the suggestion anyways. Kiss  Thanks everybody else too.  I cut my hair a good inch and now it's closer to waist length, so I think the problem is solved for now.

I have the same problem - I rarly where my hair down at school because they have little metal things that always catch my hair.  Also sometimes when I put my backpack on it gets under one of the straps and wraps around my neck so it sort of chokes me.  I've just taken to putting it in a braided bun with hairsticks every morning.

Heh... this post hasn't been commented on for awhile, but I was wondering if this problem had been discussed, because I'm in a computer science class and I JUST had to cut about three or four inches off a little section of my hair because it got stuck in the stupid chair.  Now that I think about it... it's pretty funny that as soon as something happens to my hair I feel the need to tell all the Longlocks people! Tongue My friend had to help me out, because there were no scissors handy... humorous, but very sad- should've tucked it into my jacket.

yep - school chairs can grab your hair and make life miserable.  Since you mention you are in Computer Science - I'll mention to watch out for the computer fans too!  More than once I have been leaning over a computer and had my hair get into the little cpu fan!

Ouch! Yeah, I've done that too. I don't wear mine down very often, but I love doing it. It's so much more comfortable.

I don't think it's ever too long to wear down... unless you're tripping on it! Grin I like the sort-of-renn-faire-style of braiding the sides and gathering them together in the back when I'm wearing it down. It also keeps it out of my face and lets in some cool breezes.

Maybe I'm missing something but the reason I grew my hair was to luxuriate in it's length. I have never worn it up and have never had any problems. Though once at a restaurant I thought the chair was catching my hair and then found it was the metal snake like chain on my handbag I had slipped over the back of the chair. I love my hair down. It isn't as long as all yours, just to below my waist, but if it ever gets to my hips maybe I will change my mind.

gosh darn it all to hades!! I soooo hate my computer. I got half way through a message and the thing just fizzled out on me.  Angry Anywho, the gist of what I was saying was that I sympathise and have also found it easier, out of fear of dammage, to keep my hair up instead of down. I'm only an inch or so shy of classic length and really want to make it to that goal. I console myself by considering my hair a distinct part of my feminine mystery. It's also a special treat for the love in my life, he gets to see another beautiful part of me that no one else does. He treats letting my hair down as a sacred act of worship, it really is special way of connecting with each other.

Oh no, Rainbow, you passed me in number of posts (lol).   Actually, I don't think there is a length that is too long to wear down, but there are places where saving your hair means you put it up. In your own home, you can always wear it down.  But any place that may cause damage, you should take care to put it up.
