Facial cleansing recipe
Nov 17th, 2005 at 6:10pm

I know I posted this recipe somewhere else on the boards, but I'm not quite sure where, so I'm posting it here.  This is my favorite face cleanser to use, I don't know exact measurements so I'll guesstimate that, it doesn't need to be precise, I change it a little each time I make it.

*1 Tbsp oats (I use plain Quaker oats)
* Raw almonds (use to your liking, the more used the coarser the mix, I use just a few)
* Dried rose petals (about 1/2 a rose worth)
* Dried lavender
* Blue poppy seeds (optional-adds extra exfoliation)
* 1/3 Cup clay powder of your choice
(available choices are white for dry/norm skin, green for oily skin, or red
     moroccan for acne prone/oily skin)

In a processor, finely chop up the oats, almonds, rose petals and lavender as fine as you can, the mix in with the poppy seeds and the cosmetic clay powder.  To use it you put about a tbsp in the palm of your hand (I use a dixie cup sometimes) and mix a little water at a time til you get a paste.  The clay alone can be used as a facial mask mixed with either water or jojoba oil and water.

I just got some new bottles of clay powder to make some more, but I'm going to try mixing it with some jojoba oil too this time.  Never did that before.  I'll let you know how it works!

(I buy my clay & oils at herbalremedies.com)

That sounds like a nice alternative to store-bought cleansers. Thanks for posting the recipe, Maggie!

I've recently tried a variation on this recipe and like this one very much, too.  I mix just the green or white clay powder with a few drops of jojoba oil, aloe gel, and a bit of tea tree oil.  At first I was mixing it out one "serving" at a time, but now that I know that I like it, I have mixed out enough to fill a small container so it's ready to use each time.  Works good as a mask, too.

Thanks for the recipe!  I try to use as little products on my skin because I have really bad eczema.  But that recipe sounds like it might do me some good.  Oats are good for soothing itchy skin, almonds for the oil and exfoliating texture, lavender to sooth, rose petals for scent (I might omit that since it might make me sneeze.)  The only thing I'm not sure if I'll get a reaction to is the clay since I never tried clay before.  I'll have to do a test patch.  Sounds fun!  I wonder if milk powder would be a good addition?

Wow, sorry I didn't see this here, this is from December *blush*!

Anyway, my skin is what's considered combination skin I guess, I battle with oiliness and dryness, too.  Bleagh!  What I do when my skin is going through a "dry phase" is mix in a few drops jojoba oil and aloe gel, using the white cosmetic clay powder.  The green and red tend to be even more drying.  In fact, lately my usual recipe is just the white clay, oil & aloe, none of the other stuff, mainly because of my laziness...it only takes a minute to whip it up this way, I don't have to break out the processor!  This combo works superbly for me, but if you have very dry skin, maybe it's best to skip the clay, I'm not sure on that.  I wouldn't want to hurt your skin!

I recomend the Rose cream from Dr Hauschka (available in healthstores). To anyone with exzema ,seborrea or other problem skin. Itīs like magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Itīs the models favorite and transforms any skin to even lovely skin. It also regulates oily skin/sebum in hair.

Itīs all natural and not tested on animals.I couldnīt live without it.You can by a very lttle tube to test (3$ aprox).

I finally had a chance to look that rose cream up, looks really fantastic...however a bit pricy for my budget.  Sad  $40 for a 1 ounce tube, which converts into about 283 Krona Swedish money...you are Swedish, right?  I'm going to see if I can find it cheaper anywhere else.

180 sek...about $25...that's much better.  I did see it on Amazon.com for about that price, maybe a few dollars more.  But I'm waiting for my new Amazon credit card to become effective, then I get $30 off my first purchase when I use it there.  Not too shabby!  Hope I can still find it at that price, you've got me really wanting to try it!

Where do you buy your's at?

Well, fata morgana, I did it!  I treated myself to a tube of Dr. Hauschka's Rose Day Cream!  I ordered it off of Amazon.com, along with another little goody I needed for my computer, and after my $30 discount it was like getting it for free.  Cheesy  I can't wait to try it, I hope it's as good as you say!

I'll let you know as soon as I get it...

First thing I did last night after going home was to wash my face and try my new rose cream.  LOL  I'm so impatient. Tongue

I can say that so far I LOVE IT!  Cheesy  It's wierd, after I put it on, I'm actually aware of how nice it makes my skin feel.  That may sound silly, but it's the only way I can describe it.  Of course I'm wearing it again this morning, I love the way it's not at all greasy & leaves my face feeling soooo soft & happy.

Thanks so much for the recommendation, fata morgana!  Smiley

It's the perfect follow up to my home-made facial wash.  They also sent me three free samples along with the cream, two of them are other types of facial creams, one is a gel face mask.  I'll try those a little later on.  I want to be consistent with the rose cream at first to know for sure how it's working for me.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

yeeeey!!!!!!!How happy I am that it works for you to!!!!!!

I find it gives the whole face an even colour and it almost(!) allows me to go without make up.Iīm a gothic woman (people say I look like von Teese) and have a really long rutine in the morning....

To minimize pores I apply freshly squeezed tomato with a cotton ball and let it work for 5 min then rinze with cold water. This also whitens the skin.

Many swedish rosen hugs!!!!!!!!

I just want to update that I am still using and *very much loving* Dr. Hauschka's Rosen Creme.  I use a little every single morning and night before bed, it makes my skin sooo soft and it really revitalizes my complexion.  It gives my face a healthy, rosey glow.....and it smells really good, like roses.

I tried the samples they gave me and liked those a lot too, especially the one, my spelling may be off, it's called Creme Fraiche I think.  That was really nice too, but I know I'm hooked on the Rosen Creme for life.

A freshly squeezed tomato for the skin, I never heard of that before.  I trusted your advice on the creme, so I'll trust your advice on this one too.  Maybe on the weekend I'll give it a whirl.
