Saying Goodbye!
Apr 25th, 2006 at 2:22am

Okay, don't beat me up, but I'm cutting my tailbone-length hair- not trimming, cutting. Grin I've been planning to donate it to a charity for a long time, and I'll be going off to college soon, and I don't think I'll have enough time to really care for it well.  The problem is that I can't figure out how to cut it...  My boyfriend thinks it would be interesting to see me with bangs, but I haven't had them for so many years, I have no idea what it would look like...  I want something in between jaw- and shoulder-lenght.  I have a round face with a high hairline, and well... I'll just post a link to a photo!  I know you all have much more experience with long hairstyles, but any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I'm so sorry you will be cutting your locks, but I understand your reasons.  Only you can know what is best for you.

As for the bangs..... I'm not an advocate for bangs, so I can't really say if they'd look good on your pretty face or not.  If you have not had bangs for a long time, you may find them distracting on your face - that happened to me once.  I've never had bangs since!  I can't stand hair in my face, but that is me.

One suggestion I would make - be sure you can still put your hair into a ponytail.  Anything shorter will be very frustrating for you since you are probably very accustomed to a quick ponytail or bun.

Good luck and let us see the end results!

Say, just because you cut your hair doesn't mean you have to leave us.   Smiley  We're not ONLY about long hair--we're also ambassadors of healthy hair (no matter the length) and healthy products, etc.

ps, i'm not a big fan of bangs either...but that's only personal opinion...you may look good in them, never know!

I think you may look good in bangs. The thing with bangs though is once you have them, they're hard to grow out. You may want to take baby steps. Cut the hair and see what you think before going the extra step and getting bangs too.
Good luck and have fun with your new length.

Thank you everyone for your excellent suggestions!  I think I will leave the decision on bangs for much later and just get it cut all the same length for now.  Thanks for the reminder to leave it long enough for a ponytail- I'll need it for this summer.  I've been selected to participate in environmental research in Washington state, so I'll need to keep it out of my face.  Also, it's good to hear that I'm still welcome here.  Smiley

I'm glad you are leaving it all one length for now.  This way if you ever do decide to get bangs, you can.  And not think later on that you shouldn't have if you already did. No rush, right?

Hi Jadewolf,

I think you have probably had your hair cut by now. How did it go? Were you very sad at the loss and how short did you get it cut? I so admire your reasons for doing it. And you are so brave, my hair is my security blanket and I am not sure I can let it go ever.  Is bangs in America a fringe in England? (I seem to be having a lot of trouble with some of the Amerian terminology but I think I 'm learning). I had a fringe all my life and decided this year to grow it out and I don't think I will ever have another one unless I cut my hair really short. It is so much easier not having to have my fringe cut every few weeks so I can see and then when they do cut it they cut it too short so this way I am in control.

Yes, I think bangs are the same as a fringe. Smiley  And yes, I've had my haircut- I put before and after photos in the "Show off your Locks" section of the message boards.  I just got back from an environmental research project in the Skagit River Basin of Washington state, and I'm so glad I cut my hair before I left!  It would've been really difficult to care for in the rough conditions.  Thanks so much for your interest!

my hair is my security blanket

It made me smile when I read that, cos I feel exactly the same way about mine! I always get really nervous when having my hair trimmed, cos I'm scared they'll have misunderstood how little to cut off, and end up chopping way too much! I think my poor hairdresser is sick to death of me telling her over and over again "now only *this* much"  Roll Eyes Wink

I think you would look great without bangs as you have a beautiful face so why hide it. Also i think your hair colour is great so i would say if you were to cut it then go for bra length for a while that way you will be able to grow it back quickly if you hate it and cut it shorter if you cant stand it.
