Hi;

I just joined this group.

My hair is shoulder-blade length. I like wearing it loose,  in high pony tails and french braids. I've never tried a bun but I might soon, if I can figure out what to do with the hair sticks everyone uses.

I'm not afraid to push boundries.

Wow! I was just looking for some instruction on how to do a fishtail braid. I found what I was looking for and so much more!

I just love to see long hair on a man (as long as it's neat and clean). My husband has waist length hair that is very thick, almost black with a few white hairs. I enjoy playing with his hair and braiding it (French and English braids) but never got the hang of the fishtail braid. Now that I have the instructions, I should be able to do it with a little practice.

It's so good to see that there are men out there who like wearing their hair long.

I will try to get some pics that I can post next time hubby is home. (He's a long haul truck driver)

Mine is 44" staight, and blonde Its between waist and tailbone now.
I want to get to classic length, and Im not sure after that.
I wear it down alot, in a ponytail, or braided.

What kind of elastics do you use for your ponytails and/or braids?

I like to us the scunci brand large think & thin no damage elastics.  I prefer the lighter brown colors that match my hair.  I also like to use scrunchies sometimes

Glad to hear you are using elastics that don't damage the hair.  Have you ever seen or tried Bunjii ponytailers?  The khaki is a great color for light brown, dark blonde hair.  I also like the chestnutty brown.

My hair is 24" using the measure-from-the-hairline technique. I don't like the term 'BSL' because, for various reasons, many people don't wear a bra. Instead I prefer the term 'MBL' (mid-back length) because everyone has a 'mid-back'. The longest part of my hair just reaches my mid-back. Or, to put it another way, I can touch the tip of my ponytail when I twist my arm behind my back  Grin.

I wear my hair loose whenever I can, though lately I've noticed it is taking longer to detangle it afterwards. I wear various ponytails, preferring the nape-of-neck tie. I like Bunjii's. I also have a nice silver ponytail cuff.  For sleep and exercise I wear a topknot. I regularly wear a low Bee-Butt bun. I'm trying to learn other bun styles. I have a pair of Chapstix on the way and they could help with the bun situation. I've just finished some experiments with braids that had great results.

Damaged hair tends to tangle more than healthy hair. How do you wash, and what are you using for conditioners?

I know you've been growing out your hair without trimming it, but to some extent this will resolve itself after your hair becomes long enough for you to trim off the damaged part and even up your ends.

I've made an effort to take good care of my hair but I know it is easy to inadvertently do things that cause a lot of damage. I wash my hair every two or three days. I was using Aussie products but I've been experimenting with L'Oreal Vive (shampoo and conditioner). I even rinse with apple cider vinegar (ACV) after shampooing. I let my hair air dry. One recent change is that I went from using leave-in conditioners (either Infusium 23 or Paul Mitchell 'The Conditioner). For the last couple of weeks I've been trying to use only Jojoba oil. It doesn't always give me the control I need (but it does leave my hair nice and soft). The tangles I've found have been at the ends, as if my hair was being whipped by the wind. I can't see all my ends (those of you who wear bifocals can relate) but the ones I can inspect look ok (no splits). There are high-resolution pictures of my hair on my website. Maybe I need a change in my routine or even a trim? I appreciate all advice!

Gollan, there are two excellent leave-in conditioners that are silicone-free which many longhairs swear by: Giovanni's Leave-in, and Beauty Without Cruelty's Leave-in.  When I do full-hair washes, I wash, condition, rinse like usual, then gently squeeze out the excess water.  Then I use about a quarter-sized amount of one of these two leave-ins, running it thru all of my hair's length from about neck down.  You can see that one bottle of leave-in can last a long time, as you probably wouldn't require more than a dime-sized amount.  Maybe this might help.

Good luck,
Jennifer Eve

Mine is 3/4 of the way down my back!! I'm going for waist length hair. I love wearing my hair down most of the time. I love how it feels hanging down my back and on my chest. I've had longhair for 15 years or so... I cut it all off in August 2000 because it had become very damaged due to using "sun-in", (i can't believe i ever used that....) I immediately started regrowing it, since then it has grown longer than i've ever had it, plus i love my natural dark brown color!!! The longer it gets the more i get inspired to just grow it and grow it!!!!

Next stop butt length!!!!
