How long is your hair, guys?

I love to see long hair on men, especially when it is well cared for.  How about telling us about your hair guys?  How long is the hair, how do you wear it?

Bill;
Glad you don't have a "mullet" - that is not my favorite style.  What color and texture is your hair?  Do you plan to grow it longer or keep it at its current length?

Mine is brown with some gray and it has a slight wave to it. As I mentioned it is shoulder length now and I'm thinking about letting it grow out another 4 inches or so. I guess that I'll just have to see how it looks as it gets longer. I wouldn't mind having it real long like Jennak mentioned but I don't think mine would look good at that length.

I say, give it a try!  You won't know if you like it until you try to let it grow.  If you take care of your hair, minimize split ends and damage, I'm sure youwill like the extra length.  Let us know how it goes.

Hey everyone, new to the forum and wanted to put out some feedback.  I have Deep red, thin, straight hair with natural subtle blonde highlights reaching right around my shoulders that I usually part right down the middle of my head and let it all flow back. It is also slightly layered. If any of you have any suggestions for my hair, any given would be appreciated

Basically, just other styles I can use without a terrible amount of trouble to get a little bit different look.  I've pretty much just had the same style ever since I've started growing out my hair.

High and low ponytails are the usual options.

Another variation would be to pull just the top half (above the ears) hair back into a ponytail or braid.

A single braid might also be possible with your length.

mines on my shoulders. lol i used to shave it weekly untill may 3rd 2003 (which just happens to be my new g/fs birthday) I rember anounching it on a bus as we were returning from a school trip... I always wnted it long since I was 4 but I never quite figured out how to do it. I take good care of my hair. But I have coloured it quite a lot. It's my natural blonde right now but so far I've had pink purple and brown. the only reason i died it so much was because i had to cover up the pink.
I always like to wear a ponytail but I don't have to courage to wear it long enough for people around me to get used to it although i think it looks very good.

I'm still not finished growing I want it a bit longer that mid-back length thats just about double what it is now

Erm... never measured it. It's halfway down my back if that helps  Grin

probably half a metre or so in length? give or take

Its somewhere inbetween blonde and flame-red... i'm not a redhead, but when i'm in the sun (so so rarely) its kindof a deep red colour.

It's wavey to the point of almost full curls, but it hangs in waves these days because of the weight of it's length.

Hi;

I just joined this group.

My hair is shoulder-blade length. I like wearing it loose,  in high pony tails and french braids. I've never tried a bun but I might soon, if I can figure out what to do with the hair sticks everyone uses.

I'm not afraid to push boundries.

Wow! I was just looking for some instruction on how to do a fishtail braid. I found what I was looking for and so much more!

I just love to see long hair on a man (as long as it's neat and clean). My husband has waist length hair that is very thick, almost black with a few white hairs. I enjoy playing with his hair and braiding it (French and English braids) but never got the hang of the fishtail braid. Now that I have the instructions, I should be able to do it with a little practice.

It's so good to see that there are men out there who like wearing their hair long.

I will try to get some pics that I can post next time hubby is home. (He's a long haul truck driver)

What kind of elastics do you use for your ponytails and/or braids?

I like to us the scunci brand large think & thin no damage elastics.  I prefer the lighter brown colors that match my hair.  I also like to use scrunchies sometimes

Glad to hear you are using elastics that don't damage the hair.  Have you ever seen or tried Bunjii ponytailers?  The khaki is a great color for light brown, dark blonde hair.  I also like the chestnutty brown.

My hair is 24" using the measure-from-the-hairline technique. I don't like the term 'BSL' because, for various reasons, many people don't wear a bra. Instead I prefer the term 'MBL' (mid-back length) because everyone has a 'mid-back'. The longest part of my hair just reaches my mid-back. Or, to put it another way, I can touch the tip of my ponytail when I twist my arm behind my back  Grin.

I wear my hair loose whenever I can, though lately I've noticed it is taking longer to detangle it afterwards. I wear various ponytails, preferring the nape-of-neck tie. I like Bunjii's. I also have a nice silver ponytail cuff.  For sleep and exercise I wear a topknot. I regularly wear a low Bee-Butt bun. I'm trying to learn other bun styles. I have a pair of Chapstix on the way and they could help with the bun situation. I've just finished some experiments with braids that had great results.

Damaged hair tends to tangle more than healthy hair. How do you wash, and what are you using for conditioners?

I know you've been growing out your hair without trimming it, but to some extent this will resolve itself after your hair becomes long enough for you to trim off the damaged part and even up your ends.

I've made an effort to take good care of my hair but I know it is easy to inadvertently do things that cause a lot of damage. I wash my hair every two or three days. I was using Aussie products but I've been experimenting with L'Oreal Vive (shampoo and conditioner). I even rinse with apple cider vinegar (ACV) after shampooing. I let my hair air dry. One recent change is that I went from using leave-in conditioners (either Infusium 23 or Paul Mitchell 'The Conditioner). For the last couple of weeks I've been trying to use only Jojoba oil. It doesn't always give me the control I need (but it does leave my hair nice and soft). The tangles I've found have been at the ends, as if my hair was being whipped by the wind. I can't see all my ends (those of you who wear bifocals can relate) but the ones I can inspect look ok (no splits). There are high-resolution pictures of my hair on my website. Maybe I need a change in my routine or even a trim? I appreciate all advice!

Gollan, there are two excellent leave-in conditioners that are silicone-free which many longhairs swear by: Giovanni's Leave-in, and Beauty Without Cruelty's Leave-in.  When I do full-hair washes, I wash, condition, rinse like usual, then gently squeeze out the excess water.  Then I use about a quarter-sized amount of one of these two leave-ins, running it thru all of my hair's length from about neck down.  You can see that one bottle of leave-in can last a long time, as you probably wouldn't require more than a dime-sized amount.  Maybe this might help.

Good luck,
Jennifer Eve

Mine is 3/4 of the way down my back!! I'm going for waist length hair. I love wearing my hair down most of the time. I love how it feels hanging down my back and on my chest. I've had longhair for 15 years or so... I cut it all off in August 2000 because it had become very damaged due to using "sun-in", (i can't believe i ever used that....) I immediately started regrowing it, since then it has grown longer than i've ever had it, plus i love my natural dark brown color!!! The longer it gets the more i get inspired to just grow it and grow it!!!!

Next stop butt length!!!!

next month, August 17th to be exact... will be the 4 year anniversary of me cutting off my shaggy long blonde mane to a normal haircut.  I did get another cut on November of 2000 to get the rest of that sun-in damaged hair off, soooo I guess my l'm around 3.75 years growth!! I think when i hit 4 years I'll get a minor trim, then it's on to waist length!!!!

BTW, great site!!!

Keep it Long!!!!

My hair is about 2 to 4 inches past my collar now. The back is shoulder length the front is to my mouth. And the sides are almost to my shoulder.

I don't measure my hair in inches or Centimeters, it would take an agonizing long time to reach my goals then.

Im at 13 months from a shaved head and aiming for at least 2 years growth. I will problaly have a trim at 1.5 to 2 yrs growth to even out everything.

My hair is about 12" long, hangs a little past my shoulders, it's brown and wavy, almost curly.  It's getting hard to manage and I've been thinking of cutting it.  I like it, but I ride a motorcycle and the longer it gets the harder it is to keep healthy.  I never use anything on it except a brush and washing it.  Anyway, I don't want to cut it, but I wanted to find something besides a rubberband to fix it with, so I searched the internet and found this site.  I'm more optimistic that I can find something that will work for me.

Hi & welcome!

Have you heard of HairGloves?  They are a leather or fabric wrap for your ponytail.  The leather ones were the originals and I believe were designed specifically for motorcycle riders.

  Hello,

My hair is golden blonde and is now 32" long.  I just
recently trimmed off some 4-5".  I would like to let it grow to the bottom of my butt, if it will cooperate!  I love beautiful long hair on women and men very much.
I will send in a picture as soon as I learn how.  Thanks for all the good tips here.

Mine's just above the bottom of my shoulderblades (not sure how else to describe it), I'm growing it to my waist though. Here's the most recent picture of me with it down:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/SuperZenki/Cool%20People/Robbie_3.jpg

It looks like a mullet in there, but it's not, it was just the length (that pic's months old, when my hair was just past my neck). I wear any style, common on men or not: down, ponytail (usually high or mid), bun, braids, you name it.

Message to Liam no 5.

Firstly let me say hi to a fellow Brit.

You should wear your hair how you like and not take any notice of who is around you and how they will react. it's your hair and your life. Don't worry about what others will think, so long as you are not hurting other people I think we can all do exactly as we please in this life. If they say anything derogatory take it that they are jealous and wear your hair with pride. Go for it.

Message to SuperZenki.

Good for you, having the courage to wear your hair how you like. I've said before, too many of us worry about what other people think of us and that stops us doing a whole lot of stuff we would love to do. I used to be like that but now, as I have got older, I realise that I can do whatever I like. So long as you consider your fellow human beings and are kind and considerate to them then you can get away with almost anything.

I always wear my hair down, many reasons really but I am no good at up-do's. I want to celebrate my long hair and show it off to other people, otherwise I might just as well cut it. If I want to get it out of my way for any reason then I put it in a scrunchie low on the back of my neck. Does the trick for me, particularly when I'm eating!!!!

Hi Jules,
As fate would have it I ran into my sister today at my grandmother's and she had her digital camera with her!!! Shocked  So I asked her to take a pic from the back and a  front shot. Then  to send them to my e-mail address.  When I get them I can either forwardthem on to BB or try to figure out how to post them here.
Thanks for asking and I have been a long time admirer of your hair Smiley
As soon as she sends them to me I'll send them.  With this crazy weather I have no curls so it is straight.  I think when the hot icky weather changes I'll have my curls back!!  At least you'll be able to see the length Tongue

Thanks for your kind comment about my hair. I am looking forward to seeing yours. I am hoping to get some more pics of my hair next week at a family gathering and I will try and post them on here somehow. Not sure how to post them though BB did walk me through it last time but I think my hubby has a web site where I can place them and then get them from there onto this site. Anyway, I will try. I must get my tubes made too mustn't I!!!

Welcome to the long hair club!  Sorry that you felt the need to cut your hair for someone else.  But now you can grow it and enjoy it for yourself.

Good luck with your hair growing!

welcome mustang. glad to hear you are growing your hair again. I had mine cut a little while ago and now wish I hadn't but it needed to be done as the ends were getting a bit thin and split. I'm now about an inch below bsl and counting.
Jules.
ps should get a more recent picture posted. Will see if I can.

biker braid, am I right in saying you have recently posted your picture. I am sure I haven't seen it before, though I haven't been on the site in a while. Your hair is really beautiful, so thick and long and it looks lovely wavy, mine is almost as wavy as yours but doesn't look as good as yours. That's why I use straighteners!!!

My hair has grown back past my waist now to the top of my butt after a five inch trim..  I guess it is about 33" long again now. Keep it growing.

Right! Now I've put it in the message not sure if it will change from the old picture. Sorry guys I am sort of changing the subject by using this subject matter but it would still be nice to hear from a lot more guys with long hair. It takes courage for a man to wear his hair long because there are so many biased people out there. I love long hair on men. It shouldn't be long hair for women and short hair for men. It grows so why cut it because society says you should.

Jules,

In the town in which I live, there is a guy with below buttlength hair and me with waistlength hair.  We are probably the only two long haired men around unfortuneately!  I wish more men would jump on the bandwagon too.   I will keep mine long from now on.
