Depending on how much damage has been done to his hair, you may not be able to make it soft again.  But here are a few things to try.

1.  Try a deep conditioner.
2.  Use an oil (jojoba, coconut, or olive oil) each night on the ends.
3.  Use shampoos and conditioners that are designed for chemically treated hair - colored, permed or straightened.  These will be more gentle and usually provide more moisture to the hair.

Hi i would suggest leaving conditioner on all night and after washing and drying use shea butter or oil. This should help. In the long term frequent cuts every 6weeks may be needed as perming and straighting are the worst things you can do to the health of your hair as they breakdown the hair structure. So trims are a must.

Hi, Rosieeeee!  I recommend Ouidad products for curly hair.  You can get some from www.ouidad.com. ; Be sure to get some Deep Treatment, and maybe some Quench moisturizing shampoo & conditioner.

He probably will need a trim, also.  The damaged ends cannot be repaired-they have to be cut off.

Good Luck-let us know how it works out!!!
