My dad is an old longhair who never gets comments about his hair because he's just so wierd that having long hair is the least of it!  (for example, when his eyebrows started to gray and grow out of control he trimmed them like horns!)  He wears his hair down a lot and he says, 'having long hair is sort of like being constantly attacked by hanging moss.'

My buddy Bacon started growing his hair out in high school and never stopped, and it's classic length now, thick and blond and straight. It was the best thing he ever did.  His hair is so thick it sticks straight out from his head until it's at least three inches long, so you can imagine how silly he looked with a traditional short haircut. When people ask him why he grew it so long he says, "I look silly with short hair, and if I'm going to grow it out, why not see how long it will get?"
