cutting my own hair
Oct 23rd, 2006 at 10:48pm

When my brother Mike died I was so upset and out of my mind with grief I decided to do something crazy to myself to express how bad I was feeling. I put my hip length hair into a pony tail and cut it off at the nape of my neck. Then I sat in the shower for an hour and cried because I didn't feel any better. I just had to feel something besides this horrible loss of my brother.
At the wake for my brother people were shocked and tried to say positive things. I know it looked aweful.
I haven't cut it again since then, except for a big trim recently. It's waist length now. I still miss my brother, but I can deal with it better now. As my hair grew back I grew stronger.

(((((drammaw))))))  I too did some drastic things when my Mum died and I have found that as time goes on we heal and get stronger.  We never forget them and remembering the good times keeps them alive for us.  ...

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother.  A loss like that is never easy to get over (and I don't think you ever really get over the death of a sibling).

In many cultures, cutting your hair is a sign of honor and respect for the person that passed.  It shows your willingness to sacrifice for them and at the same time start over.

Keep good thoughts and memories of your brother.

oh drammaw,I'm sorry Cry it is beyond belief what you feel when you loose a sibling.  As time passes there is a feeling of knowing that your brother is watching over you and protecting you.  IT is an amazing feeling and one you cherish always.
