I'm very sorry! I'm okay, for the most part.  I've not been online that much lately, and when I have, I've been lurking on LHC for the most part :/.

the mister I was using was roughly one glug of EVOO, a few drops of each essential oil, and the rest of the bottle filled with water. Sorry I can't be more specific.  It worked for a while, and then my ends decided that they hated it and started rebelling. I think pretty soon, I'm going to have to go and get that trim, although I've been considering doing it myself using Feye's self trimming method.

Things have been pretty tight financially lately, and I've been stressed and really just... not talkative at all.  Due to rising gas prices (which makes everything else go up disproportionately) construction has pretty well come to a grinding halt in Baton Rouge, which, of course, means no stair rails, balconies, etc are being sold... which means that for the most part, Paul is out of work... Mostly selling jambalaya pot stands (think it's a cajun thing, lol), garden trellises and rose-arbors to local stores. It's enough to survive on, but... I'm still worried. I'm sure we'll get through this rough time, but... I don't yet know how.

The good news I suppose, with all this reclusiveness, is that I have mostly finished a new dress (a rather modified version of mccalls' M5499). I'll post pictures of it when I'm done with it. I also have made a skirt out of the same material, and a design I came up with when I couldn't sleep one night. It is remarkably similar to a skirt I had been planning to make, only... instead of 6 1/2 yards, it took 3 yards exactly, and left almost no wasted material. It's a 12 panel/12inset triangly thing skirt... and has quickly become my favorite single thing to wear. I love this fabric, btw. In some lights it's a mousey grey like in the photo below.. in others it is brown even olive green.  I bought 11 1/2 yards of it on the 1$ rack at walmart a few months ago, and have been trying to figure out what to do with it.   BTW: another great thing about being short: the dress that was supposed to take 8 1/2 yards, with my sleeve modifications and shortening of the dress, only took 5 1/2. Theoretically, i have enough to make another matching skirt! i don't think I will though, I'll find some other use for it.

...~and no, I'm not growing sideburns, I swear... it's just a weird shadow!~

Hair has been... blah. Hating everything new that i've tried, so I've gone back to my old stand by of Pantene Ice Shine. Apparently, I'm a hardcore conehead... as soon as I want back to it from the low-cone S&C, my hair was happy, shiny, smooth, soft, etc. I, however, have been in a 'braid it and ignore it for several days' sort of mood for the past few weeks, which has lead to quite a bit of pokey ends and breakage. I wish my hair didn't have to suffer for my moods, but I've been tempted to whack it back to waist length, so perhaps it's better that it's out of my sight for now.

Thanks for your concern though, trish Smiley *hug*  for the most part I'm okay.

I have a heck of a lot of catching up to do :/ Sorry for my prolonged absence. I'll try to do better, I promise!

Well, Paul and I gave up on the idea of staying here. his ex-stepmother is taking control of the house as of september 15, and selling it. We've got to be out sept. 15 so that she can get the loan she needs to buy her 'dreamhouse'.  Nowhere to go around here, no jobs, so we're going to go stay with his mom in outside of Atlanta,  GA, and help her remodel her newly purchased 'unique fixer-upper' of a house. It'll be nice... A fresh start in an area that we've got friends and family in to give us a hand, without all the problems and drama of the baton rouge area to tie us down. I'll also be closer to my parents, grandparents, and friends that I had to leave behind a few years ago.

(And yes, I'm trying to put a positive spin on the fact that we're being thrown out of our home, being made homeless, in effect, so that his stepmother can buy her own house. Must. Not. Do. Violence........)

Life is a whirlwind, at the moment, trying to keep on an even keel mentally, packing, hauling off scrap iron (there's plenty of it here, and it's worth near-record prices), planning, stressing, and definately not getting enough sleep.

My hair's doing well. I'm at 35.75, roughly. Once it gets to 36, I'm going to maintain there for a year, or until I can't stand it anymore, and trim off much of the bleachy, damaged bits.

I did my first self-trim a few months ago... I cut off about 1.5"-3" (went from straight to u-shaped) - it went from 34.75" wet... to 35" dry (I measured, let my hair dry, and then trimmed and re-measured, so the two measurements are about 4 hours apart). I'm still not sure how that happened. I mean, I know for a fact I cut it that far, it had pretty blunt ends in the slightest of U's...  and yet it didn't lose any length.... But hey, I'm not complaining.

I've gotten a few hair compliments recently, that just made my day. Once, I was walking into a store with my hair down, and the cashier just looked at my hair and her jaw dropped. "wow, your hair is LONG!" in a tone of admiration.   I just grinned and said, "Eh, it's getting there!" and winked.  The other time, I was at a different store, with my hair in a bun (so the ends were hidden) buying some groceries, and the cashier asked "Is that your natural color? It's very pretty!" She was dissapointed when she found out it was my natural color, because she was hoping it was dyed, since she wanted the color for herself Smiley  I couldn't stop grinning for a few hours.

Aww, its nice to hear from you!  I'm sorry you've been removed from your home, and glad you'll be nearer to friends and family.  Hang in there and take deep breaths!

I'm glad to hear your hair is still growing long!

Good luck with the move!

Sorry about you having to leave your house. At least you will be closer to family. I don't think I could move far from mine. In your last picture your hair looks great!

Hey, great to hear from you!   Smiley  I think you're doing the smart thing in putting a positive spin on your move to GA.  Change IS good, even if we can't always see it while we're in the middle of the whirlwind.  *hugs*  Keep your chin up, babe.   Cool

Thanks, L&Lx3! For those keeping track, here's an updated length picture: I don't recall the date, but it was at the very end of July or the beginning of August.

...

I've noticed that my virgin hair, as it's grown out, has done some surprising things. For one... it's bloomin' curly! All of my baby pictures show hair that was 1c at most. Now, all of my shed hairs, expecially the ones shed during showers are a 3a, 3b... You can see a bit of the curl pattern in this photo, where it's wet.

...

When it dries, the curl falls out and becomes as you see in photo #1 . I'm getting a copy of the curly girl handbook in the mail soon, so who knows? Maybe I will be joining the curly crowd soon!

The virgin hair is also surprisingly coarse.  Not to mention, in the right (wrong?) light, it looks purple-tinged! Photographic proof:

Sometimes it looks like this :

...

But... Sometimes it looks like this:

...

In that picture, you can clearly tell the three-toned nature of my hair, which is odd. After I bleached, I didn't dye again (besides the purple, of course)... So there ought not to be a red section there... and yet, there is. Emichee, over on LHC had the same thing happen - her hair grew in off colored for a while after ceasing to dye, too. Weird, huh?

Thanks for sharing these new pics!  Your virgin color is gorgeous!  If you want to encourage your curls, the CG handbook will help you!  Also, using styling products helps the curl not fall out.  I use gel everytime I wash, which is 2 times a week.

Your hair looks great! Cheesy

Sorry about your having to move, but you seem to have a great attitude about it.  I find that it helps a bit when you can (or at least try to) put a postivie spin on bad things that happen...especially when you have no control over them. Wink

Ooh, and we'll be neighbors too!  I hope you like it here in Georgia! Smiley

Your hair is looking fantastic!  Keep up the good work.

I too found that as my hair grew longer waves/curls developed that were nowhere in evidence when it was shorter.  Just one of life's little surprises.

Good luck with your move.  Being closer to friends and family is a good thing - I'm sure it will all work out for you.
