Herbal Essence TV Ad
Jul 11th, 2007 at 2:42pm

Have any of you seen the Herbal Essence ad on TV with the biker guy?  It is "Great!!".

It starts with a gal with limp hair, a bit more than shoulder length.  She then shampoos with the new shampoo (full body - or something like that).  The next shot is of her with beautiful, bouncy blonde hair.  A biker guy is shown looking at her, he turns his head and his long dark braid is shown.  She gives him the shampoo.  The next shot is of the big biker guy (still in his black leather) with absolutely GEORGEOUS, full, bouncy long dark hair.  He has a huge grin on his face.

It is hysterical, but at the same time a great ad showing guys want good looking hair too.  (I'm sure I've left out significant details to the ad, but I've only seen it once - anyone else have more to add?)

I haven't seen it, but I'm definately going to keep an eye out!

I'm actually thinking about going back to HE's products for a while... it seems my hair is in revolt against pantene.

I loved the commercial.  Unfortunately my hair does not like Herbal Essences.

i just saw that ad today...OMG, that is funny.  I love it.

Tex, about your hair not looking like that...hold on...let me see if I can find the quote from Dove:

"Ever wonder why your hair never looks like the thick, lustrous tresses you see on TV?  That is because the hair you see is oftern anything but real.  A small army of stylists iron hair straight (so the cuticle lies flat for extra shine), spritz it iwht water (to plump up the shaft), sew in  hair extensiong (to add extra volume) and otherwise curl, trim and tease locks into submission.  Fingers run through each silky strand of hair in slow motion for extra bounce and fullness.  Afterward, computer genererated highlights and shine are often added and the hair is digitally enhanced...."  The rest is a promo for Dove so I will stop there.

Now, I recently read an article about how woman are causing premature hair loss by doing all this stuff to their hair...think of the bald patches on Brittany Spears when she shaved  (God Gawd Woman!!!).  So think of this...we here on LL try to treat our hair with care and respect...and  we may not look like and ad, but we have healthy hair that will not fall out from over processing and stuff.

So Smile...your hair is better than any of the models most likely. (although the ad is kinda cool)

I'm not big on television... I still haven't been able to catch  this ad!

So I did a bit of youtube searching...
I'm not sure if the original is done in an Aussie voice, but it's the only non Thai one they had.... I Love it!

BB, funnily enough, the ad I saw was the one that K found.  I guess there are two floating around out there.  I will be looking for the one you saw.

BB, I saw the same ad you did.  I haven't watched TV in a while, so I haven't seen it lately.  I've just gotten back from several days at the beach.  I was careful to braid and condition and soak it with fresh water before swimming so I don't think I did too much damage to my hair.

I did something about a year ago that lightened it a lot.  I thought it was the time I spent at the beach last year.  But the dark roots didn't lighten this year and I realized what bleached it out.  I used to live at 7,500 feet (where the air is thinner so less sun protection) and below the 20th parallel (where the sun is stronger).  And I did a lot of swimming at that time.  So the white streaks mixed with the lightened hair look blond, except for the first six inches where they mix with brown hair and look white!  Except that unless I am VERY careful about removing build-up the blond/white streaks go green!  Imagine dark brown, white, blond, and a yellowish-green all in stripes on the same head.  When, oh when, will the stupid stuff go completely white?

Thanks for the kind words, JD, but the last time I used Herbal Essences my hair dried out and tangled something awful.  I am not normally a "dumper", if I've paid for it I use it even when I don't like it.  But I dumped the HE.

lol Anyone who read my hair journal last year will remember my tumultuous affair with Herbal Essences.  Grin

Fortunately, I too had the good sense to dump them for good. Especially after they began marketing heavily to the Britney Spears crowd.  Tongue  I was ok with them years ago, when they were "over 99% natural and plant-derived" (since when are pearls, satin, silk, minerals, fruit and flowers considered herbs??), as well as organic, cruelty-free and all that jazz.
But since the Procter & Gamble takeover, their angle has changed 180° ...and in addition to the bright colours, fruity fragrances and lingo befitting the average 15-year-old girl splashed across each bottle, they might as well include trial sizes of Lip Smackers and free downloads from Hilary Duff's latest album.

Now, it's not that I object to any of the above IF you have a brand new product line and are open and honest from the beginning in your attempts to market to high school fashion victims and the early twenty-somethings still desperately clinging to the "fun, fresh" giggles of their youth.
BUT, when you attempt to plaster the "like totally tutti frutti" and "omigod, looook at me, I'm luscious" mantras onto an already existing product, with a name like Herbal Essences, not to mention a pre-established identity among the organic, nature-loving, tree-hugging, no-animal-testing crowd, you're really just asking for trouble...or confusion at the very least.

Just my take, anyway. My apologies for the rant, but I suppose it's been festering in my soul for a few years, waiting for an opportunity to leap out among the voices of every other dissolutioned "original" HE fan who now passes by their once beloved products in the store and shakes their heads, wondering WHYYY?!

Of course, I already realize that I am in the minority, so comments like "relic" and "get with the times, grandma" really aren't necessary. And disheartening as it may be to see what HE has become, I actually look at is as a critical blessing in disguise.
Like Texian Traveler, my hair was never such a fan of HE as my nose was, so the latest overhaul only served to cure what had been an unhealthy addiction from the start. Happily, the swirling vortex of intoxicating fragrance, pure plant extracts and mountain spring water has forever released me from its evil sway, and I have moved onto bigger, better (and far more age-appropriate) things.

Herbal Essences, pish! Nothing "herbal" about them! Grin

DISCLAIMER:::  Wink

Just making sure everyone knows that I am not necessary endorsing this product, I just liked the fact that they had a guy with long hair in it.  I am in Angel Spun's corner when it comes to this product line - it is amazing how much a product can change over the years and end up not even fitting its name.  I have never been able to use HE due to the perfumes they use - so I can't attest to the shampoo quality.

I knew what you were saying.  I agree with you.  Just wish I could get my hubbie's hair to look like that.  Both he and my daughter have long, gorgeous, sandy hair.  But neither will listen to me about consistent conditioning.  So even though both of theirs grows faster than mine and is longer than mine and I certainly will lose the race to the waist, mine won't look like crap when it gets there!   Tongue  I take comfort in that as I watch their ever lengthening locks.

Haha, that ad was a favorite of my family for quite some time.  Grin The comments about Herbal Essences got me thinking of the times my mom used to buy the rose scented ones for my sister and I. The bottles were clear with a picture of whatever the shamoo smelled like on the inside. Are these the older original ones?

Yep, those were the older bottles.
And regardless of what was on the bottle or in the formulas, they all smelled the same.

The only differences in the fragrances of HE in the past were the different lines. The classic Herbal Essences line had its own scent, the Rainforest Flowers line had its own scent, Fruit Fusions had its own scent and the short-lived Citrus volumizing line had its own scent.

In the new generation of HE, every pair of S&C is scented differently.

haha I heart that advert!!! I never was a fan of Herbal Essences. I think my mother used to use the Aussie with Hops version of Herbal Essences in her 30s (in my early teens) and so that smell brings me back to that time of my life.
I love that they show a guy with long locks, but Herbal Essences (just like Garnier Fructisse) is notorious for using hair extensions and even WIGS in their adverts. Just my side of the story.
I want healthy gorgeous hair, just the next 6 months are going to be a LOT of trial and error with a hundred different products that I'm not looking forward to.

I love that advert though. haha Favorited it.
