Hello all, I am getting married!

Just beginning the planning, really, but we have our venue chosen for our Ceremony/Reception/Photos.  It's a renovated barn with a museum and antiques all from the Victorian era.  Our clothing will be somewhat Victorian inspired but this will be a far cry from an historical wedding.  Not planning on a veil or tiara... might like to include flowers or something in my hair, would like it to be mostly down but with a partial up-do.

You guys are the hair experts, so I'm asking you. My hair is only shoulder length right now but it grows super fast and it will probably be about mid-back if not a little longer by my wedding day (October 2009).

Thanks.  Happy Easter/Ostara/First Day of Spring!

Cheers,
~Dee~

Hello, welcome and congratulations, Daughter_of_Fire!

Have you thought about renting movies from that era for ideas?

In the recent remake of "Pride and Prejudice" there are some nice hairstyles in my opinion.  I forget the character's name, the eldest daughter.  I like her hair the best.

They have amazing updos. Something with laces and pale flowers maybe?

Someone knew I would comment on this.  Wink

Hello there, Daughter Of Fire.
Seems to me that the look you're going for is more "romantic" than anything else. Technically, if you're not wearing a veil, it's not going to be the least bit Victorian since women of that era always attempted to copy the queen.

If you're bent on wearing your hair down, you might want to try a half-up. You could try "topsy tailing" the part that is pulled up a few times and add little flowers or pearls for garnish. Curl the length and whatever parts are hanging down.

If you don't already have curly/wavy hair, you could curl it (safely - there are many methods that do not involve heat), then gather it up with one hand and just replace your fingers with bobby pins to hold your hair this way. I've seen Hollywood stylists do this and it looks pretty amazing.

You could also look through magazines for examples to show to your stylist to give them a general idea of what you're after. Professionals can do gorgeous styles with flowers! If you're styling your own hair, practice a lot!

Congrats and best of luck to you.  Smiley
