What to use?
Jul 12th, 2008 at 7:10pm

So I have been doing the acv rinses and the oil treatments with olive oil, but when I went to the store to buy more, I saw that there is acv that isn't distilled, so that got me wondering if I was supposed to be using that. Then in the isle for the olive oil, I saw that there was pure, light tasting, and extra virgin, so again I was wondering if I was using the right one. I not only use olive oil for my hair, but in my skin cleanser to.

I think most people use extra virgin (abbreviated EVOO) for their hair since it is purer.  I don't know what kind of ACV is better... probably if you hold up the bottles to compare, and one seems to have less gunk in the bottom than the other, or one just looks cleaner, that would probably be better... but I don't know.

I use either Apple Cider vinegar or White Distilled vinegar.  I've never really noticed a difference between the two other than the ACV smell does not seem to last as long as the WDV.

Well, I found the raw unpasturized acv in the organic isle at my grocery store. It does look a little cloudy, but I never really knew there was anything but distilled vinegar, wether it be white or ac. It's undiluted acv. I am gonna try the non-distilled. The olive oil, I found in the regular isle. I am also gonna try the olive oil that says pure, after my pre-made stash runs out.

Presently, I'm using ACV and EVOO, but will soon be switching to DWV and ELOO.

Really, it all depends on what your hair likes best, so the best advice I can give you is to try whatever strikes your fancy.

I just wasn't sure if unpasturized acv was something that would be bad on hair, and I should just use the distilled. I used the unpasturized acv as an astringent on my face to kill bacteria, etc.. and it didn't do any different.

I don't think it will hurt your hair, but it might be hard to get out if you don't rinse after the acv rinse itself.  The cloudy ness in the organic acv is most likely the "mother".  If I'm cooking, I use the organic w/the mother.  For my hair, I use a jug from wal-mart or the grocery store.

What's the mother?
"Mother of vinegar" is a term used to refer to the mass of scum that forms on top of cider when alcohol turns into vinegar, or to the cloudy substance that sometimes develops in stored vinegar. It is actually bacteria and yeast cells that have died.

When I started growing my hair long, I began w/EVOO 'cause that's what I had in the house.  Then jojoba 'cause BB uses it and I respect her wisdom.  It made my hair crunchy.  I've ended up using camellia the most, and am currently using it.

Hmm, I guess I'll just have to use it and see. I haven't tried jojoba in my hair, but I do use it, and things like flax seed oil, and castor oil in the oil cleanser I make for my face. I did notice that a big jug of distilled acv costs about $5, so that wouldn't be a bad way to go either.
