Awww you son sounds like a sweetheart Smiley  Do you know the names of the cacti?  If so I can give you a hand with the care.

No, but I'll ask hub to take pictures of them over the weekend.  Thanks, perhaps we can find out something together. Smiley

I got more to add to my jungle.  I got a orchid!!!  Mind you its not doing so good but I hope I an get it going again.  It had gotten a chill and lost it's flowers, it was cheap so we shall see... Undecided  Found a coffee plant and got it just for fun. Cheesy  Don might make his jokes about the plants but he has been breathing alot better since we got them.  It has helped his asthma a great deal.

Time for a Tip Smiley

Now that the weathers turning cold and the heat is on it is time to mist your plants more often.  Also the use of a humidifer will help them (along with your hair and skin!)  This is also the time when cacti are watered less or not at all until the spring.

My ever growing collection is getting bigger!  I found a cute mini staghorn fern and a drawf umbrella tree.  I got to ask Don's step mother about her african violets.  She said she just waters them--- oh well! she has them in a lovley plant stand that holds nine plants....drool!  Today I got some more soil and some african violet food.  I am in competion with the lady arcoss form me to see who has the best flowers..evil grin..lol!  it getting harder and harder to find good potting soil.  Tongue

Ooo, I can give some tips for African violets!  --I'm actually quite good at growing them (amazingly enough!)

African violets should be kept in indirect sunlight.  They do not like to be moved, so pick a spot and leave them alone.  It doesn't matter which direction you water from  (the top or the bottom), just be sure to NOT get water on the leaves, as it causes the leaf to wither and die.  Also never touch the leaves with your hands; the natural oil on human skin causes damage to the plant.    Smiley

The mutant plant that lives on my office desk.  I call her Lucretia.   Cool  --And this photo was taken a few months ago, so she's grown even more.

Thanks for the tip, Lisa. Wink

Today, I had to repot two philodendons that had outgrown their pots.  I combined them and put them together one larger one.

Currently, I'm looking for 2 plants to put in my cat's bathroom.  There are no windows in there so my search has come up with no results so far.  If any of you ladies have any advice... Smiley

That is some nice plant, Trisha! Cheesy  I like your desk too. Smiley

Trisha, that is an awesome plant!  Thanks for the tips on the African Violets.  I had a plant at my desk at work a while back.  It seemed healthy, but after it lost the flowers that were on it when I bought it, it never flowered again.  It was definitely growing, and I occasionally would pinch off older leaves when they got too big for the pot.  It was in a window, but it had exterior shades over it, so while the light was bright there, it was indirect.  The leaves would grow in the direction of the window, and I would occasionally just rotate the pot so that it got light more evenly.  Eventually, I moved desks and the plant stayed in the window to continue getting light, but I forgot to water it, so it died.  Sad  Do you know why it wouldn't grow new flowers?

Michelle, thanks for mentioning that you pinch off the older (and usually) dead flowers and leaves, as I'd forgotten about that.   Smiley   I don't have an African violet right now but mine did the same as yours--stopped blooming.  I believe they *need* African violet food in order to continue producing blooms.  There's probably an enzyme or something missing from regular potting soil that the food adds back in.  But then I think there is also potting soil designed especially for the African violets and it most likely contains that sump'n-sump'n that they crave.  Gee, now I want one!!!  LOL   Wink

La Diosa, no prob! Smiley  Hmmmm no windows..that a tuff one!  Perhaps a peace lily that you can place in some filtered light for a few hours a day before place it back in the kittys bathroom?

Trisha, great tip for African Violets! Smiley Smiley  Your Golden Pothos is awseome!

Michelle, I heard that a pinch of salt in the water will start the flowering again in African Violets. Wink

I'm sure that I wouldn't want to be bothered with moving a plant everyday, but thanks for the suggestion. If I figure something out I'll let you know. Smiley

La diosa,

I'm not entirely sure what you mean about your "cat's bathroom," but if it is what it sounds like, be careful about what plants you put in there.  Cats are notorious for chewing on plants (mine sure does), and many, many plants are toxic to cats and dogs.  You can find lists of toxic plants online.

You could always plant cat grass or catnip in there.  Catnip's a pretty plant, and a lot of cats love it fresh rather than dried.  I don't know about the sun requirements, though.  You might have to check on that one.

You might already know all this, but I wanted to give you a heads-up just in case.   Wink
