Well, I am back.  Have been very occupied.  Last week, we went to Galena, Ill. for a mini-vacation.  Lovely resort town in northwestern Ill, just off the Mississippi.  We stayed in a bed and breakfast, in a cabin.  We were there last Dec, when it sleeted and snowed all the time we were there.  The breakfasts were fabulous, the surrounding countryside is glorious.  Saw hawks, humingbirds, finches, cardinal, and blue jays.  Our cabin was 750 sq. ft. with a hot tub in the corner.  We shopped in the town both days and ate out for lunch and dinner.  Haven't had the courage to weigh myself.  Smiley

Week before last, my mom and aunt drove up to spend 4 days with me.  We shopped all day and played canasta in the evenings.  It was a lot of fun.  My mom is 78 and my aunt is 86, but you'd never know it.  They both look and think at least 10 yrs. younger.

After the last weekend I wrote about at Bristol, the next weekend was hot, too.  Had heat rash again, burt not as bad,so I did drive home Sun nite.  Invested in Gold Bond powder on the advice of my FoF friends, who said it was the best thing for chafing.

This weekend was cooler and we were very busy.  Lots of customers and lots of sales.

My hair seems to be behaving better.  The shedding seems to be slowing down.  Have been rinsing and conditioning every day.  Will measure at the end of this month and see where I am.

School starts tomorrow.  I am teaching an 8am class, so will sign off.  I am NOT a morning person.  Roll Eyes

Thank you, Isabelle.  It was a very good day.  I have 2 classes of 22 each that meet at 8am and 9:35 am.  They all seem like good kids and one student is back in my class after dropping out last semester.  I always take that as a compliment, as he could have taken someone else's class.

Tonite I will go to the first Chorale rehearsal.  That will be fun.  I do love to sing.

Just got back from teaching the second day of classes.  Kids are loosening up and contributing more, so things are going well.  The only thing I was dissatisfied with was that someone had rearranged the desks in the room I teach in at 8am.  That annoys me.  Angry Now I will never learn the students' names because they were in different seats.

Granted, I have only been a teacher's assistant, but as far as learning the students' names, it might help to look at who raises their hand or says "here" during roll call.

It helps to try and memorize what they look like, how they typically dress, or to isolate a specific feature...ie. that's the girl with the beautiful, long, blonde hair, that's the skater kid with the glasses, etc. etc. That way you have a visual to associate with a name.

Also, if someone has a name that's difficult for you to pronounce, remember what they look like while you're asking them, and write their name down phonetically somewhere if you have to. You will most likely not forget after that. Wink

Lastly, you should make a conscious effort to say the student's name when calling on them instead of just saying, "yes" or "you." That will definitely help when many students raise their hands or talk simultaneously. If you can't remember, they'll remind you, but eventually you'll be on more familiar terms. HTH

Okay, I am back.

Thanks, Angel, for the suggestions.  I do all those things, and call the roll every day for the first 2 or 3 weeks, being sure to look at every face.

Measured my hair yesterday and still at 23".  Have been eating better, and taking vitamins, and using only sulfate-free shampoos.  Have tried conditioning every day, oiling, and cut down on the vinegar rinses, and still no growth.  I am not happy at all with the way my hair looks and is behaving right now, so have been putting it up under the Tony Pony pieces.  To hell with it.  If I didn't know that it looks like hell short, I would cut it.

Bristol is over and I don't know how I feel about it.  It was a lot of work, since I worked 10-hr days every day of the last 9 weekends, but I miss all the people I didn't get to talk with as much as I would have liked to.  One of the oldest participants and a friend to all died Mon am, which made the last day somewhat surreal.

My hair is behaving somewhat better.  I have gone back to vinegar rinses and oiling, and stopped conditioning every day.  It is long enough for a decent ponytail, now that the top layers are growing out and doesn't look too bad.  The problem is that now that the top is long (14") I have to be careful of the cowlick at the right crown.  If it doesn't lay just right when drying, it looks like a small bald spot.

I have been wearing the Tony Ponys because of the cowlick, but will see my stylist and ask her about what to do on Sat.

Have really missed you all.

Thank you Sakina, Curlgirl, Isabelle and Angel. Uncle Ho will be sorely missed.  He was a longtime member of FoF (Friends of Faire) and one of the founders, so to speak.  All the FoF member were teary-eyed on Mon.  He had a heart transplant about 9 mos. ago and was doing really well until 4 wks ago, when he picked up a drug-resistant infection that his doctors coudln't pinpoint.  I saw Sheila (his wife) on Sun (she was at Faire for a couple of hours, not garbed) and could see in her eyes that he was dying.

My classes are going fine.  The students are making their first speeches this week and doing surprising well.

Washed my hair this morning and thought that it seemed longer, so measured and it was!!  Only 1/4", but that is a good sign.  And a great relief.  Waist-length is still a possibility!  I threw out the L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner; my hair wasn't liking it all.  The Burt's Bees seems to be the best product and my hair behaves well with it--lots of body and curl.  So that it what I will stick with.

Saw my hairdresser yesterday for color and trim.  Asked her about the cowlick and she said that it is a natural part and since my hair is fine, it might be weighty enough now to always fall in that part.  So she layered the back a little, and my hair is looking better.  Of course, it always looks better just after I get it colored.
