Hi, I have not quit Longlocks!  I don't know why I got listed as an ex-member.   Huh  It just happened last week.  I had to re-register and used all the same info as the first time.  Thanks for asking, Michelle.

My mother-in-law died last Thurs. and I just got back from Philadelphia.  We flew Fri. to meet with the family and make some decisions, sign paperwork, start cleaning the apartment and things like that.  Her ashes will be interred at Arlington along with her husband's and we must wait for Arlington to notify us when that will be.  She was 93, and had been slipping mentally for the last year, then had a fall, and a mini-stroke, we think.  She just slipped away last Thurs pm.  We knew she was failing, but didn't espect it quite so soon.

Sakina, a bodice knife is a small knife that is carried in the bodice.  Many are functional: i.e., have sharpened blades, and are sheathed and carried against the skin, with just the tip of the grip showing.  Some are decorative, but not functional, so are not sheathed and often have flowers or figures rather than a traditional grip.  The first one I lost last year was brass and had a rose instead of a grip; the one I lost last Sun, was a good knife with a leather sheath.  I am really perturbed about that.  It will cost me a pretty penny to replace it.

Drear: My shedding stopped about 5 wks. ago.  I always shed in the spring, it was just late this year, I think because we had such a late, cold spring.  It usually lasts for 4 or 5 wks.

Now that I think about it, getting de-listed irritates me somewhat.  Angry  I lost all my correspondence, and I don't like being "Amethyst" again.

BTW, my sprain is getting better.  I have been trying on my shoes and boots and finally found a pair of boots I can wear that support my foot and ankle, don't hurt, and look much better than my old gym shoes.  Smiley  Things are looking up.

I'm glad you haven't quit LongLocks!

I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry about your bodice knives, they sound really cool.  Could you recommend a site for me to check one out-a functional one?  I understand they'd serve as a weapon, but would you also use one to eat with?

I'm glad you're healing, and that you've got footwear that works for you.

My costume will be Italian renaissance, scoop necked and an Empire waist with a solid dress or split to show the underskirt.  May not have a petticoat.  Do you make your own split bloomers?   Talk last Wednesday is my color might now be blue.  Ahhh!  I think I will buy some windwalker boots, but won't get them in time to wear for much of the season.  What color are yours?  How many buttons?

Take care!

Hi, Sakina, I am sorry, but I don't know any sites to buy knives.  You might check the various renfaire sites for lists of vendors and their links.  I always buy mine in person.  I think you could use one for eating.  Small knives were a pretty versatile item, according to what I've read.

I do make my own split bloomers because I have never found anyone selling them at faires.  The style is 18C, not 16C, but so convenient.  McCalls and Simplicity both had patterns.

My Windwalker boots are 3-button and wine with a leaf design in navy blue.  Mary told me that taller boots would be really hot, and Bristol can be in the 90's with high humidity in Aug., altho' that didn't happen this year.  I bought them 3 yrs ago, I think, and they look just as good as new when I clean them up.

Oh Mel, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL.  It's good to hear that your ankle is getting better though, and I'm glad you're still here!

Thank you, Drear and Michelle.  It's nice to know that you all care.

On another note, could my listing in Journals be changed from ex-member to whatever is appropriate?  Thanks.

I am really feeling unwanted being listed as an "ex-member" in the "Started by" column next to my journal.  I am having enough of a problem dealing with the coldest, darkest, wettest October in this area in 113 years.  You only have to tell me to go away once.  Are you seriously telling me that no one can fix that?

(((hugs)))  I'm sorry you're feeling that way.  I personally do not know how to fix it.  If you want to start a new journal you can at the thread page, on the right hand corner where it says "start new topic".

Don't go away!!

Do you have one of the natural light lamps?  Stay warm, OK?

Melusine,
You are not unwanted.  We love to have you here.  Unfortunately the software that is used to manage this forum has limited utilities for us to use to fix things that have gone astray.  I'm not sure what happened that would have set you to the status of ex-member.  This sometimes happens when we are doing a membership cleanup of inactive members.  If a member is deleted, they can re-register using the same name, but the posts that were made under the original user ID will remain with the ex-member notation.  We don't have any way to change that.

You could start a new journal and we could move all your posts from the original into the new journal.  That way you at least would not have the ex-member notation on the name of your journal.

I hope this helps explain things a bit.
