Isabelle and Drear:  My husband now thinks he is getting a cold.  He caught this at work and it lasts about 2 or 3 weeks, extreme fatigue, general body aches, headache and cough for 5-7 days, then a cold for another week or so.  He is going to work tomorrow, and I will keep an ear out for bronchitis.  Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Curlgirl:  The bodice I made about 4 yrs ago and is now 2 sizes too small.  Roll Eyes  Since I had the good sense to make it a side-lacer, with longer straps and modesty panels, I can still wear it.

Spent today working on other bodices.  Reboned one with sturdier boning and moved the straps so they wouldn't keep falling off my shoulders, lengthened the straps on another, and took up the shoulders on a third.  I am not sure about that one.  It tended to wrinkle at the waist, which I interpreted as being too long, and the shoulders had always been a little big, but now think I may have taken too much out.  At least, the wrinkle around the waist is much minimized, but it seems tight under the arms.  Sigh.  I will have to take the lining loose at the waist and make the armholes deeper, if it is.  It feels a little snug, but I won't know until I wear it if it needs altered again.

It is really nice to have time to do my own sewing.  I am having fun designing and redesigning.  Have got lots of projects in mind.  Wil keep you all posted.

On another note, I have checked the box indicating that I want to be notified or replies, but am not getting e-mails.  Anyone else have that problem?

...and judge too much! Roll Eyes  I'm not wiccan, but I haven't been quite sold on Christianity either. In a family like mine, that sort of revelation creates lot's of concern...and gossip. Roll Eyes

Hope your husband feels better soon. Smiley

Mel, I have wondered if you practiced Wicca as I thought I had seen your screen name before in my own explorations.  I don't practice Wicca but my spiritual leanings run to paganism.   Smiley

Hi, Michelle, I have been a solitary for 20 yrs.  Occasionally I go to rituals, but haven't found a group near me that I am comfortable with.

My husband is back at work, but still feeling tired.  We were going to have party this Sat for my birthday, but postponed it.  Now it looks like it will be the first weekend in Dec.

I found 1 skirt and bodice set, and 6 other bodices that I donated to the theater dept.  The director is fitting the madrigal singers with costumes, so these will come in handy, I am sure.

Just got back from Chorale rehearsal.  This is my second semester singing with the college chorale.  We are doing Messiah, among other selections.  The concert will be about 2 hrs. long.  I sing soprano.  If you want to see an interesting interpretation of Messiah, search for "Silent Monks singing Halleluia" on YouTube.  It is hilarious!

Put my hair up in the bun with curls today.  I really like that style.  It stays very securely and is very gentle on my hair.  No hairpins, just a scrunchie and hairstick.

Sorry you have to postpone your party.  That's a bummer!

Ooh, I love to sing madrigals!!  That costume department is very lucky!!!

I love to sing madrigals too!  I sang tenor with the boys in high school choir since there were too many girls and not enough boys in our tiny school.  Then in college my voice teacher got it in her head that I was a soprano...I never was comfortable singing that high - it hurt!  Anyhoo, I miss being in a choir.

We sure are a bunch of musical gals on this site.  Wouldn't it be neat if we could all get together?

I haven't sung choir since elementary school, but I do remember my teacher making sure I knew that I wasn't very good at it.  Tongue
So now I mostly stick with instruments. We should all get together and make the long-haired ensemble.

Hope your husband feels better soon, and here's wishing you Happy Birthday cheer, as well.  Wink

Thank you, Sakina and KNS, for the birthday wishes.  We are putting the party off until 12/12, and I plan to have the tree and all the decorations up by then.  So it should be quite festive.

I sang in my high school chorus, second soprano, because the director needed a strong voice there.  There were 2 competing firsts, so I didn't have a chance.  My range then was 3 octaves.  Didn't sing for several years after that, mostly due to lack of opportunity, and I had also started smoking.  I quit in 1988 (cold turkey!) while I was writing my master's thesis, then started singing again with a chorus while I was living in Iowa City working on a Ph.D.  Got to sing first soprano and do solos then.  Didn't finish the Ph.D. because you can't do a divorce at the same time.  So now I sing first with the JJC Chorale although I have lost the top 2 notes of my range, due to lack of practice, I hope.  I haven't gotten the courage to audition for a solo yet.  Will wait until next year, I think.  So, yes, we should put together a long-haired ensemble.  Smiley

Wore my hair up with a Tony Pony today, the short curly piece on the can-do combs.  It makes a cluster of short curls on the back of the head.  Will shampoo tomorrow, so must be sure to oil tonite.

Grin Former choir girl here too. First soprano, 4 octaves, whistle register into baritone, yada yada. Is there room for one more?

Congrats on quitting cold turkey. That's really amazing. So many try and almost as many fail. Good on ya, love. Smiley

Thank you, Curlgirl and Michelle for the birthday wishes.  Yes, it is the seventh, so tomorrow is the big day.  Getting good wishes from all of you makes up for having to put off the party.  Smiley

Angel, of course, there's room for one more.  Glad to have you.  Should we wear our hair loose for concerts, or in fabulous updos?  We can wear red and call ourselves The Rapunzel Chorus!  Wink

When people tell me I should give up this or that, like sugar or chocolate, I tell them I quit a 2 pack/day habit cold turkey and that's enough self-sacrifice for one lifetime.  Roll Eyes

Shampooed and conditioned with Garnier Fructis Curl and Shine with vinegar rinse today.  My hair is full and slightly curly, but feels a little dry.  I will wait and see how it does over the next two days.  GF isn't sulfate-free and I hadn't used it for several months, but had almost full bottles, so thought I would try it.  I had just bought it when I found Longlocks and decided to go sulfate-free.  Isn't that always the way things happen?  Roll EyesFortunately, GF at Walmart isn't expensive, so I won't feel too bad pouring it down the drain.

Speaking of WalMart, the one closest to me is under construction and is being turned into a SuperWalMart.  I am not pleased.  There was a little parking lot on the side of the store where I always parked because I could get into the store without getting blown to bits on a windy day, and it is often windy here.  So when they are done, that parking lot will be gone and I will have to park out front and brave the elements.  At least the store will be on a north-south axis, so the prevailing west winds won't be turned into a gale blowing past the store front, which is the case with the other store close to me.  It is oriented on an east-west axis, you can never get closer to the door than 50 ft., and the wind just shrieks past the doors.
