I so relate to you quiting cold turkey!!  I just passed my 25 year anniversary of being smoke-free.  I like you quit cold turkey.  Started when I was 10  years old Shocked Roll Eyes and quit when I was 22.  One of the best things I ever did for myself.

*Cheer*  I agree!   Grin  Give up chocolate!?  Perish the thought!

My husband gave up smoking a few years ago.  He'd just had his wisdom teeth out and was told by the dentist he couldn't smoke for two weeks.  He wanted patches to get him through and I ever so gently suggested that if he was going to stop for two weeks and go through with using the patches and everything that he might as well not start back up again.  So that's how he quit.

Kudos to you guys for being able to do it cold turkey!

Hah! You best not be taking my chocolate away from me! I've never personally smoked, but my sister and best friend did. Best friend tried quitting several times, and had to have doctor prescribed drugs in the end to fully quit. She's much happier now.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday, even if you had to postpone your party! Hope your husband is feeling better, too.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes.  You are really sweet.

My husband took me to Allgauer's at the Hilton for dinner.  With a coupon, of course, as it is a pricey restaurant.  We split a crab cake appetizer, which was within a hair of being as good as what you can get on the east coast.  I had a fabulous salad with bleu cheese dressing, a 10-oz medium rare filet with herbed mashed potoatoes, and creme brulee for dessert.  And I splurged and ordered a vodka collins.  The effect of that was interesting as I had taken my allergy meds about 2 hrs. before dinner.  Came home, went to bed at 9:30 and slept until noon today.

It has been a beautiful weekend.  Sun every day and temps in the high 60s and 72 today!  We have the windows open for fresh air. Apparently we had November's weather in October and are now getting October's weather in November.  Actually it was sunny pretty much all of last week.

Had a handyman working in the house last week.  He re-plumbed the toilet in the downstairs bath. The valve was corroded shut and it wouldn't flush.  He re-installed the rod in the entry closet and hung the folding door that fell down, regrouted the tile floor in the entry, and replaced the molding at the top of the stairs that my husband dragged off getting the tree downstairs last Christmas.  He re-caulked around the tub in the main floor bath and got the light over the kitchen sink working again.  It is nice to have all those things fixed, but I am used to a having lot of time to myself.  Having someone strange in the house, especially early in the am makes me cranky.

Will oil my hair tonite and shampoo tomorrow with the Burt's Bees.  It behaves better with Burts, I think.  After using the Garnier Fructis, it is both flyaway and limp.  So down the drain it goes.  I would offer it to my husband, but since it is for curly hair, he won't touch it.

Your birthday dinner sounds scrumptious!!!

Mu husband doesn't care what shampoo or conditioner he uses, just as long as he has some.

That sounded like a lovely birthday dinner! Just reading what you ate made me hungry.  Cheesy

And I completely agree about having strangers going bump in the morning. I hate it when strangers are futzing around in my house and I can't see what they are doing. I'd probably sit there and watch him the entire time.  Grin

Do you have a guest bathroom? That's where I usually put the unwanted shampoo and conditioner.  Wink

I didn't think of putting it in the guest bathroom.  I have a basket of toiletries in the guest bedroom--sample shampoos and conditioners, tooth brushes, toothpaste, hand cream, moisturizers, all the things I often forget when I travel.  Smiley

I am afraid to get on the scale, as I think I have gained back at least 5 of the 20 lbs. I lost last spring.

Shampooed and conditioned yesterday with Burt's Bees volumizing formula with vinegar rinse in between and I can't believe how much better my hair looked and felt.

Mon nite we went to a wine tasting with 2 couples we know and afterwards to dinner.  That was very expensive.  I expected it, as one of the wives spends $ like there is no tomorrow.  She is a dear friend but I am sometimes uncomfortable with not being able to return her generosity.

Shampooed this am with my usual: Burt's Bees Volumizing with vinegar rinse.  Actually remembered to oil last nite, which I have been forgetting lately.  Was supposed to get color and trim on Sat but had to cancel and will have to reschedule the reschedule for next Sat. because I will be busy then, too.  I can't go 6 wks between colorings.  I will look like a skunk with a blond streak.  Smiley

Speaking of hair   Roll Eyes, since last July the top and sides of my hair have grown about 3"  but there is no increase in overall length.  I will have to ask Kirstin (my hairdresser) if she is trimming the back shorter and letting the back and sides catch up. If she is, that is okay with me, although I don't recall having that conversation.

I looked at the sock bun video and it looks interesting.  I think I will try that, but am not sure how it will work since my hair is very fine.  I am not sure it will cover the sock.  If you have tried it with fine hair, I would appreciate your telling me how it worked.

Spent the weekend working for Pendragon at WindyCon, a science fiction convention.  This year's theme was Steampunk.  Saw some lovely Victorian dresses and met some very nice people.

Weather has turned cold and cloudy and is supposed to rain off and on thru Thursday.

melusine, I haven't tried the sock bun video version yet, but I'm willing to bet that if you have decent length hair, the extra wraps around the sock as per the video instructions will adequately cover the entire sock.
If it doesn't, you could always try lining the sock in a color that matches your hair, or using a colored hair donut.

Hi, KNS, I think you are right.  I'm sure my husband has an orphan black dress sock that I can use.

My husband is in the hospital.  Woke me up a 3am because he was so dizzy he couldn't stand up.  Took him to the nearest hospital and spent 6 hrs. there because our doctor had left the practice and we didn't know who the new doctor was, so had to wait until the office opened at 8:30 to find out.  Finally got the doctor, who wanted him admitted, but to a different hospital.  So off he went by ambulance, while I went home to sleep for a few hours.  I was just too tired to drive to the other hospital, then home again.  So far he has had 3 anti-vertigo meds, and none of them are effective.  The only thing that helps is valium which puts him to sleep. I went to the hospital for a couple of hours this evening and he said he will see a neurologist tomorrow.  The diagnosis is benign vertigo.  Which is good, but something has to stop it.  He can't even sit up without the room spinning.

I am going to bed.  Will write more later.
