Advice needed
Jan 4th, 2010 at 1:09pm

Advice needed - what do you do when you read blatant lies on someone's Classmates profile?  AngryYou know the real story, do you call them on it or just ignore it? Both of them happen to be former (well one still is) brothers-in law.
The one is basically lying about his own life but the other is trashing my sister (without mentioning her name) It was a messy divorce (no children, thank the Goddess) but he dragged it out for three years to beat her down on her settlement and alimony. He also STILL has many of her personal possessions.
I read his profile last night and it made me furious - but I didn't write him an e-mail tho I really wanted to. Lips Sealed

Ouch.  What an ugly situation.

Calling them out on their lies won't make them any less an a$$hole.

Are you wanting to defend your sister?

If you call them out online, you might get trashed yourself.  I hope you'll find a productive way to vent your anger so you don't carry it around and let it go.

You can't do anything about them being idiots.

I don't know if that was any advice.  I feel for you!

Thank you Sakina.

I know, it just might cause more trouble if I call him on it so venting like this is helping to diffuse my anger. He's always been a liar so this should not have come as a surprise. But it was shocking to see. I haven't told my sister, I didn't want to upset her- she is Bi-Polar and was in a terrible depression while going through the divorce. She is much happier since she dumped him.
So thanks for letting me vent - I knew what the right thing to do was, just needed to hear it from someone else.  Smiley

I agree with Sakina.  I can tell you feel protective of your sister but it's not your battle to fight.  Also keep in mind that the people who really matter *know* how much of a lying idiot the ex brother in law is and the other folks--who cares what they think?   Smiley

No, he isn't.

Not only that, but if he's dissing his ex-wife on the internet, that already shows the world the caliber human being he is. People with any amount of class know better than that. Don't sink to his level.

Just learn to ignore his pettiness. Better yet, stay away from scam social sites such as Classmates. Tongue

It was just infuriating but I've calmed down now and will ignore him.

Angel, did you have a problem with Classmates? I've been able to connect with some old friends (I graduated HS in 1973) and other than the lying in-law(s) issue have never had a problem.

Classmates.com has no shortage of consumer complaints from fraudulent charges to false advertising. But any social networking site that charges for its "services" has to be shady.

Hadn't heard of any complaints about Classmates.com. I've been checking and getting in contact with my former buddies for several years now. If you decide to become a Gold Member then there is a membership fee, but it is not required to be a Gold Member, you can still check out people you know or knew way back when.
To each his own... Wink
