New MajeStix Designs Posted at LongLocks!
Five new LongLocks MajeStix designs have been posted in the catalog. The Special Edition Designs page has been updated and two “last chance” special order designs have been posted in Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
And this is an especially good batch, if I do say so myself! It even includes a LILY!
Today’s tip: if you’ve recently used a non- or low-peroxide temporary color on your hair, don’t give yourself a hot oil treatment. The hot oil will remove a good deal of the color from your hair. On the other hand, if you’ve used a temporary color you hate, a few hot oil treatments are a great way to remove the color more quickly, so no, you don’t *have* to live with that fuchsia streak for very long if you really don’t want to ;)

Ecstasy as Style in Ballet
By BarbaraAnne
When I was 19, I told my mother, “Oh yes, I will be very well taken care of at Karen’s home in Brewster!” Of course, Karen, Debbie, Mamie, and I rushed to JFK so we could board a plane to London to see this: Gelsey Kirkland and Anthony Dowell dance Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Ballet.
– Of course –
During the Ballet Renaissance of the 1970s and ’80s, Baryshnikov and Makarova defected to American Ballet Theatre. Suzanne Farrell came back to Balanchine from Béjart and found Peter Martins at the New York City Ballet. Márcia Haydée made the Stuttgart Ballet a miracle. The Bolshoi and Kirov came to New York. It was an incredible time. The greatest Juliet was Gelsey Kirkland.
Consciousness is a form of sanity. When Gelsey wilfully, forcefully abandoned it, her movements came from a trance. She surrendered to ecstasy. Years of training kept her body in position when she lost self-awareness.
There are very few artists who can do this in any medium. A sense of style enables them to carry ecstacy with grace. For those precious moments on stage, Gelsey transported her audience and convinced everyone who saw her to abandon themselves.

All I Want for XMAS is a Diamond Studded iPad Case
And fortunately, I’m in luck. Mervis Diamond Importers just happen to have one I can direct my hubby to, and at just shy of 11.5 carats, it’s a mere $20,000. Just what I need to keep my $600 iPad safe!
So much more practical than a diamond encrusted chess board, doncha think?

Black Lace and Givenchy
By BarbaraAnne
The wedding gown Hubert de Givenchy designed for Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina (1954) stunned the fashion world. The strapless gown was the first to have black lace embellishments and embroidered black-and-white flowers on white organdy. Floral templates both stand alone and are linked by chains to form a heirarchy of design balance.
For me, the process is as interesting as the result. Here are pictures of Jean Paul Gaultier‘s ateliers preparing a similar black floral template. Using generations-old embroidery skills, Givenchy’s workshop must have used the same process to bring Audrey Hepburn’s visionary gown to the world.

On the Runway for Chanel
By BarbaraAnne
Instead of doing “Lalique, Lalique, Lalique,” as Susan predicted, I’m doing “Chanel, Chanel, Chanel.” Will it pass? Only time will tell.
On E-bay, I saw an haute couture creme silk tunic-jacket from the 2007 – 2008 Chanel Paris runway: the genius of Karl Lagerfeld. My jaw dropped. Look at how he decorates a silk tunic with diagonal flaps ending in a slight fringe, different kinds of pearl buttons, and lace hand-embroidered with starry and zig-zag patterns. The sleeves have three ideas in them alone. He makes it look so simple. This is a masterpiece of both design and craftsmanship. I cannot imagine how many couturières it took to make one. Very few were released to stores — at a retail price of $10,000.
