Mr. Rebates Gives You FREE Stuff! And I do LOVE the FREE Stuff!

You guyz are sooooooo gonna LOVE me for this one!

I’ve been singing this site’s glories to just about everyone I know for years and it just occurred to me that I never posted about it on Style & Angst.  Majorly remiss!  Well now, I shall have to make that right at once.

My all-time favorite site (barring LongLocks, of course… duh) is Mr. Rebates. Know why?  Because they give you FREE money!  No come back… really, I SWEAR!  If they don’t, may I never touch another Swarovski crystal again.  If that doesn’t convince you, nothing will!

All you do is sign up (did I mention it’s free?) and then click through the links on the Mr. Rebates site to get to your destination shopping website (which is practically any site in the world, you won’t believe how many there are) and then when you shop you automatically get whatever percentage rebate they have listed for that site.  It’s just like getting rebates in a brick and mortar store only a ton less work (though it does take about as long).  And they have a zillion of associated sites including (but certainly not limited to) Bloomies, Home Depot, Nordstrom, Bluefly, Sephora, Yves Saint Laurent, The Body Shop, Ulta, Lord & Taylor, overstock.com, Coldwater Creek, DKNY, Kohl’s, half.com, Gap, eBay, and a whole BUNCH of shoe stores (which, as we know, feed my own personal addiction).  In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find a site that isn’t available!  What’s even better is that when you click through to the site Mr. Rebates also opens up a window to show you any current discounts and promotional codes listed for the site, too.  Can you imagine?  Coupons AND a rebate?  Did I not tell you this site is phenomenal??  Don’t trust what Mr. Rebates displays to be all available coupons though, I do a Google search too to make sure they have all and the best ones listed.  Afterall, I am the Goddess of Free Stuff ;)

I’m telllin’ ya, when I redesigned my master bath I got enough in rebates from Home Depot, overstock.com and Home Decorators to pay someone *else* to do all the labor for the guest bath.  Not kidding!

Try it, I promise you’ll love it!  Just click the Mr. Rebates banner below and sign up, that’s all there is to it.  Well, that and actually remembering to go to it the first few times you shop after signing up, that is really the only hard part.  After that, I promise you’ll love it so much it will become second nature to go there every time you shop on the web!

Mr. Rebates

Oh, and a very useful hint!  If you forget to go to Mr. Rebates before you shop and you have a shopping cart sitting full somewhere, just go to Mr. Rebates in a new tab, click the link to the site you’re shopping on, go to your shopping cart in the new tab, and then close the original tab.  You’ll get the rebate!  Yes, I am da masta!

Redon in a Longlocks Bead

saredon Redon in a Longlocks Bead

By BarbaraAnne:

Ooooo, this one has square beads where the colors mesh into each other. I must have them! Look at the way Susan painted the stick to bring out colors in the bead. I didn’t even notice they were there! *orders* So goes our addiction to the pattern partners, stick and bead, which make up Susan’s art.

As my eyes slumber in Odilon Redon’s abstracts, undreamed-of images arise. After 1890, pastel and oils became his favorite medium. I look at this painting, “Compsition of Flowers,” and see it as a bead on a hair stick as I walk, fully purple, into the morning air.

Longlocks Recommendation: Celestine Nightgowns

By BarbaraAnne:

It’s all I wear. After feeling this cotton, you’ll never wear anything else. You can wash them in French Lilac Handmade Laundry Powder, let them dry overnight, and iron them with French linen ironing water. A Longlocks Spirit Health Tip: when you put one on after a scented bath, restful sleep acquires new meaning. Celestine nightgowns are made in Germany and sold at the finest stores all around the world. Designer Cordula Huber-Harth says, “The secret of design is that through it, the invisible becomes visible.”

Elizabeth Taylor: The Woman and Her Jewels

By BarbaraAnne:

First, she was a young girl with violet eyes, so slumbrous your mind melted into them. In 1943, she played Priscilla in Lassie Come Home, was unforgettable as Helen Burns in Jane Eyre, and gained stardom as Velvet Brown in National Velvet (1944).

But aside from her acting triumphs, 8 marriages to 7 men, and tireless fundraising for AIDS research, she was also one of the greatest jewelry collectors in the world. She did not choose her pieces for the useless, shallow reasons insignificant people buy expensive things. Instead, they reflected her character, intelligence, and strength.

Her most famous pieces revealed how much the men she loved, loved her. That she also had the outer poise and presence to wear them gave female beauty a definition few women in history have ever matched.

In her memory, we at Longlocks celebrate the greatness of Elizabeth Taylor by featuring the world’s most famous pearl, “La Peregrina“; the Taylor-Burton diamond, a D-flawless 69.2 pear-shaped masterpiece; the Vera Krupp diamond, from the Krupp family in Germany, who supplied the Nazis with ammunition; a ruby-and-diamond necklace from Cartier; and a green, rose, and white diamond ring.

Brava, Diva.

Yves Saint Laurent and Georges Braque

In the April 1988 issue of Vogue, Yves Saint Laurent was inspired by the stark cubist brush strokes of Georges Braque, as well as the artist’s preoccupation with birds. However, Braque drew birds in one freehand motion. Yves combined both ideas in an evening dress collar. The bird had a free-form outline; wings that conformed to Braque’s proportions; and embroidered, beaded pieces that resembled the artist’s brush strokes.

As a work of engineering, the bird drinking water with its beak immersed in fabric connects to its back wing, which winds around the Christy Turlington’s shoulder. It was a revolutionary work of haute couture. As a work of art, it remains unparalleled.

How She Rolls
Susan Maxwell Schmidt is the internationally-collected jewelry artist behind LongLocks HairSticks. Her designs have appeared in Demetrios Bridal's "For the Bride" magazine and "Upscale Magazine." The LongLocks HairSticks Boutique was Lucky Magazine's top pick for Best Hair Web Site in their May 2009 issue.

Though a native New Yorker, Ms. Schmidt currently resides in the fashion non capitol of the world–East Nottingham, PA–where the Amish are the fashion trendsetters and John Deere green appears in the color forecast every season.

Ms. Schmidt enjoys driving fast, annoying her husband, sleeping late and disturbing the neighbors. She also fancies herself a fashionista, though this is likely nothing more than a rather sad delusion on her part. It’s best just to play along.
