The Male Species: A Portrait of Perfection

I was strolling through some FireFox tabs I had kept open (I am a big abuser of this function, and keep close to a hundred tabs open at all times until I do whatever I initially had in mind with the info they contain) and came across a gallery of images of the recent Fashion Week walk for Costume National Menswear.  And there I found this…

What do High Fashion Models and Chihuahua’s Have in Common?

Apparently, they both wear ridiculously large things on their feet.

Armadillo Angst

Apparently a few models are abdicating the Alexander McQueen throne and are refusing to walk the catwalk in his treacherous armadillo shoes, and McQueen is declaring “Off with their heads!” in return.  I mean really, who can blame them?  Not only are they dangerous, they gotta weigh more than the models who are expected to wear ‘em.

Loser Lauren

UPDATE: You’ll find more great commentary on this subject at Jezebel, and Lauren has apparently owned up.  The much more disturbing DMCA issue still remains a question, however.

———————————-

Apparently Ralph Lauren is suffering some very well deserved flak over a ridiculously photoshopped model and his ensuing attempts to legally silence those critical of the work (though I’m still wondering why no one has yet to voice objection to Lauren’s apparent need to slim down a model who is, after all, already model slim).

ralphlauren Loser Lauren

Lauren is apparently losing his DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) fight, thankfully.  Myself being an artist whose designs, articles and original ideas are often stolen by those who are apparently so creatively challenged they are incapable of formulating  synapses of their very own, I have little respect for anyone who would file a DMCA simply because he doesn’t like well-deserved criticism, a method of fair use that, unlike copyright infringement, certainly IS well within the law.  Lauren’s DMCA doesn’t have any legal standing as far as I can see, and only serves to make him look even more ridiculous than the model with the “head bigger than her pelvis” already did.

I’m thinkin’ it might be time to clean out my closet and send my Lauren stuff to a vintage clothing boutique.  Eyup.

Do They Make the Clothes Look Better?

As I’m sure you know it’s New York Fashion WeekDonna Karan, of whom I am a big fan, had her DKNY Spring 2010 show Sunday, and she had some great designs, like this cute little number that I could never personally get my butt into:

dknyspring2010 Do They Make the Clothes Look Better?

On the other hand, Donna had the ugliest models walking the catwalk for her!  REALLY!  I mean, REALLY!  Don’t believe me?  Check out the show’s gallery at Women’s Wear Daily and see for yerself (wwd.com‘s unpaid links generally don’t stay active for long, so jump on this one).  Be sure to click the “Launch Slide Show” link below the gallery of thumbnails so you can see full-sized photos.  The deeper into the gallery you go, the scarier it gets.  Might wanna make sure you get the kids outta the room first, definitely might be disturbing to some viewers.

Great shoes, tho.

How She Rolls
Susan Maxwell Schmidt is the internationally-collected jewelry artist behind LongLocks HairSticks. Her designs have appeared in Demetrios Bridal's "For the Bride" magazine and "Upscale Magazine." The LongLocks HairSticks Boutique was Lucky Magazine's top pick for Best Hair Web Site in their May 2009 issue.

Though a native New Yorker, Ms. Schmidt currently resides in the fashion non capitol of the world–East Nottingham, PA–where the Amish are the fashion trendsetters and John Deere green appears in the color forecast every season.

Ms. Schmidt enjoys driving fast, annoying her husband, sleeping late and disturbing the neighbors. She also fancies herself a fashionista, though this is likely nothing more than a rather sad delusion on her part. It’s best just to play along.
