New York Spring 2010 Fashion Week: Best in Show
Beyond compare. Breathtakingly beautiful. Dream dresses. Fantasy gowns. The epitome of glamour. Worn by the likes of Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Penélope Cruz and Renee Zellweger.
Marchesa, who almost always competes with Dior for my favorite when it comes to Fashion Week, has run away with the coveted Style & Angst prize (a lovely block of pine wood tastefully inscribed with a black Sharpie) for Top Designer of the Year this time around. I’ll let the pics do the talking, they describe Georgina Chapman‘s incomparable talent much more effectively than I ever could… the true definition of “what dreams are made of.” Which is bad grammar by the way, it should be “that of which dreams are made.” Alas, there I go digressin’ again.
I couldn’t bring myself to pick only five, it proved just too painful a proposition… I did manage to narrow it down from my original sixteen tho:
And the Best of Show of Best of Show?
Oh, to have the opportunity to wear a Marchesa gown just once in my lifetime. Just once, that’s all I ask. What dre… errrr, that of which dreams are made!
Congrats on your win Marchesa! I’ll get your Style & Angst trophy in the mail ASAP. Be sure to watch for it!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Worst in Show
Marc Jacobs, whose shoes and bags I absolutely covet (and the bags in this collection are no exception), is scaring me. I’ve never really paid all that close attention to his clothes because nothing has ever really intrigued me, but I have never actually disliked them. Until now. And “dislike” is putting it extremely mildly.
Last year the Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 Collection included these elegant pieces:

The following is what Mr. Jacobs offered this year for Spring 2010 at New York Fashion Week. A collection that was referred to as “overtly beautiful” by Women’s Wear Daily, btw. Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about overtly offending anyone in the fashion world, so I’ll tell it you straight… it’s overtly horrendous. And this btw, is me being overtly nice. But fashion being as overtly subjective as it is, you decide… beautiful or horrendous?
Marc, Marc, Marc. I die for your shoes, I die for your bags. But this collection? I’d rather be dead.
You can see a gallery of the entire Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Collection at wwd.com. If you are overtly inclined to do so.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: The One to Watch… Closely
As Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear (or prêt-á-porter for those who insist) New York Fashion Week comes to an end I thought I’d share some opinions with you because, ya know… that’s what I do. And besides, this guy just blows me away.
Toni Maticevski. Never heard of him, right? Me either. I have a feeling that’s gonna change.
It takes a certain amount of talent to pull off edgy and keep it firmly planted in the world of elegantly feminine. A combination, by the way, that when done well always makes me go “Oooooooo.” Gautier can do it. Dolce & Gabbana can do it. Versace can do it. There are others, but it’s not a terribly long list. I’m thinkin’ we can add this Aussie to it, don’t you?

Check out the Women’s Wear Daily slideshow of Toni Maticevski’s entire collection.

Do They Make the Clothes Look Better?
As I’m sure you know it’s New York Fashion Week. Donna Karan, of whom I am a big fan, had her DKNY Spring 2010 show Sunday, and she had some great designs, like this cute little number that I could never personally get my butt into:
On the other hand, Donna had the ugliest models walking the catwalk for her! REALLY! I mean, REALLY! Don’t believe me? Check out the show’s gallery at Women’s Wear Daily and see for yerself (wwd.com‘s unpaid links generally don’t stay active for long, so jump on this one). Be sure to click the “Launch Slide Show” link below the gallery of thumbnails so you can see full-sized photos. The deeper into the gallery you go, the scarier it gets. Might wanna make sure you get the kids outta the room first, definitely might be disturbing to some viewers.
Great shoes, tho.
