Industrialized glass making began in the Czech Republic, formerly known as Czechoslovakia, in the early 15th century. Local production throughout the country was characterized by many small workshops that specialized in the blowing, engraving, cutting and the painting of glass and crystal. Bohemian glass was originally thought to be magical, as was Prague considered a magical city. Bohemian glass has been famous worldwide since the 18th century, although local production of glass actually started in the 14th century. Bohemian glass is still very popular today and is used extensively throughout the jewelry making industry.
It literally took almost 30 minutes of convincing to make me believe that these absolutely stunning Bohemian glass beads were not Venetian art glass... they are simply phenomenal. The end of each of these hair pins is adorned with a peach Bohemian glass puffed heart bead with genuine 22kt. gold foil captured within, nestled into a gold plated filigree bead cap. A peach bicone crystal, topped with a gold plated filigree bead cap, sits below. Gold plated heishi beads complete the design. The hair sticks are crafted of bone, carved into elegant twists and hand painted in satiny peach under layers of protective clear enamel. These one-of-a-kind LongLocks hair accessories measure 5 1/2" from end to end.
