Title: Secret Santa Card Exchange 2008
Post by bikerbraid on Nov 6th, 2008 at 10:22pm
Secret Santa Card Exchange 2008

For those who are interested, we will be organizing a Secret Santa Card exchange.  The purpose of the exchange is to send holiday card and a small gift to another person.  The gift must fit in the envelope with the card.  The recipient of the gift will not know who they will be getting their gift from until it arrives.

A few rules for the exchange:

All participants must have at least 25 posts at this board. (This is for everyone's protection, especially since real names and addresses will be shared).

The value of the gift should not exceed $10 US.

The gift does not have to be hair related, but we all know we love hair toys! Please do not send hair products such as shampoos or conditioners - these can be easily tainted and are heavy to ship.

Since we have people here from all over the world, we will try to keep people within reasonable shipping areas, but if you are willing to do an overseas shipping, please let us know.

To participate, please PM me by November 22nd with your name and address, favorite color(s), hair color, type and length.  Suggestions of small items that would love to receive from your Secret Santa can also be included.  If you have colors you detest, or have other information you would like to pass along, please include it in the PM.  Once I have all the names I will PM you with your person's information.  Your Secret Santa may not be the person you are sending your gift to.

I will update this post with the list of name of those participating and when they have received their gift.

Cards/Gifts should be sent by December 10th. Be sure to include your screen name with your gift.

Once you have received your Secret Santa card/gift, please post here what you got and from whom so we can all share in the fun.

Please keep in mind that you are participating in this exchange voluntarily.  We certainly hope everyone will keep up their end of the exchange.  If unable to send your gift, please PM me so I can try to arrange another exchange.

I've also had some difficulty doing replies to PM's.  I've reported the issue and am just waiting!

Today I had a most pleasant suprise-my SS gift had arrived!!!  On the envelope I see its from Curlygirl22!  I think, cool, I used to live in IL also!  Then I opened it up and saw a very beautiful card and inside were a lovely pair of silver and rhinestone dangly earrings.  Just my style!!!  Thanks, Curlygirl22, I really love my gift.  I have several holiday parties to go to and I'm going to wear my new earrings.

Thanks, again!!!!!

You're quite welcome, Enna!  I was a bit apprehensive about buying you a hair toy because you have such beautiful hair sticks, so I'm happy that you like it. :)

My SS card/gift came today!!!!  Enna - you are a girl of my own heart!  I love hand crafted gifts.  The card was darling and I can hardly wait to try out the snoods.  Beautiful crochet work!  Thank you, thank you!

My card went out in the mail today - sorry I've been slow - this was my first chance to get to the post office.  It is amazing how seldom I actually send anything thru the mail anymore.  I had no stamps in the house.  >:(

Yay! I got my Secret Santa gift today!  A wonderful card and 3 beautiful handmade knitted accessories, from Bikerbraid. :D

One is a wreath pin and the other two (a beaded cream one, and black one) I will be using as knit scrunchies.

Thank you so much, Bikerbraid.  We're starting a tradition.  You've been my Secret Santa for two years in a row now. :)

I'm glad they arrived finally!  FYI - the wreath is tatted, the scrunchies were crocheted.

I had my hubby do the drawings for who got who - so repeats from prior years were possible but not planned.  Hope you didn't mind.

After looking at my learn how to crochet dvd last night, I realized that the scrunchies were crochet stitches.  Although, I don't know what "tatted" is. :-?

And of course I didn't mind having you as my SS. :)

Tatting is typically done with very fine cord or thread and is a series of knots used to make fine lace.  A big difference between crochet and tatting is - if you find the end of a crocheted piece and pulled - it would unravel (same as with knitting); but tatting would not.  When you see decorative edging on hankies or blouses from long ago - they may very well have been tatted.  A shuttle is most commonly used to make the knots, but I use a slightly different method called needle tatting - it is more similar to crochet, but still ties individual knots. It is a "lost" craft.  Not many people still tat.  I guess I was just born in the wrong era!  ;)

Pretty interesting, thanks for the info.  Now I know who to turn to if I have any crocheting questions in the future...if of course, you don't mind. ;)

Sakina, thank you so much--I received my SS card and gift on Monday.   :)  From Miss S, I received a book bungee, which is a high tech bookmark (very cool!) and some bath powder called Bliss Bath, an unscented product to which I add my own drops of essential oil.  I'm looking forward to using both of those goodies.  Again, thanks so much, my dear!  *hugs*   8-)

Trisha, you're very welcome!!!  I'm sorry my gift arrived so much later than everyone else's-I hope you didn't feel forgotten!

I love the book bungee!  Best book marks ever!  If you want to check out Bliss Bath powder, go to http://www.naturesgift.com/aromatherapybath.htm .  I hope you like it as much as I do!  I didn't know what kind of scents you prefer...

Merry Christmas!!!
