Berry, Washington Repeat Academy Win in Sally CelebHeads(TM) Hair Survey

DENTON, Texas, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Halle Berry and Denzel Washington took top honors in hair, as well as acting in 2002.  In a survey conducted by Harris Interactive Inc., for Sally Beauty Company, the two repeated their Academy Award win by coming in first among respondents as the movie stars with the best hairstyle.

Michael Renzulli, CEO of Sally Beauty Company, announced the results of the Sally CelebHeads(TM) study at a breakfast for editors of beauty industry trade publications in Los Angeles.

This was the second win in a row for Berry's cropped locks as she took 36 percent of the vote.  Nicole Kidman once again came in second with Reese Witherspoon placing third.

Almost a quarter of respondents favored Washington, who ranked third in the 2001 survey, while Antonio Banderas and Freddie Prinze Jr. were second and third in this year's survey.

From the small screen, Jennifer Anniston continues to have a strong influence on hairstyles with 33 percent of respondents saying her hairstyle was the best.  Courtney Cox Arquette took second place and Debra Messing's long, curly hair was third.

Rob Lowe, who's leaving the West Wing, left a strong impression on TV viewers with his choppy, short style.  Twenty percent of those asked like his look.  Matthew Perry was a close second and Noah Wyle was number three.

Variety was the key for female music stars, as respondents picked Madonna's ever-changing looks as number one with 17 percent, and Beyonce Knowles, another quick-change artist, as number two.  Jessica Simpson's long, golden tresses came in third.

Justin Timberlake's solo career put his hairstyle front and center with those surveyed.  His hairstyle was best according to 18 percent, while Eminem was number two and Usher number three.

Wild and colorful Kelly Osbourne had the most outrageous style of all female celebrities, claimed the respondents, while Pink, 2001 co-winner, came in second.  Courtney Love was number three.

More than half of those surveyed (55 percent) thought Carrot Top had the most outrageous man's style, with Pauly Shore and Ben Stiller coming in second and third.

In making the announcement, Renzulli pointed that this is the ninth year Sally has commissioned a study of celebrity looks and hair trends in the country.  It not only lets fans pick their favorite star styles, but also gives stylists, buyers and fashion and beauty writers insight into changing hair trends.  More and more, American men and women are taking their style cues from their favorite stars.

Results of the Sally CelebHead(TM) survey were based on telephone interviews with 1,019 adults, selected using Random Digit Dial to reduce bias and include both listed and unlisted telephone numbers.  The interviews were done between Jan. 2 and Jan. 8, 2003.  Harris says the margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percent.
