Best Hemline for Long Fine Hair?
Jan 2nd, 2005 at 10:57pm

I was wondering, if one shape ends was better for fine hair or not.

Do you prefer:

a) blunt, straight-across ends
b) slight U-shaped ends
c) a deeper U-shape
d) V-shape ends
e) fairy tale ends, uncut, natural looking, somewhat wispy-looking
f) layers near the ends

Any feedback would be very appreciated.
I'm at a point where I think I need to trim.  I plan on doing it myself using Feye's Method.  Here's a link to that if anyone needs it.

Any thoughts you may have would really help!

TIA,
SF

I prefer the appearance of straight ends. That said, my own ends have taken on a wave that would prevent them from appearing to have any particular design unless I were to straighten them.

I really dislike the "fairy" ends look, which for me is indistinguishable from the "broken-off" ends look that I used to have.

Thanks very much for the link.  I don't have fine hair, so sorry I'm no help to you there.
I have been without direction for the shape of my hair while it is growing out, and your link has given me the clue.
Again, thanks, Strawberryfine Smiley
PS, for me it's the slight U-shape and eventually it may be also with longish layers.  My hair is so thick I may not be able to handle all one length.

I like the more natural look to fairy tale ends.  However, as I posted elsewhere, I do plan to trim the ends for a while to eliminate damage, then let them "do their thing" again.

Hi SF!   I prefer to blunt trim my own fine hair only because it gives me more "horizantal volume"  as it gets
longer.  I like the ends to look as thick as possible.  If
I had thicker hair, I wouldn't mind the more tapered end
look.  MY ends get thin as it is, if I don't keep them blunt.

U shape or fairy ends is my opinion  Smiley

both look lovely and not to severe, though you have to be careful with fairytale ends...if you dont look after them they just look like damage.

Thanks everyone for all the great responses!

This gives me lots to think about.  Right now, I still have growing out bangs and layers, but I wanted to start thinking about what shape I wanted to do as my hair gets longer.

Thanks again to everyone!

Hello,

I've never heard the term "fairy tale" ends before, but that's definitely what I have on my waist-length fine hair.  Someone mentioned that if you don't care for them, they look damaged...what is meant by caring for fairy tale ends?  I'd like to know what to do to keep mine in good shape!

I wash and condition every other day. I sleep with a braided bun on the top of my head...anything else I need to do?

Thanks!~

Hi Annelise!

Caring for fairy tale ends would include dusting split ends, conditioning, and oiling.  Of course it also means not abusing the ends with elastics and clips that are not hair friendly.  It sounds like you are already caring for your ends.  Great job!

caring would be to dust as often as you can. i had them too but even though they were neither dry nor damaged i found the hair looking dead none the less and very thinned out. they just hang in a certain way that looks brittle and bounceless.
now i still have them on my last big layer which is still nearly 4" shorter than my trimmed ends and the difference in appearance is enormous. if the gap wouldn't have been so big i would have chopped it off months ago.

I try to keep mine blunt cut straight across, cause I think it looks thicker.  Wink
