New Here with a Question
Jun 2nd, 2006 at 4:58pm

Hi, everyone! I just registered and have a burning question.

I have fine hair that's currently in an almost-shoulder length bob (I'm growing, hopefully waist-length, or at the very least, BSL). I color it maybe every six weeks, concentrating mainly on the roots. I let it air dry partially and blow dry it the rest of the way. I condition with V05 Balsalm and Protein and then wash with a moisturizing shampoo and re-condition with a coneless conditioner, usually Nexxus KeraPhix or Goth Rosary.

My problem is I have these little pieces that stick up every where, mainly on the sides. I know my dying it and/or blow drying may be the problem. How can I prevent this from happening (throw out the hair dryer) and can I fix this - any masks, oils, products recommended? I'm at my wits' end and really don't want to cut off all my hair and start again (again).

Welcome!

You've almost answered your own question - yes, hairdryers can be hard on your hair.  Eliminating that from your routine could help minimize the the little flyaways.

However, you will always have new hair growing in and it will be shorter and prone to sticking up whereevver you don't want them.  Grin I have found that using a very slight amount of jojoba oil on my hand and smoothing down the little hairs will help.  If I want a very neat, sophisticated look, I will use aloe vera gel to hold those pesky hairs in their place.

Hope this helps!

You have indeed answered your own question. Blow frying and colouring (especially together) can destroy hair and make it prone to breaking off.

But BB is right about new growth tending to stick out everywhere too.

I would suggest taking your own advice and at least tossing out the dryer. Maybe colouring with henna instead of traditional dyes. A treatment of some kind, be it a deep conditioner, hair masque, hot oil or otherwise once a week would be recommended.

BTW, I've always wondered about the Goth Rosary hair care. Are the products any good? I know that the lady who makes them is incredibly sweet & talented.  Smiley

Best of luck and happy growing (resist the urge to cut it all off!).

Thank you both - it is as I suspected!

I just started using Goth Rosary shampoo and conditioners and so far am in love with them. I got the Mayhem-scented ones, and they smell heavenly and make my hair very soft. I recommend giving them a try at the very least!
