conditioning trials
Jul 8th, 2007 at 10:27pm

Ok, sorry to start a thread but I put this up on my journal and got no real responses.

Ok, here it is.  I am on meds that make my hair VERY dry.  I have been off work on sick leave so I have been able to deal by doing some seriously deep conditions on an almost daily basis.  But I am going back to work in a week and cannot look shabby.

I figure my solution is to be able to deep condition my ponytail and wear it in a snood...but, doggone it, i cannot find where to get snoods.  HELP.  Oh, BTW, I run at lunch so I have my shower after that which is why I need something like a snood to hide what I am doing until I hit the showers at lunch.

Also, I have completely changed my hair protocol since I came here...I should update that on my journal...but to cut a long story short, I have replace everything (shampoo, deep conditioning, leave in conditioner, detangle spray) with recipes from this site (or shampoo suggestions) and my hair looks so much better and it is so much cheaper...but I have not managed to replace my rinse conditioner from in the shower...does anyone have a good recipe for that?

Snood = priority.

Sorry to start a short thread on this...but need input soon.

I'm bored, so I figured I'd help you out by researching snoods and found this interesting tidbit from hairboutique.com... Quote:
As Lady MacSnood explains on her site  "ladies and girls with shorter hair will find a snood gives the illusion of longer hair.  The natural spherical shape adds fullness and body".

Also, "in some eras the back of the snood would be stuffed with artificial hair or other material, giving the illusion of even fuller hair."

Anyone wanting to help give their hair an instant growth spurt should consider wearing a snood.

Some links to snood selling companies: *disclaimer: I own no snoods, so make no guarantees about any of these companies*

http://www.snoods.com <The famous Lady Mcsnood that I know some of our members swear by.

If none of these have anything you want, google searching for snoods is a good way to find more... These are just some off the first page of results Cheesy

Funny that you posted that Kiraela because I was going to suggest Lady MacSnood's site also, but it was late last night and I was tired.  I have one of her snoods and a pair of hiarsticks that came with it.  Don't wear the hairsticks, not thrilled with them.  Plus I'm partial to Susan's hairsticks!  After looking at the snood and seeing the crochet stitching,I can make them myself.   Given the time,I'll make one for myself to see how it comes out and see the "wear and tear" on it!

Sorry I missed this in your journal and on your thread!  I totally endorse Lady McSnood!  I have 4 of them and LOVE them, and she is soooo helpful if you have questions.

As for the dryness, I really love Ouidad's Deep Conditioner.  It works sooo well for me.  Also, you will find in the Curly Girl Handbook (when it arrives) a recipe for mixing your conditioner with oil and applying that.  I used that before I found Ouidad's Deep Conditioner.  It was pretty good, I think I liked it less 'cause the conditioner I was using to mix with the oil had -cones in it.  If the meds are drying out your hair, I think it would be best to avoid -cones since it will make it worse in the long run.

Also, if you're going to wear conditioner under your snood, you might want to line the snood with a clear shower cap so your snood doesn't wind up absorbing your conditioner.  Another thought-use a leave in like Ouidad's Botanical Boost (I'd suggest Devachan's B'leave In, but , you know) you can check it out here: http://www.ouidad.com/shop_quickshop.asp

Good Luck!!

Ok, well thanx to a whole bunch of help from the people on this site, I have got my snood issue under control.  Thank you all.

As I have told Sakina, I have had no luck with the Devacurl.  One place I checked wanted to bill me $44.50 for shipping (good God, were they buying it a seat on a plane!!) and another didn't ship to Canada.  I will google on tonight.

I have ordered the Curly Girl Handbook.  It theoretically will be here on Monday...but my mail is so slow, I usually get my bills after they are due.  Thank God one can call in to get the amounts on bills these days.  I am really excited about this book.

But...in the meantime...still looking for a homemade conditioner for a simple conditioning after shampooing rather than store bought.  Anybody?
