<blushes> thanks all!  It's an easy braid to do.  It's a two-strand type of braid, so if you have a hard time doing a french you may be able to do this one!

Wow, I never noticed how much color deposit has washed out of my hair since that picture was taken!  Woo hoo!  ;D ;D ;D

I tried this one today.  Still have to practice practice practice.  The first try, I ended up with armadillo-head, like when I did the French Braid in Sakina's thread.  Then I figured out what was wrong - I was starting too high on my head.  When I moved the starting point back, it was much better.

OMG - I love everything.

And I'm jealous, not only of your hair but now I covet your bicycle too *Oh Oh* ;~) ...g

The bike is a Rans Rocket recumbent.  I traded that one in for a Rans Vrex that I now ride.  The only difference between them is the Rocket had 2 20" tires, the Vrex has the 20" front tire and the back is a standard 26" tire.  The larger back tire makes the gearing more typical and reliable.  The ride is also a bit smoother.  I LOVE my bike.  The only time I don't hurt is when I am on my bike.  If any of you love to bike, but hate the sore but, sore neck, sore hands/wrists, sore lower back, then you MUST try a recumbent.  ALL that goes away.

I agree with gabi...very cool hair and fun bike.
I had just automaticly assumed that you rode upright. I think you're right. Biking sitting back makes much more sense.

LOL!  Yes, when I took on the Bikerbraid moniker, I knew there was the potiential for confusion, but it was just the best name I could come up with.  :-/  Actually the guys on the choppers usually give us a thumbs up and acknowledging nod when they pass us - because we are in a similar, comfy position.  Just consider my bike the human powered version of the chopper.

Panpeus; Yes, the legs still get a workout - something has to power the weight!  The primary differences are in starting, stopping, and going up hill.  In all three cases, you have to make sure you use your lower gears, or else you fall over at slow speeds (keep in mind you can't stand up on these bikes).  The other difference is the grin  ;D on your face while riding and the tendancy to want to go FAST!

My style of recumbent (short wheel-base), is designed to be FASTER than a standard upright bike.  When recumbents were initially designed long, long ago, they were banned from bike races because of the "unfair advantage".  The reclined position gives you better areodynamics and wind resistance.  I typically bike at about 15 mph.  I'm not the fastest person in the world by any shot, but I can hold my own.  On a downhill, I will typically pass a standard bike that I was keeping up with on the flats.  Uphill I am slower, but that is due to my own poor conditioning and arthritis in my joints.

As for the roller bladers - I have come across a number of them that clip along at close to 18 -19 mph on a paved trail.  They are amazing.  

Yep, that's my boyfriend.  A lady in her car leaned over to him and said "You're going 20mph!  How do you do it?"  He just chuckles while I'm struggling to keep up.

I don't mind the view from the back, though! >.>

I've had people do that to me when I'm cruising at 25 mph or higher.  One person asked where the motor was!

I am soooo sorry to burst that bubble of what all of you thought I was.  My preferences are human powered over motors (bikes vs motorcycles/cars; canoe/sailboats vs motorboats; Xcountry skiing/snowshoeing vs snowmobiles; hiking vs ATVs).  

Here I thought I was presenting a nice sweet, motherly image and instead all of you were seeing me as a beer swigging, mud raslin', motorcycle momma.  :::shakes head:::

The braid in my picture is a two strand twist.  The trick is to remember to twist the strands the opposite direction that you are twisting the two strands together.

Once the hair is separated into 2 sections, I find it easiest to twist the strand in my right hand.  Let's say I twist it from right to left or counter-clockwise.  Once I have the hair twisted nice, I take the strand from my left hand and pass it over the right hand strand that I have already twisted (this would be a clockwise twist).   Now switch hands and repeat!  It is very important to make the two sections twist together tightly.  It will untwist slightly after you tie it off, so you want to make sure it starts out tight.

Instructions for a 3 strand twist are described in the Hair Braiding Basics

That's a great pic, BB.  Sure looks like you're having fun!  I love the braid, and the turtle and hummingbird.  I'm glad you've found a way to remain active-in spite of chronic pain and back issues.  You inspire me!   ;D

Recumbents aren't too common around here- I've seen just a couple (though I saw two just two weeks ago). That looks very comfy way to bike.

I envy your tan terribly, BB!  ;D There's no way in the world I could get that beautiful coppery tone on my skin!

The best way to do this braid (and all braids, from my personal experience) is to have day-old hair.  If it is too clean it will fall right out.

I also have a medium hair texture... 1c/2aMii.

How about damping it with water and conditioner Pan?

Just out of curiosity how long did your have to be before you could do that braid?

Mine's a bit past the shoulders.  If its long enough to hold a three-strand, I would say it's long enough to do this!

If not, you could always do two smaller ones on each side.  I wear it like that when I work out!
