I finally did a 4 strand braid!
Aug 28th, 2003 at 10:38am

This past weekend it was hot and humid.  We were painting and shingling our new shed and I was trying to keep my hair out of my face (and the paint).  I did the french ropes on each side to hold all the little shorter hairs around my face, then joined them at the back with a 4 strand braid.  This held well enough that after all the painting, etc, we had to run an errand and I left it all in.  The cashier complimented my hair and asked who did the braiding.  When I told her I had done it myself, she looked at my hubby and son as though she did not believe me.  They both shrugged their shoulders and admitted there was no way they did it for me!  (Both are braid and hair challenged).  The cashier then went on to say she just loves to see women my age (50's) with long hair and wishes she had the patience to grow hers out.  I tried to give her encouragement to grow it out.

Hubby asked me the next day if I could do the same style again, as he liked how it looked.  I guess I have found a new hairstyle for my waist length hair! Cheesy

Great!  Grin

Where did you get the instructions from, by the way? Anyway you could tell me how you got it done?  Grin

I'm not sure where the instructions came from.  I sort of invented part of it.  I like to do the french ropes to gather my hair, and you end up with 4 strands at the back of the head (2 from each rope on each side of the head).  Trying to split the 4 strands into 3 for a standard braid never worked well, so I figured I needed to do a 4 strand braid.  I would take the outer most strand from the right side and put it under the next strand, then over, then under.  I would then again take the outer most strand from the right side and put it under, over, under.  Continue until your arms fall off or you run out of hair.   Grin

I just washed my hair last night, so I will try to duplicate the style tomorrow (fresh clean hair does cooperate well).  Hopefully I can get pictures in process as well.

Did your 4-strand braid twist?  I should have done a 4-strand braid before I trimmed that 7" off my hair to see how many twists I could get in it.

Yes, the braid did twist.  I don't remember how many twists I had in it.  I will have to wait a bit longer to re-attempt the style.  I was at a Ren Fest this weekend and had a 5 strand crown braid done.! I will probably take it out in a day or two, then try the 4 strand again (maybe 5 strand???)
