a question about ends
Mar 28th, 2004 at 3:55pm

although my hair is quite fine i dont really have a problem with thickness for the majority of my hair (hip-length). however, the last few inches are very thin (if i place my hand behind the ends, you can see it through the hair). i dont have a lot of split ends and all of my hair is shiney and healthy but i'm worried about the possibility of the thinness speading up my hair. i'm trying to get rid of it with small trims but i dont want to sacrifice a lot of hair so its a sloooooooooow process.
does anyone else have this problem? will it travel up my length??
thankyou for any feedback...its much appreciated   Embarrassed  Smiley

Hip length is already an amazing accomplishment.  Congratulations.  Is the thinness fairly recent or have you always had thinning at the ends?  Have you noticed more fallout on a daily basis?

thankyou  Smiley

my hair fallout has actually become less as my hair grows and i keep it up more. the ends have just thinned gradually over the 5/6 years i have been growing it. im thinking its probably because i havnt always looked after my hair as well as i could havebut my main concern is it speading up my hair.

Thin ends are usually an indication of either breakage or terminal length.

It sounds like you are already taking better care of your hair now, so I'd just keep an eye on the thinner ends to see if things improve.  If you don't like the look of the thin ends, you could trim the ends a bit to even things out a bit, but I don't think that would have to be done.

If you have hit your terminal length (the maximum length your hair will reach), and you take care of your hair, it should "thicken" with time as the shorter lengths also reach the terminal length.

Be sure to check for split ends and trim those so they don't cause more damage.

Hope this helps a bit.

Dusting is a term used when just the very ends (split ends) are trimmed from the hair.  So little hair is cut off that there is just a "dust" of hair on the floor (table) when done.

A common way of doing this is to take sections of hair and gently twist the hair so that just the ends are sticking out.  Then, under a bright light and with a sharp scissors, trim any split ends found.
