David Beckham Makes News - With Haircut

LONDON (AP) - David Beckham seized the front pages of all of Britain's popular tabloids Tuesday - with a new haircut. Beckham, who has described allegations by two women that he was their lover as ``ludicrous'' and ``absurd,'' appeared Monday night with a freshly shorn scalp at a private party at Royal Albert Hall.

His hairstyles exert a peculiar fascination in Britain, and each style change is attentively covered. Recently he had worn his hair long, but other variations have included a Mohawk, spikes and cornrows.

Beckham appeared at the party with his wife, Victoria, the former ``Posh'' Spice Girl. Photos showed the 28-year-old Real Madrid and England soccer star planting a kiss on his wife's forehead, Victoria looking adoringly at her husband, and the couple striking a fashionable pose.

The Daily Mail devoted an inside page to five pictures of the couple posing under the headline: ``So is Posh trying too hard?''

Since the stories of Beckham's alleged affairs began appearing two weeks ago, the couple have appeared smiling and united on the ski slopes, shopping in Madrid, at home in suburban England and at dinner.

Beckham's former personal assistant Rebecca Loos has provided details of her alleged romance with the soccer star on British television.
