Great Site!
Jun 6th, 2004 at 8:11pm

I am a 40 something female who has been trying to
grow my hair long for years!  I've been chemically enhancing my hair since 1977.  First perms 1977-2000.
And Now red and blond highlights.  I think all this chemical enhancement is one reason my hair has never
been longer than BSL . I've decided to stop all chemical
treatments and go natural.  My hair is very very VERY
fine and thin.  No bald spots though.  That's why I was
always perming and coloring.  I would like healthy long
hair.    I now wash and conditions every other day
and rinse my hair and put a leave in when I dont wash.
My hair is now shoulder length. Natural brown, highlighted blonde(and red) and wavy and fine.  Also
very frizzy and fly-away.  I've quit all heat sytling except
on occasion.  I had my hair cut to a chin length bob with
a fringe. Yes It looked thicker and healthier but  I got
tired of short hair.  WHen my hair was BSL I could do
more with it, I even learned to french braid.   I've had
my hair in a pixie cut for 10 years (80's) and shoulder
length.  I'd like to grow it long now, if I can.

Babyfine;
If you really want to grow your hair long, you CAN DO IT!  I've "been there, done that, had the bad hair to prove it".  Pixies, perms, heated appliances, highlighting, permanent coloring.  Now I concentrate on keeping it healthy and I don't need all the hair cuts, chemicals and appliances.

Good luck on your growing!

My hair is not damaged now because I've been trying
to take exta-special care of it but I know that my highlighted ends are going to be more prone to damage
as they grow.  Should I cut it off and start again or
just keep growing what I have and keep it trimmed up.
?  I DONT want to cut it off  All but about 1/2 is highlighted and its taken me a long time to get my hair
to my shoulders.

I have color treated ends (from about 5 years ago).  I don't think you HAVE to cut the treated hair, just be extra careful with it so that it does not become more damaged.

Keep in mind the treated hair will be more prone to breaking, splitting and tangles.  So be extra gentle, and you should not have to trim it off for a very long time.

I recently just trimmed off 1/2 inch because it seemed
the bleached, highlighted ends were looking real frizzy.
I just wish all my treated hair was gone, buts that's
going to take a long time and a lot of patience.    I just
want  healthy hair.  I'm thinking of trying Pantene's
new overnite treatment.  Maybe its the humidity, too.
