Just saying HI!

hello there.

I came across this site because I've finaly decided I want to grow out my hair.  I've been lurking for a while, reading and getting info.

I had around 4 inches cut off around a month ago and now it's a little past my shoulders and layered.  I originaly wanted maybe an inch cut but the hairdresser suggested 4 inches to get rid of all the damage so I did that and now have healthy hair to start with!  I have been colouring my hair for years...last winter I put Sun-In to lighten my hair (bad idea).  The problem with that is the change is so gradual you don't even realise how light your hair is until the roots grow in!  Plus I was on vacation a few weeks ago in florida and the sun bleached my hair even more....that's when I decided to get a box of dark brown dye in hopes of getting my natural colour back (or something close to it).  I just want my natural colour back so I can quit with the dying once and for all.

now about my hair...   I was born with curls but my parents cut it short when I was around 3 and it went dead straight  Sad .  When I was around 10 my hair became wavy and a few years later it started to get more and more frizzy.  I am now almost 19 and my hair has lost some of the frizz but not all, and it has a slight wave to it when not dried straight.  I would like to let my hair grow to my lower back and maybe have it permed.  I know curls will suit my face, I've had it and it looked great but at the same time I don't want to fry my hair...we'll see.

about me: I am a college student and live in BC canada.  Most of my time is spent riding horses....that is my passion. my 'other' interests include anything outdoorsy, art, poetry, movies, etc.  Smiley

Welcome!  Glad you found us.

Horseback riding reminds me of my summer as a camp counselor at a horse ranch.  We'd get up at 5 to bring the horses in from the pasture (we had to swim them across a creek that was flooded).  Then we rode for a couple hours in the morning, had lunch, went swimming, then rode again in the afternoon.  Some evenings we even got to ride!  I'd never been on a horse before, then spent the entire summer on horseback.  I've only had a few occassions to ride since.  It was a wonderful summer.

If you like waves/curls, you might try rag curls.  Using strips of fabric, wrap sections of hair around the cloth, then tie the cloth into a knot.  Sleep on the rags over night and take them out in the morning.  Viola'!  Curls!
