ETA: oh.dear.lord.......this is a quote from a link on that page...
"Most women keep their hair super long as a cop out to styling- all that they have to do is plunk in a ponytail or bun and they can then forget about their hair for the day. Unfortunately, there are very few women with hair in good enough condition and a face that warrants this kind of severe length"

She's right about one thing, and one thing only - the teased bangs have got to go. The woman should grow out her bangs, and grow her hair to classic length.

Quote:
Hair that long usually looks dry, unhealthy and typically is a variety of colors from graying at the roots to a faded version of their original color by their waist.

No, she should cut it short, bleach and perm it so it can be short and "dry, unhealthy, and...a variety of colors."

What a control freak b*. This woman needs to get a life of her own, instead of trying to run the life of a complete stranger.

Why are people always trying to make over other
people?  Has anyone ever seen those  riduclous
make-over talk shows where a person (man or woman)
is rather reluctantly being dragged in by a friend or
relative to get their super-long locks cut off and updated?  And then donated to Locks of Love?
Then the host always says "Oh you look so much
younger,better,ect. with your new style.

I hate it when people think I just don't cut my hair because I sm lazy or sloppy.  I love long hair and it's awful to sterotype me because I have it.  I think the worst part for me was when the woman said: " She definitely needs something more age appropriate ".  But it's hard not to let this hurt our feelings isn't it?

If her sister likes her hair that should be all that matters. The locks of love advertisment jumped out at me too.

What's wrong with that? Why should I have to be obsessing about how each hair is sitting on my head every second of the day? I have more pressing things to worry about, thanks.

And by the way, I think the girl in that Locks of Love ad has very lovely hair.

It really makes me mad when people always try to tell someone else how they should dress,or wear their hair. You should wear your hair however you like it. Those fashion people are always trying to make people cut off their hair to follow the trend, well forget the trend how about being diffrent? why would you want to look like everybody else, I say be diffrent, stand out in the croud. be beautiful and unique.  I remember when I had midback hair and my aunt suggested to my mother that my hair was too long and she should cut it short. It made me so mad. My great aunt she keeps her hair about 2 inches long and wears a rat tail and she had the nerve to say something about my hair. I am so mad. Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

It's certainly in our best interests to take control of our image and be the unique individuals that we are, but it's hardly in her best interest. No one would pay her to proclaim herself a fashion "guru" if everybody was off happily doing their own thing.

Maybe we should start a thread and discuss this on her forum. Grin

A "cop out to styling??" Long hair requires much more TLC and presents many more styling opportunities than short hair.

But why am I telling you this? You already know. Smiley Never mind everyone, we'll cling to each other and our unfashionable, dry, multi-colored tangles while we flee from the "calendar of life" (who knows what THAT'S supposed to be).

Cheers to all Rapunzels the world over!

The website has a 'contact us' link in the top menu. I suggest that everyone who is MAD use the link to tell the author what they think of the article. The answer to the question should have been specific to the situation that was presented. Instead the author over generalized and railed against long hair. Perhaps the author of the article can learn something from our feedback.

The following is going to sound extremely "EE-vill"

I say we just let the rest of the world bask in their short hair obsession while the longhair minority can stand out, feeling beautiful and different.

Although I do encourage my friends to have healthy hair care habits (e.g. nixing the irons and blow-fryers, combing and brushing properly, etc), I don't feel any need to encourage others to grow their hair to an extreme length. (I'm happy to have the longest hair of my social circle and secretly don't want anyone else to get the same idea. Well, folks, there's my confession...) I do make it a point to pound healthy hair care habits into my friends' chemically-processed skulls, since short hair also benefits greatly from gentle treatment.

Peace, Love, Empathy.

Actually, I always tell everybody that they should grow their hair long like me. It's kind of a standing joke, cause they know how I feel and can see how well I've done. I wouldn't give advice to a stranger, but none of my friends take their looks all that seriously. We're just ordinary people.

I agree with one part of this article:

"People need to present themselves in a way that makes them feel self-confident, fantastic, and great about themselves, not solely because they think the opposite sex loves it. Your sister needs to love how she looks, or put her best effort out to try to make the most of what she’s got! "

Exactly!  And if that means keeping her hair long, then let her keep her hair long!!  I had short hair a while back, and have spent the last two or three years growing it longer.  I feel so much more confident with longer hair, because I know that it suits me better than short hair, and I love my hair like this.

Me too! Two of my friends got their hair chemically straightened and they tried to hide it from me, because they knew I would "frown" upon that, LOL! I don't not encourage them to grow their hair long because I want to be the only one who has long hair, though. One of my friends is trying to grow out but keeps blowdrying and getting splits so she has to keep trimming, and the others suit shorter hair.
