Hi, what a great place!  I found this site as a track back from my website www.Hairlooms.net.

My name is Katie Mello, and I am a "hair Artist"  or more correctly I am a jeweler who makes hairwork.   For those who may  not know hairwork is art or jewelry made from human hair.   It was very popular during the Victorian Era (mid to late 1800's)  Women would weave there long beautiful hair into watch chains, bracelets, and elaborate flowers.   Some people have heard of this as mourning jewelry, since it was sometimes made with the hair of a loved one who had died.  Though it was often made and given as a token of love.

I have been experimenting with making bracelets and things with hair, though I have mostly had to buy horse hair, since most things have to be made with a minimum of 10 inch long hair.  Though I have made some with human hair which is so much nicer to work with and makes such a nice finished piece.

I currently sell pieces on my website for very short hair, and pet hair.  But I want to expand and offer products for people with longer hair.  I am also interested in writing a book so that women who want to weave their own hair can have clear directions on how to do it.

I know quite a bit about hairwork and I would be happy to answer anyones questions about it.  I think it is a really wonderful art that is almost forgotten.

I am just getting started with my business and I value a place like this to get feedback from men and women who understand the beauty of hair.

I have very short unruly hair and I have always envied long beautiful hair.

Thanks, Katie

Welcome Katie!  I've visited your site and have been amazed by your hairwork.  What patience you must have.

I look forward to hearing more about your artistry!
